Hi! So excited for y’all to jump into Denison Algebra! I have a child who didn’t like math, but didn’t struggle with math and she has LOVES Denison math. It is her favorite class now! I hope y’all enjoy it! It really was the best curriculum decision we have ever made!

Denison Algebra was a life saver in our homeschool this year. He is a fun teacher. Will use through high school

Asking your children what they want from their education and observing how they learn helps with the constant curriculum swaps. We do an "interview" before diving into the next year... this assures that my children are involved in their education and I do not pick only what "I want" for them. My boys, for example, thrive on hands-on activities, so we took a big step and incorporated Montessori based learning for math and language art, etc. We get most of it printed off of Etsy...which supports the moms who make their own curriculums. Challenging yourself to have a thinking love can really humble you and you don't have to have FOMO about curriculums. Good luck y'all!!

That’s a great way to do it! I give my kids a survey each year as well :) That way I can start moving in the right direction for each of them :) I love being able to personalize their education to them.

My son who excels in math LOVES Denison math! I also use it for my daughter who isn’t a fan of math and they both love it and comprehend it all

That is so great to hear! I can't wait to try it out... (as I sit here daily trying to finish off our current math! LOL).

I am looking at Denison for my child who excels in math and another who hates it. So glad to hear it is working well for both of your children!

Ohhh I’ll pick your brain at the end of the year on Dennison. I was looking at that for him for the year after next

I really don't know how it could possibly go wrong, but put it down to one of my kids to not "gel" with the program :) Hopefully it will be amazing and I can stop researching math programs!

CTC is working great for my 7th grader. She just started a few pre algebra lessons, and she is actually enjoying them! I don’t think I’ll use it for my younger child who is math brained, though. She can handle more of a spiral curriculum.

Oh, it sounds like CTC math is our kind of thing - mastery based. I'll have to put this on my list for the future.

We are halfway through Denison Pre-Algebra and my child never complains about math anymore 🙌 lol I don’t give him the answer key though I check cause… boys 😂

I’m definitely planning to use Denison when my kids get to that point. My twins are going into 5th grade and have been using Apologia the last couple of years and we love it. But it only goes through 6th grade. It seems like Denison will be a great one to seamlessly go into.

Keeping it the same, but I am thinking of adding some extra practice if needed.

Idk what math we are using next year!!! I’m still researching them!!! I have no issues with teaching the math lessons but I want a curriculum that teaches math well!!! I wished I had done more review for the grade level before!!! I’ve started to do it this year tho!!! Nothing wrong with supplementing!!! My math teacher from high school taught math in many ways so I try that when needed!!! My younger boy can’t mark his work but the rest of my older kids can!!! He’s 13 and he is a different kid anyway!!!

I wish you the best of luck in your math research for next year! For me, it's one of my really tough subjects to figure out most years. Between that and writing!

Totally looking into CTC for Noah when he hits pre algebra

I'm not sure how CTC will be for pre-algebra. I think it's great for foundational skill though. I'm just unsure about the upper levels.

I have a 6th grader and hes struggling bad. This is my 1st time homeschooling. I would love to get him caught up in english/writing and math. Any suggestions on where to start? Signed a scared struggling single mom that wants what's best for her son. Thank you for your time. Also thank you for these review posts.

    • @CalmintheChaosHomeschool
      @CalmintheChaosHomeschool  Před 3 měsíci +1

So, my best suggestion is to first start where he is at. It’s ok for him to not be “at grade level”, but it’s not ok for him to be continuously struggling all the time. When you start at where he is actually at, and he can start filling in the gaps, he will slowly be able to “catch up” or really just reach the level that he is supposed to be at. Not all kids develop and learn at the same pace. I think CTC Marh would be a great math to try out with him and I give some reasons in this video. He can start where he is at, ship anything he already knows and truly will at his level. If you start out at a bit too easy, he can quickly move through the lessons and fill in any gaps he may have. For LA, I would go with a mix and match approach, placing him where he is at again. My video next week will show some options to look into. If you know what complements you want, you can then look through the curriculum and pick the levels that he needs to be working at.

How did you like what you used for math this past year? Are you keeping things the same, or are you looking for something new?

We never got to it. Things started to fall apart for us when she hit the ending of the 5th grade level, so we moved to CTC Math. That has been working better for us this year.

Thanks for hosting! CTC math looks great for middle school kids. My kids are still young so I don’t use online courses but I think as well, as they get older I won’t want to mark their lessons 😅
