Do you have the video for the 3rd gen focusrite? I don't know what you're talking about.
Hi Chris, i liked your video very much, in my OBS it doesn´t appear the "Open Plug-in interface" so i don´t know what to do, with the other plugins that appears i also appears the "Open Plug-in interface". Thanks a lot in advance
@@giulianeitor very strange! You can take a look at this forum and see if It helps at all: github.com/obsproject/obs-studio/issues/7617
@@CMillerMusicthank you very much Chris, you are great, i tried a lot of things until i get with the issue. I think it was a problem with installing too much times the reaper program in different folders. Then it appear but it didn’t work until i selected a different audio driver, one that i wasn’t using. Thank you again and I’m definitely giving you the sub 💪🏻💪🏻
Hello ! Thanks a lot for this, but is there a way to change the vst folder in OBS? All my vsts are on my HDD and the folder used by OBS is on my SSD :/ dont want to reinstall everything from one place to another so if by any chance you knew how to do it that’d be cool ! Thanks for this video again :)
THANK YOU! I was having a hell of a time figuring this crap out after OBS updated and broke the setup I had before. Your video got me back up and running.
The gain tip at the end was perfect, too.
So happy it helped you!!
This is the best video on this subject. Like everyone else commenting, I watched dozens of these videos and, while their intentions were good, most of them missed extremely important steps in the process. This was well thought out and thorough and actually works. Thank you.
Appreciate the feedback Jimmy!
hope this comment is true, coming from the dozens of other videos right now
@@jackwoods8021 let me know if you run onto any troubles!
@@jackwoods8021 it will depend on a few things. What isn't specifically working?
I must be some type of special, I chose audio output this entire time... thank you for the wonderful tutorial and your extreme patience for something that is clearly undiagnosed.
So you are all good now? My pleasure 😁
The double gain trick is VERY helpful my gosh
You're a f****** legend mate... I swear I watched a dozen videos, over 4 hours last night trying to make it work, and this worked instantly. Thank you for sharing.
Glad I could help!!!
good lord... took forever to find a video that actually works. Definitely liking and subscribing. Thanks for the video!
Amazing, straight to the point and it worked perfectly. All the waffle of all the other 20 minute videos of other content creators are just plain rubbish and didn't work. Thanks! Subscribed
This is by far the best tutorial on this subject. I have been 18 months now trying to get it to work. One tip I found through trial an error was that when I played back my youtube live streams (electric acoustic guitar and vocal, 2 tracks) there was massive interference/crackle making it unusable. I found that deleting midi tracks on Ableton solved this. While the vocal recording is not totally dry the audio effects are not fully functioning on the live stream compared to recording a song using the same effects/plugins.
Thankyou!
Just to clarify, are you still having issues? Make sure your bitrate on obs and your daw are the same
@@CMillerMusic Having the same issue, but I need my midi tracks in Ableton. When I record, the audio is all chopped up. Thank you for this help!
bitrate on both are 48k
@@DomOlivo what is your buffer rate set as in Ableton?
@@CMillerMusic 256 buffer size and 48k sample rate, thank you !
This is the only tutorial that worked for me, thank you so much man!
Bro I've been trying everything for weeks.. thank you so so much for this easy and simple tutorial!!
Very welcome! Now go create!!!!
You're a legend! Great! Simple and effective!
The gain trick solved all my problems. Thanks a ton!
Dude.. I struggled with his shit for hours. I come across this video. Simple fix.. you are a fuckin legend 🤘
Been searching for something like for a while. There are many videos on YT doing the same exact thing only without the double gain before the VST to silence the DI input. Finally I can get rid of the DI sound, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
My pleasure!
It really Worked for me .... really easy to follow the steps . THANK YOU!!!!!
Worked perfectly. Thank you so much
Stumbled on your vid, and I do have the 3rd gen interface. Would love the video on that.

Thanks a lot mate, this was incredibly helpful, very clean solution!
Thanks for sharing!
You are the man! Thank you
Hey Thank you so much for doing this. The part with adding the gain twice and going to -30db is key. I couldnt get rid of the direct input while playing guitar but that did it. Hero status sir
You're very welcome!
Awesome many many thanks!

J’ai cherché pendant plusieurs heures et tutos et c’est t’as solution qui a marché merci beaucoup 🙏
You saved my day!
Glad I could help!!
appreciate it man
BRO I STG IVE BEEN TRYING TO FIGURE THIS OUT FOR YEARS THANK YOU
Glad I could help 😁
This has worked for me 99 percent of the way. I can’t get my dry interface audio to go away even with the gain doubled with -30db. They are in the right order as well
Double check that you are using the right "input". I'd you only have sry signal, you are not selecting the right input
Great❤
nice one!
You can also put the capture device to something not being used instead of default and then you don't have to put the 2 gain reduction plugins on there.
You can, but if something goes wrong it makes troubleshooting very difficult for people not knowing what to do. Eg. People watching this video
Fair enough. It was definitely clever to use the gain like that. @@CMillerMusic
I did this with Synchronous Audio Router routing Cakewalk Mic to OBS.
Wow thank you sir (subscribed!!) this actually worked on OBS 29 tested today. I had issues with running virtual cables and REAStream with all the other tutorials until this one.
Thanks again.
Quick question: How do I adjust latency within OBS to Twitch utilizing the master track settings? Is there a setting?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Make sure that you don't have "stream delay" enabled in OBS. Go to File> Settings> Advanced and scroll down a little to "Stream Delay". Other than that, you can't change the delay between OBS and Twitch. Hope that helps
Works with Cakewalk, thanks
tnx bro
Got a new subscriber out of me!
thaaaank youuuuu
Great video, thanks. There are a couple of things I am having trouble with:
1) For the computer’s audio settings, should they still be set to the interface or do you set them to the virtual cable?
2) When I follow these instructions, my voice and processed guitar goes into
Obs and Zoom fine, but my virtual instruments in my DAW aren’t being heard by the other person in Zoom even though they’re coming through on the meters. This is using an M-Audio MIDO controller. Any ideas?
What I’m trying to do is set up a project in my DAW in which I have a mic on one track, a guitar sim on another track and a piano VST on another track.
So, if I were to give a guitar lesson, I could talk, play guitar and piano.
This is an interesting one 🤔
Your systeme settings should be set to you interface. This method removes the need for virtual cables etc.
If you are sure that mic is being transported from your daw master channel, then your piano etc should also come across.
Without specifically seeing the setup first hand it's a little difficult to diagnose unfortunately.
Maybe we could jump on a video call sometime and check it out?
I don't get sound when i add the two -30 db gains . . .
ok I got the sound by selecting in in monitorization or by arming the track with the record button
I looks like It is getting the default sound first then the reapluggin
Great video! I have a question about a slightly different setup, if I may.
Can I put the plugin on a mixbus, so I can pick which tracks I want to stream? I ask this because I’d like to have a clicktrack running during my livestream when I’m improvising, but I don’t want to include the clicktrack in my stream’s audio. 😊
With this setup, it doesnt stream the click track. If it does, you can change where the click track is coming from in Ableton so they dont hear it.
But to answer you question, yes you can.
One way is to route all audio to a single audio track, then put reastream on that one, instead of the master. There may be some other implications, but you get the general idea
Have you by any chance figured out a way to route the metronome out of Ableton into OBS? I think the only workaround I found is to create a midi channel and map out the click sounds.
Do you mean, you want your viewers to hear the metronome? I'm sure there would be a way, I just have never tried given I never want my listeners to hear the annoying click 😅
@@CMillerMusic in this case, I do want my viewers to hear it because I’m doing tutorials. Just curious anyways, my workaround works ok.
Awesome tutorial. I would add that the sample rate in the DAW and in OBS have to be the same or else OBS won't receive anything
Thankyou and great point!
how do you change it in obs?
Cheers Chris. Now the audio is coming through but for some reason when I'm testing sounds or going through samples on my menus on the left, that audio isn't coming through obs, any ideas? Cheers
@ajmorenomusic I may be wrong, but I think that goes through the monitor route not the master.
where's the tutorial on the loopback feature of focusrite interfaces?
This has been super helpful but for some reason no matter what folder I drop these plugins into I can't get OBS to read that they exist. I've tried putting the plugins in every folder I've found that contains plugins that ARE being recognized by OBS but these REA plugins just aren't showing up. OBS 29.1.3, same versions of the REA plugins you have here. I got it into Ableton without issue, but OBS just won't see them. Any ideas?
There are specific folders it must be in. Make sure when you drop it into a folder you believe is correct, restart obs to let it find it
Thanks for the video, Im using this for streaming drum sessions but I have a problem. Im able to capture the audio from DAW into OBS and send it to the stream, but when I play the drums on top of a song on CZcams, The audio comming from my DAW has an offset. Even though Im playing it on time. How can I fix this?
Ypu can set a delay on whichever is play9ng first. Most likely this would be you youtube video
@@CMillerMusic Thank you so much for taking the time for the reply and help!
One question (I’ve been meaning to ask this for months):
I end up with my audio input capture, which I’ve renamed to my DAW (Sonar). I also end up with a track called “mic.” When I play music from the DAW, BOTH meters are lighting up. Is that what’s supposed to happen or am I suppose to mute one? This is the only part I don’t understand. Oh, and one more thing: I imagine the volume faders in the DAW should affect what’s coming into OBS, correct? So, if you are playing a project from your DAW and turn up the fader on the snare, for instance, you should hear that in OBS, correct?
Volume faders adjusted in your DAW will change the sound going to the master, so if you have the Reastream on the master, then yes.
I'm not sure why both mic and DAW are receiving audio, I would need to see a few screenshots to get an understanding.
@@CMillerMusic Which one should be? Just DAW?
I have reaper but will it work with cakewalk
last time i tried this, there was a significant delay caused by restream plugin, any thoughts on this?
Reastream will not cause a significant delay. It's a low latency plugin.
That being said, what makes you say significant delay? Are you hearing to audio's on your ears? If so, you should always turn monitoring off in OBS and only monitor from your daw
Great explanations Chris, so how do I send my audio to obs is it with usb I am a little confused between the daw and obs Tnx!
The plugin is the "sending" tool.
The chain becomes
Sending: DAW > Reastream in DAW >
Receiving: Reastream in OBS.
this is a great vid, thank you! one issue i still have is whenever i begin to play my track on fl studio the audio somehow crashes and stops being recieved on my OBS. i have to remake a whole new audio channel but that still doesn't solve the issue, what do I do?
Hello, I have a focusrite scarlett 2i2 2nd gen interface. Do you know if this is the best method to capture ableton live and transmit using obs studio, or do you know another better alternative for my setup? Greetings from Argentina.
This is the best method 👍
@@CMillerMusic Thanks! Following this tutorial I now have the routing working correctly. Respect Man! 🙌
I love you
Great tutorial buddy! Now let me make a little challenging for you. What if i'm using a pc only for DAW mixing and a different one for broadcasting? How can i send that DAW output to another PC? Thanks a lot!
You can achieve this with reastream also! As long as both PC's are connected to the same network, instead of selecting local, you select "send audio/midi:ip" and select *broadcast. On the second pc, add your reastream and select receive. Important to note the names as identifier must be EXACTLY the same. Let me know how you go 😁
When playing guitar and using a DAW I get latency from the guitar and it doesn't line up with the DAW. Any suggestions on how to fix this?
Check your buffer rates in your DAW. Adjust as low as it can go without crackling and hopefully you can get that latency down
Gtreat Bro💯
Isn't audio input capture in OBS for microphones? I've trying doing what you have done in video and my options are 1 Default 2 Microphone Apollo Twin Thunderbolt. When I choose default, it just uses the microphone of my Webcam. So not quite sure what I've missed here! Thanks for the video
Odd? Make sure in your windows audio settings that you have your interface as your default audio option.
Hey there friend, I really need some help with something.
I’m wanting to add preset vocals fx onto my Obs Studio, such as fx that they have on bandlab recording studio already ready to use. I Just don’t know where to find all of the presets and how I’m supposed to install/add the presets onto Obs studio. Please help
Is the preset a VST when you install it?
I want to play my keyboard through obs for a LIVESTREAM jazz hangout. I'm using a midi USB connector for my laptop. I get a pop-up "new device detected & ready to use" but I don't see it showing up as a device to add. Do I still need to download the realstream you mentioned? Thanks for any suggestions
Are you using a DAW?
@@CMillerMusic I'm using a Yamaha keyboard. PSR-530. Don't know if it's considered a Digital Audio Workstation "DAW"
@Stevonjbiz if your keyboard is simply Midi, then not having it attached to a DAW will not work.
The reason is your keyboard is just sending midi signals and not actually sound. If your keyboard has sound, you can plugin the keyboard to output into a audio interface to receive the audio. Plugging it into your pc via midi, simply makes it a controller. You need something for it to control, luke an instrument inside a daw
@@CMillerMusic Cool thanks for that info, I definitely appreciate it.
Do you think this would work in Twitch Studio? Also I cant find where the plug ins are. I tried program files and added a folder but all the folders were empty inside. PC user here.
It won't work with Twitch studio as, Studio cant have VST's.
When installing the plugins, it will have the file path in the install screen. Just copy this when looking for them.
@@CMillerMusic Thanks! I switched to OBS and its working! :D
@@MatthewRennickMusic glad I could help!
Which version of OBS do you used?
Any versions that allow VST plugins should work. This is most.
Hi Chris , i just started using rea-stream , but when I look back at the recorded video it seems to be very choppy and unaudible I've tired different audio interfaces and different buffer / sample rates but cant get my daw audio clean while recoding on obs
Hello Chris - I'm having this issue too. Everything is working, but the recorded audio is all chopped up. thank you!!
Unfortunately without looking at your sample rates and your setup in general I can help diagnose the issue
MEEEEEERCIIIIIIIII
dont have AAX for protools
Quick question where can I find my Master Channel? im new to Studio one so sorry.
I'm not familiar with studio one, im sure there are tutorials for beginners on CZcams 😀
I just got the focusrite 18i8 and obs isn't getting any signal from my daw or mic inputs! I'm losing my mind every vid I see and follow the steps doesn't work for me. Help! 😢
Check the focusrite control centre and ensure you have that setup correctly first
the video for the focusrite 3rd gen??
I need to figure out how to do this with Sonar and 12 tracks for my drums. Been trying to figure out how to do this for years!!!!
If sonar uses vat plugins, I d9nt see why this method wouldn't work
@@CMillerMusic It did thanks I figured it out. Did you ever do a video for the focusrite? I just added one with loopback since my new rig does not have firewire for my achient Alesis-io26.
i get mic delay what is your latency settings to keep a clean sound with your mic and no delay
Are you monitoring in OBS or your DAW?
@@CMillerMusic My daw
@@MIXBYMALACHI Do you mean you get latency between your audio and what is shown in the video?
@@CMillerMusic i fixed it man thanks for this video been wanting to stream what i do on pc but was just use to the mac os way lol
@@MIXBYMALACHI Great to hear! Can't wait to see what you create!
What if you use a custom vst2 folder on an external drive in ableton? How do I get it to show up in plug ins? I tried putting a shortcut from the system vst folder to my custom one but it doesnt work.
Are you only wanting the reastrem vst, if so just copy and paste it into the right directory
I have a simple question, but first I'd like to say thank you so much for this video it really helped me on this issue! So when you have it all setup do you hear everything on your headphones with effects etc? If so where do you enable it, in the DAW or the OBS? Does it have a delay? Thank you so much mate, greetings from Brazil!
Listen through Ableton. Turn off monitoring in obs you will have too much delay and it will be impossible to play along
@@CMillerMusic That's what I figured, thank you for clarifying
Great video homie. I seem to have a delay on OBS side from Able. any suggestions on how to fix?
Ensure that you are not monitoring within OBS and only monitoring from Ableton.
@@CMillerMusic okay I just checked that, and it seems like it’s mirroring properly. Seems to have the delay now when I record desktop audio and ableton at the same time on OBS🤔🤔
@djchesnut5791 how big of a delay are we talking? If it's small, use the delay settings in the advanced audio settings. If it's large, you may have a CPU issue
