    For those wondering about how to monitor the Logic mix, what we do is make an aggregate device in the 'Audio MIDI Setup' app made up of our A&H SQ6 USB output, and the built-in audio output (i.e. the headphone socket/internal speakers on an iMac/MacBook). This gives us a 34 channel device that we select as the audio output in Logic (where he showed selecting 'X-USB' in the video). The first 32 channels are what goes out over USB to the mixer (though you would only use two of these for your stereo mix, again as shown in the video), and channels 33-34 go to the headphones. Our mix bus is on an aux channel one stage before the actual Output channel, with a Send added which routes the mix audio to 33/34 and gives a separate output going to the headphone jack (or built-in speakers) that we can control the level of independently. The added benefit of this is that if you have a channel you don't want to go out to the live stream, say an MD or talkback mic, that you would still like to hear in your monitors, you can route that channel directly to Output 33/34 (in our case) and completely bypass the main mix bus.
    On another note, @PHED Church it's strange that your M1 Mac Mini struggles to record as well as process the mix-we're running a 10 year old iMac with an i5 and 8GB RAM, and it'll process 32 channels of audio from our SQ6 with a decent number of plugins (mostly stock with a couple of Waves) absolutely fine. We multitrack record simultaneously, and we have no issues during our livestream. We're probably pushing the limits a bit, but an M1 should be loads faster. Maybe the shared memory means that it really needs 16GB to have enough breathing room.

      Good question. Why send it back to the X32? We send it out the M1’s headphone socket directly into the Atem. Works a treat - it is the mix you want Charles because you’ve told Logic to send it there and not back to the X-USB. So I’m genuinely curious if your way has benefits. @@markwilliams4276 We tried a few different methods (including the simple headphone out) to route the audio from Logic back to the ATEM and have (at least for the moment) settled on sending the audio feed back into the mixer via USB and then out to the ATEM via a stereo aux mix. We found, at least in our situation, to eliminate all perceivable latency and enabled us to better monitor the Logic mix being sent to the ATEM.

      Hey great question.. so we just use the board. We “solo” the 2 channels. We currently have one guy mixing both so this is good for him. When he wants to adjust the live stream just hit solo on mixer. Other thing you could do is plug headphones, directly into the Mac computer.

      @@phedchurch when he solos , it doesn’t effect anything on FOH or any monitor system outside right ? Just solos into the headphones connected in the mixer ? And if you connect headphones in to the mac you would have to change the output on logic to hear it though

    • @phedchurch
      @phedchurch  Před rokem

      @@KennySalamanca yes I believe that is true. The soloing doesn’t affect the main mix. No, you can set up your board so when you solo it’s almost main mix, but this is a setting in your X 32 a default is through headphones only. I’m sure there’s another way to maybe set up a second output I’m not positive on that there may be another way to more efficiently send the sound to a live stream as well.
