Part 5 of Royal Enfield Himalayan - Seattle, WA to Alaska has arrived!
Follow along riding the Himalayan from Fort St John , BC, Canada into the Yukon for a stay on Kluane Lake near Destruction Bay. This episode covers 3 days of riding with camps at Toad River, Teslin and Kluane Lake. Along the way we'll encounter a lynx (blurry), numerous black and grizzly bear, bison, elk, porcupine, sheep. We'll run into some friendly tourists on back roads, camp with some fellow bikers, and finally do some off-road/gravel exploring. You can bet the drones are turned loose to capture some fantastic views.
SERIES OVERVIEW
Follow along as I purchase a Royal Enfield Himalayan in Seattle, Washington and ride it for the first time EVER all the way back to Alaska. I even do some customizing to the bike along the way! (Part 2-3)
This is the fifth part of a series of videos covering my purchase of the 2018 Royal Enfield Himalayan Himalayan, customizing the bike and exhaust with Cerakote Ceramic after only 300 miles, doing my first service, then continuing on through Banf National Park, Jasper National Park, the Canada Yukon and Alaska where I stopped at a magnificent glacier before arriving home.
The Royal Enfield Himalayan is a 411cc adventure bike built in Indian and made available in the U.S. for the first time in 2018. Very few motorcyclists in the U.S. have had the experience of riding one let alone taking it for a near 3000-mile ride right from the showroom floor.
IN THIS MOTORCYCLE SERIES
○ At only 411cc's, how does it handle on American highways?
○ What's involved with the first service at 300 miles?
○ Can it hold up on a long-distance adventure?
○ Is it comfortable, capable, and does it handle well?
○ How does the bike look after a ceramic coating of the exhaust, skid plate and levers?
○ And what sort of scenery, wildlife and adventures do I experience on my 2,800-mile ride back to Alaska?

Thanks for taking us on this ride. I know how much work and effort it required to bring us along. It was 45 years ago that I traveled these roads. Pretty much everything was gravel in those days.
Nice to hear from you. Hope winter is treating you well.
So how close are you to buying a new bike? I see some other viewers have commented to you trying to steer you back into riding. Good for them! 😀

Hi Justin... Im Richard from the UK .. I want to say .. what an amazing set of videos very professional and inspirational .. your so lucky to have such a wilderness on your door step to have an adventure .. ride safe and I think i speak for everyone , we all are looking forward to more of the same
Hi Richard, thanks for the sincere feedback and compliments. I do have plans for summer rides and more, new, wilderness excursions. Stay tuned! 🙂
@@KARMAkazeMoto Look forward to it... MY Kawasaki GTR1400 (concourse14 ) is tucked away until spring. when Europe awaits but this damp cold UK weather and Salt treated road dont go down very well with aluminium parts on the bike .😃
And here we use small gravel on top of ice. If you have a death wish, perfect riding conditions. Otherwise, best to stay indoors and tinker. 😉
@@KARMAkazeMoto man, when I hear the weather conditions of your countries, I think the only thing i love about my country (India) is the weather, so suitable for riding except in summer.
@@shashankmallamraju4271 we have our couple months of glorious weather, but the riding season is simply too short. You might like snowmobiling though! There are some benefits to the snow. You can travel anywhere, no roads required. Its especially nice when the snow is cold and dry, no wet stuff.
Still, I do envy your long riding season.
I couldn't believe that TTT Motorcycles (Enfield dealer in London) hadn't heard of this epic rolling Himalayan homage! They have now. Here we only see lynx, bear, elk and porcupines in documentaries! Fab!
Nick, thanks for the praise and sharing my work! I have to say, making these vids and connecting with people all over is just as fun as the trip itself. Cheers!
Perfect Ad for RE Himalayan
Your videos make my mind. I'll buy that moto here in Brazil. Amazing production and skills! Congratulations!
Oh wow, I hope you get a ton of enjoyment out of it. Thanks for watching and commenting! Cheers!
Please note, I live in Australia and have the same Himalayan bike as you do.
Just finished installing a USB outlet and a pair of AUX driving lights via a toggle switch that is wired into the high beam circuit which work great, I had to use a relay though!
On average I'm getting 3.34 litres per 100 kilometres ( sorry everything here in Australia is in kilometres and litres ) however, on the road I ride between 80 -90 klms per hour ( which seems to be to sweet spot for the engine ) on the freeways I sit on 100 to 105 klms per hour.
Anyway, great videos and safe riding ( and safe riding to all riders )
Excellent!
If my math is correct, you're talking 70 miles per gallon. Very nice!
Aux lights are probably in my future as well, and I'll remember the relay advice. Good to isolate from the switch.
If you post and vids, feel free to put them in a comment here. No worries! Cheers!
@@KARMAkazeMoto
Yes, just slightly under 70 miles per/ gallon
When riding slower during part of my trip I estimated 60mpg, and that was with all the extra weight and wind drag, so I fully believe 70mpg is a reasonably obtainable fuel consumption. Thanks for sharing all this!
My wife and I have been really looking forward to this 5th video. Outstanding job!!!!!!!!! We have a Royal Enfield Himalayan as well, and in researching the qualities of the bike came across your Vlog. You are doing a fantastic job! My wife and I live in the North Georgia Mountains and bought it for a number of reasons: (1) for getting to back-country fly-fishing trout stream trail heads way off the beaten path. It's perfect for that. (2) It's light enough for us to carry it on a Versa Hauler rack on the back of our car on a long camping trip. (3) We do a lot of Surf Fishing up and down the southeastern coast from North Carolina, SC, Georgia, the Florida keys and Panhandle, and it's perfect for getting to those hard to reach back-country locations to search for prime spots holding the best tasting surf fish like Pompano. How is the Cerakote holding up? That was a great idea! What was your final fix for the synthetic oil issue, as I would like to go synthetic as well? Also, I really like the high visibility aspect of the helmet you are using. What brand and model is it. Good ventilation? Room for WiFi? I'm having a difficult time finding good WiFi speakers that are small but offer good sound. One last question, who makes the carry bag that covers your tank? Safe riding Justin! If you are ever headed down this way, message us, and we will take you to some prime native trout streams down this way.
You've got the right idea of how to put this bike to use. I love the idea of riding off for some fly-fishing, and intend to do that here in AK as well. You could probably do a whole CZcams channel dedicated to riding the Himalayan to new fishing destinations... but then everyone would know your favorite spots.
I'm familiar with North Georgia Mountains. I've hiked in the area and spent a night at the Springer Mtn summit as well as the Hike Inn there. Beautiful terrain.
The Cerakote looks like the day I put it on. Not a single blemish.
I'm still using the synthetic blend, recommended oil. Ordered a gallon of Motul stuff on Amazon or something like that.
Helmet is the Nolan N43E, but now they have the N44. True story, the first time I used that helmet it felt strange, like there was no helmet at all. Took some getting used to. So much visibility! Nothing blocking your view. I was able to mount the standard Sena speakers in without too much trouble. Those helmets are built for proprietary Bluetooth systems, but I was able to mount the Sena with provided double-sided tape. Worked well.
Tank bag is by Saddlemen. A bit big, but very nice and mostly watertight. Problem is, it doesn't appear to be available, and you'll have a hard time finding something similar with magnetic mounts, watertight, solid shape, and clear case on top. This seems like a suitable alternative by Givi, and waterproof: amzn.to/2Dpi9lI
I will not forget the invite if I'm in the area! Thanks Mort!
Thanks very much for getting back to us! Sharon and I really appreciate the information. I really like the idea of that much visibility on the helmet. The invite is absolutely sincere. We live about 15 minutes south of the beginning of the Appalachian Trail, and the Great Smoky Mountain National Park is only 2 1/2 hours away. Elk introduced there several years ago. A couple of thousand of them now. $15.00 - $20.00 'out of state' trout licenses for several days fishing. If you are in this area definitely plan to stay with us a week or more. We have a small Airsteam that we use for a guest house for visitors. Friend us on Facebook. @@KARMAkazeMoto
@@mortchainseu1002 sounds excellent! I'm not on FB much, but I'll link up just in case things work out that I'm in that area again. Sounds like a great time, and getting my feet back on the AT is something I often think about.

I love these videos. I have to watch them when I am not distracted and I need to just sit back and relax.
You just encouraged me to watch this one again. Hadn't seen it in quite a while. Watched it with new eyes. You're right, pretty relaxing with the music and scenery. But the story moves along pretty well without getting boring. I wish I could make videos like this. 😉 😁
Thanks XoHolic! Cheers from Alaska!
Been binging your channel with your Himalayan journey and just paused at 28:00 to give you props.. I am an adventure seeker, photographer and filmmaker and it's moments like that that fill your soul!! You did an incredible job with your videos and have me seriously looking at the Royal Enfield Himalayan. I look forward to seeing more! Onwards
Awesome feedback Jared, and thanks for directing me back to that lake scene. Such a surreal place. And I really appreciate the compliments on my film. That and the editing was not easy for me. It's all tricky business but has been so worth it for comments like yours. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts. 🙏
Hey ! Thanks for sharing! Enjoyed part 5. I just installed a USB charge port, RAM phone holder and racks for panniers on my Himalayan. Your videos are inspiring me to head out ! Keep up the nice work!
That's great news Henri! And thank you. It's been fun sharing my trip.
Do you have any picture of your bike with the added equipment?

Enjoying the trip so much, you are the best advert for Royal Enfield Himalayan ever.
Glad you like my work!
On second thought, perhaps I should say, glad you like my FUN! 😉
I am in awe, our world really is a beautiful place!
Very true!
Wow, that view 28:00....stunning! I’m sure that video doesn’t even do the scene justice! What an experience!
No, there's nothing quite like being right there feeling the wind and seeing the entire scene, take it all in at once. I will say that the color is fairly accurate. I did not increase the saturation or mess with this video. The Sony FDR-X3000 camera does a good job, especially when there is no harsh lighting.
Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
Scenery from 26:46 to 27:12 is mind blowing.. looking forward to P6
Will put you into a trance if you watch long enough. 😉
Huh !! After a long gap... Love you Man... From India..Land of Enfields.

Ha ha! Thanks for the laugh Beppino! 😀
Very nice to come across someone who shares a similar appreciation of riding and natural beauty, plus having the technical and aesthetic skills to share them.
Really nice comment to get while eating my breakfast. Thank you!
To paraphrase an old Buick commercial "The Great American Road Belongs to Royal Enfield"
I love how bikers salute each other while passing by. I want that kind of tradition in my country. Btw awesome video very enjoyable it's a shame I found your vlog three years later hope your journey continues good luck and god bless you.
I like salutes too. It's easier to do when you're not passing so many bikers. I think we feel like we belong to a small tribe or something. :)
Yup, the journey continues. Not sure where I'll go next, but I do have some past travels to catch up on and get videos posted.
Cheers Sam!
Stunning scenery, big skies, empty roads. Great video.
I really enjoyed this video. Now I want to visit the Yukon! Cheers. Frank, Bandit 1250
Thanks Frank! A fellow Bandit owner! 👊
Excellent road trip. I've been thinking of downsizing from my Suzuki Vstrom 1000 to the Himalayan and the more I see of your road trip, the more I like the idea.
Interesting. So what is your end goal? To have a lighter bike for off-road portions of your trips? Or just simplicity?
I think it is a good topic to cover, reasons for downsizing.
@@KARMAkazeMoto a bit of A and a bit of B. The 1000 is getting too heavy to pick up and some of the dirt roads here in Australia are little better than fire trails. A lighter bike is much better for this sort of thing. Likewise, I no longer travel the distances I once did, the 1000 is a bit overpowered for commuting. Plus, it's cheaper on rego and insurance. And you are proving that if I did win Lotto and could afford that trip around the work, the Enfield might still be the bike of choice.
😁
I so want to see someone take the Himalayan around the world!
If you end up with one, be sure to let me know how it goes.

Thanks so much!
I concur with the comments I have read commending you on your role as director, narrator and star of the show! I can't get over the effort you made filming this ..... but every time you sleep on the ground under a tarp I imagine a Grizzly stomping around and know I could never have the guts! Would love to retrace your steps in Alberta /BC as I haven't yet ventured more than 250 km out of Vancouver! I ride a Triumph Scrambler b !ut after spending 6 weeks in India last year have a serious RE addiction! I am an Indio-phile you could say .... love the people, food, culture, colour and of course, their motorcycles! Bravo!
Thanks so much Di! That's a really great comment. I hope you do tackle more miles in BC and Alberta. You certainly have a good opportunity from Vancouver to ride a big loop and wind up back home. Right? Would be an epic ride. Good to know you had such a good experience in India. I hope to visit next year for a few weeks of riding. You're encouraging me to start making my plans. Take care and enjoy the final parts of the series. P6 seems to be the fan favorite. Hope you like glaciers! 😁❄
@@KARMAkazeMoto Lovely to hear from you! Glaciers sound mighty cold to me .... but not as cold maybe as the Himalayan foothills adventures you are destined for, no doubt! Wouldn't it make sense to venture where your RE actually got its name :) I loved Northern India, with the elevation and shockingly windy roads. Even saw a black Himalayan at 15,000 feet which is as far as I was allowed to venture (Sikkim) as a foreigner. Sensitive border up there apparently! Do you have an Instagram account by the way ... would like to follow :)
I fully agree, a trip to Northern India is a must. Looking forward to it. As for Instagram, yes. It's a bit sparse, but I'll be using it more and more as time goes on. instagram.com/karmakazemoto

This is the best traveling series I've seen in a long time! Hi from Bethel, AK!
Hello from Eagle River! 🙂
Quite a compliment. Much appreciated.
Long ago, near Winnepeg, I met two RCAF guys on their way to BC. So I turned West as well. Such a great ride!
I think your bike hits the Sweet spot with it's cc's and physical size. When I saw the BMW and Tenere leave, they looked very large and ungainly. Almost unmotorcycle looking. I guess I'm old school, I've had two to 1978 xt500s , '78 SR500, '93 dr650 and a 2003 dr650. I like the feel, look, sound and simplicity of an air-cooled single. I don't mind taking a little longer to get there, at least you get to enjoy the scenery more. And the satisfying feeling that you have a bike that cost a third of those big ones. I'm watching all of these Himalayan videos as I'm considering the purchase of one in the Philippines. I'll be keeping my Springer here in Texas when I'm not here.
Yeah, you get it. The DR is a fantastic bike. Do just about anything.
Beautiful scenery, most people in cars would never notice any of what you saw.
Yup. I didn't miss a single animal. I didn't even record or share everything either. Passed a hard of 15 Elk and my camera was dead.
I dunno.... There might have been a chipmunk or two, but they're kinda small and hard to see! LOL! Being enclosed in a vehicle is something I can't stand, I envy your trip!
😃🐿

I know how much work has gone into these videos and I appreciate the great quality. I definitely favor these smaller bikes and the Himalayan is a strong contender for my next bike.
Thanks you! My video shooting and editing skills are minimal, so you're quite right. Took a lot of time, patience and effort to get this done. Always nice to have that recognized. 🙂
If a Himalayan might be the next bike, what is your current bike? Or previous?
@@KARMAkazeMoto I have a Honda CB300F right now. I've messed around with it on some rough roads and was thinking about modding it a little to go on more adventures but likely not worth it. Himalayan sounds like the perfect bike for me. I contemplated versys300x and Honda dual sports as well.
In Canada the price is closer to $7000 for the Himalayan but seems like a good value for what you get.
This was really cool. I want this bike, but I wish Honda or Kawasaki made something just like it. Simple, and basic, but basically great.
I wouldn't be surprised if other bike manufacturers catch on and start building more affordable, utilitarian style bikes with less plastic and more rugged appeal. But until then, the Himalyan has the crown.
Thanks for watching and commenting.
Why don't you buy a Himalayan and stop going behind those Honda's and kawasaki's

If you don't mind me asking, what is it you like best about this? It would help me tailor future videos to be as good as possible.
First, the photography is spectacular, probably the best part for me. @@KARMAkazeMotoI have travelled quite a bit up in Alaska, but I have never been able to capture the photos that you have. Keep the balance between the details of the trip, i.e. the gear, camping equipment, route planning and the riding and scenery. Many videos seem to focus on only one part of the trip. The comment here that RE should sponsor you is true. This is the best advertisement for the Himalayan out there.
Thanks for such positive feedback Jim. It's always interesting to see what was captured on camera after the fact, and then witness how the pieces fit together to tell the story. I was certainly trying to get good images, and have years of photography practice, but this video thing is very new to me. I'm glad it's working out and being appreciated.
I think your comments on incorporating trip planning, gear, etc., is good advice. I'll be sure to do a little more of that.

Love from India🇮🇳
I started at the beginning of the series and so far this has been the best one!
Glad you liked it Anthony.
I've only had my Himalayan for a month and the weather here isn't cooperating, so I only have about 500 miles on her. I've found that the sweet spot for road travel is about 55mph (~90kph). Faster than that and the bike feels like I'm pushing it too hard. After it's broken in, maybe my comfort level will increase. With a mix of city, some faster roads, and some gravel/trails, I'm getting about 63mpg (27-28km/L?)...not too shabby, I'd say. I can't wait for better weather so I can do part of the TAT.
If I was not already planning on getting a Himalayan in the early Spring. I would definitely look at getting one after watching your footage on your trip.

The photos after Haines Junction are really cool
Thanks Drew! I couldn't pass up the opportunity to get those shots. Purple fireweed and snowy mountains? All I had to do was park and shoot.
Finally... Thought this might be the end of the series but it continues. Looks like you have reserved the best for the final.
At 28:41 "Brought to you by Royal Enfield Himalayan"... Loved the way you said it... The bgm from 29:38 to 31:08 just blew me away.
If there's anybody, Royal Enfield should consider you as a Brand Ambassador for the Himalayan in the US & Canada. What you do is much more than the company sponsored sojourns within India. You are doing it in a region where Royal Enfield is yet to gain a foothold. That's the USP RE should capitalize on.
Waiting for the home run video and as always wishing you great (s)miles ahead!
Many thanks! Yup, the "Brought to you by..." was a very useful impromptu comment. Sometimes talking to oneself is a good thing. 😊
Brand Ambassador... I like the sound of that. 😁
Awesome series!!!! Hugs from Chile!!!!! 🤗🤗🤗
Think so much!
Hugs from ALASKA!

Maybe hours of editing... Ok, the scenario helps a lot! Beautiful part of this amazing continent! Your video made me anxious to start my trip. I'm going through the same roads you shows here... Wow! But there's more than an year up to my departure. I'm on a countdown... Thank you, buddy! Thank you for make me so happy foreseeing my own trip!
Comments like this make it worth it to have invested so many hours in making the series. And I'm really excited for you for your trip. If you have any questions about certain section of the road that I covered, feel free to ask. You can also use my email. info@karmakaze.co

😁
Everything is beautiful. Your ride seems like a real adventure.
I prefer to be called handsome, but thank you. 😆😉
Seriously, thanks for watching and commenting Robert!
@@KARMAkazeMoto I am also interested in finding out what you’ve learned about your bike since the trip and would you buy it again. If you have done that video I would appreciate the link. I’ve watched so many positive and negative videos on the Royal Enfield it’s confusing. I’m watching your ride review video now.
You are the only one for whom I enabled the bell icon ever. I don't know why the heck it doesn't work 😥 now am 10 hours late.. although thanks God now I can enjoy your super interesting video while having dinner 🌹🌹. Looking forward to see more of your videos sir take care God bless.
Sorry to hear about the notifications not working. Perhaps you have phone settings that don't allow notification from CZcams to appear. Even if you sign up for notification, individual App settings might stop them. Just a thought.
But I'm so glad you got to enjoy the video. Now tell me more about this dinner! 😀 Something delicious I hope. 😉
@@KARMAkazeMoto yes sir you were right I have changed the app settings hope it works from next time. I had paneer masala and chapati for my dinner if you have Indian restaurants there must try it! Your video was spectacular showed it to my mom too 😍🤗
Excellent!
We do have an Indian restaurant, Bombay Deluxe. I was there recently. I think I'm going to do a short video this spring, riding through Anchorage Alaska then lunch at Bombay. I'll order the dish if they have it! 😁
Had been waiting for part 5 for a long time. ❤
This video is definitely worth the wait.👍
So glad to hear it!
Really appreciate your work. This pensioner really likes his Himalayan.
Thanks Rolly!
I forgot to ask where you've been riding with yours. Any place special?
I live in South Yorkshire England so it's a small world. I ride in the countryside and the occasional trip of about 300 miles. I bought the Himalayan last August and have covered 4,800 miles.
You've got me beat on combined mileage. Any pointers or advice?
Changes I have made are the rear rack, exhaust silencer, seat rebuild, and a K&N air filter RB-0510. All successful changes. I have also added heated handgrips, spotlights and a USB charger.
I loved your selection of music. Awesome video. Great journey one can imagine to take. Cheers.
Thanks Jitender!
I really enjoyed this series and am looking forward to the next episode. New sub!
Thanks Ebon! Where are you located?
@@KARMAkazeMoto My pleasure. I'm in the Columbus Ohio area. Been riding for about 10 yrs and really enjoy it. One day, I'll make a long trip across the county. :-)
@@EbonB okay, I've been in Columbus a couple times and have passed it many during trips home to Michigan when on leave. Grew up North of Toledo.
Hope you make that cross country trip a reality! 🏍
@@KARMAkazeMoto Nice! I got family in Toledo...Hope that doesnt mean your an Wolverine fan....LOL! ;-)
No teamism here! We are not mortal enemies. Nothing to worry about. 😉
Another excellent episode with inspiring environment and riding. Top notch! The lynx was cool!
I think you should had played a part of 'Country Roads take me home to the place i belong...' not literally but kind of figuratively but the journey scenes from 21:36 or so from part 1, has been absolutely breathtaking.
Awesome vlog justin....hatsoff to you cant wait for P6...Yukon visuals were spectacular
Excellent! 😁
