As a momma with much younger kiddos and struggling butting heads with my daughter (ONLY when it comes to math🤦🏻‍♀️) I needed to hear this. I think math is a little tougher for her and I get frustrated. Having to remind myself that her and her brother are different kiddos with different strengths and learning styles and I think she needs something more basic and straightforward. Thank you for the encouragement🫶🏻

This was super helpful, Rachel! My son is going into 7th but won’t be ready for pre algebra until 8th grade probably. I grabbed a used copy of Math U See pre algebra and plan on using it, but we’ve never done MUS before, so I hope it goes well.

Have you looked at Denison Algebra? Kids who struggle tend to do great with Denison. I love the way it breaks things down for the kids.

I have just heard about this recently but not familiar with it. I really need to look into it. How long does it take? Is it on the computer?
      thanks you!

I'll be trying Denison math with my 14 year old. He hates that algebra adds in letters too! It has great reviews and uses both video lessons and a workbook as I don't want math completely on a computer.

We'll be switching math curriculums this year. We have really only done Saxon but i found my younger 2 were not retaining what they learned so the 11 year will use MUS and the 14 year will be doing Denison math.

I really appreciate this video! MUS has been one of our constants throughout our school years. The nice thing about that course, you can really move quickly through a level. We have used Saxon as well, we really like Nicole the Math lady for Saxon!

I also have boys to teach, and they struggle in math with any curriculum. One complaint they have with Math u See (we tried for a semester) is they got bored with the same "type" of math all adding every lesson, or all multiplication every lesson. Did your boys complain about that aspect of not having some variety? I personally like Saxon because of the variety yet repetition through the lessons of past lessons. I do have two that struggle with focus and need variety to 'spice" things up but they definitely need the discipline it takes to master the basics. :)

That is a good point. My boys didn’t seem bothered by that. If they had it down we moved through quickly, and if they needed extra practice we could slow it down. I know we played games that included counting out money and using dice which we would practice adding or multiplying 😉

We love Saxon but have only used 1 other math CLE or Christian Light Education, which is very similar to Saxon. I agree that reviewing and slowing down is so helpful. I have a 3 year old that I’m considering using a different math with him when that time comes. Thanks for all your tips. With 4 kids as well, I agree that they are all so different. Prayer is the key to it all!❤

Thank you for this helpful video. Math is a challenging subject for us. My oldest is really struggling in Algebra 1. It seems she is just a kid that needs a lot more repetition than what many curriculums provide. My 2nd child has a very short attention span, though she's starting to improve her math focus. She enters 9th grade next year, but I'm not sure what we'll do. She needs more practice with fractions and decimals, which we'll try over the summer. But MUS didn't work that great with her - maybe it was too in depth? I'm really not sure. This process is exhausting.
My 3rd child is liking MUS, but he doesn't want to watch the videos! He's in Delta now. Do you think he'd be able to move forward in MUS without watching the videos?

Wow you have different math learners too😉
For Math U See my youngest is not doing videos right now. But they are so helpful with any questions I may have. I have been through several times so I am familiar with😉
You could find DVDs used and have for backup 🤗

@@learningwithboys7431 great point, that I could watch the videos, which would help me when he needs help. Kind of obvious, but I really didn't think of that! 😂 Thank you!
God bless you and your family 💖
