I think you dabble in a very special part of the no face land of the Internet. Specifically because you make/ started with mmorpg content.
If you think about it, most of the people you meet in a mmorpg are people of whom you'll never see the faces, and people are OK with that.
So, in a way, showing your WoW character is all the face reveal this community needed

@@Max_ikingking Pretty interesting insight. Anonymity is something I'm so used to as a long time MMO junky that I always felt it was odd when content creators chose to do a face reveal. It always felt like an unnecessary risk to just throw away your anonymity for something that, at least in my opinion, doesn't add anything meaningful to the actual quality or nature of the content itself. Just having an avatar, whether animated or not, is enough.
Never show your face. Keep it a mystery.

Agreed, I don’t think in all my years of life I’ve ever cared what a radio personality/audio book reader/youtuber looked like. It’s more fun not knowing to me

In my opinion, a big part of the fun of MMO's is that we all hide behind these avatars of Warcraft. It can be fun to get to the person behind the camera, but it breaks the illusion of being in another world and interacting through it.

I completely agree with everything you said.
As some other people are saying, your WoW character already acts as your "face", which is kind of funny that your character's face is hidden behind a helmet. Point is, your fans have already adopted a visual perception / expectation of you, so changing that in anyway sort of shatters a part of the illusion or gimmick that's developed for years. The same sort of point can be made for other channels that use some kind of avatar. Even a lack of an avatar still counts as an avatar, they're an incorporeal being with a voice.
No face reveal unless you're wearing Herod's helm.

It kinda makes sense from a business aspect. If you already released videos every once in a while as a side thing and it blew up, some people just need to take a break for a bit to restructure before they make the switch to uploading all the time, if they want to go down the full time creator route. I'll take more MadSeason

I was not thinking "Oh, God! I hope he's not doing a face reveal!" - I was very curious about what the joke would be in place of a face reveal, half expecting a CGI of your Warcraft character in front of your real recording room as a backdrop. I agree with everything you said here. Privacy is very important, and there are crazy people on the internet literally hunting for people to make miserable or even ruin the lives of. It's best not to place yourself in a way where such people can effect you unless you already possess all the fame and celebrity needed to deter them.
I think no cams shows the value of the actual context itself. If you cannot leverage the algorithm with cams and still succeed on engagement metrics and just overall channel community. It just speaks highly on how well produced the content is and that’s exactly what we want. Kinda like the lord of

Hey MadSeason, I can relate to the video. I have an IG meme page with 26k followers about my city that has 180k people living in it, so basically the whole city knows me even if they are not followers. I chose to stay anonymous but around 80 people now know who is behind the page. For other local content creators, it's crazy how much hate they get because people see that there's a real person behind the account. I rarely get any hate and if possible, I never want to show my face online to that audience because I couldn't walk around the city unnoticed and for me, my content is more important than the person behind it. Anyway, you probably won't read this but just wanted to give my 2 cents on the topic.

MadSeasonShow, I certainly agree if a content creator has no wish to reveal their face, than that is 110% a-okay. If you have no desire to ever show it, than I have no desire to ever see it.
Plus, on ocassion, I have seen that png stick figure drawing of you hitting a keyboard when talking to people. I find that to be both charming and funny. I'd say keep doing that.

I love how you're shifting content (even though when I first started watching you it was mainly wow), I'm glad you're broadening your horizons and enlightening us to how things such as social media REALLY IS and how we're perceiving it etc. Sorry, I am a little intoxicated watching. I really wish you the best, I want you to succeed because you deserve it, and I don't flippin care if you have a face reveal or not, even if some of us, myself included, are curious. I think you're correct, for the type of video essays you do a face cam wouldn't really improve the experience. If you did streaming and react content, however, things would be different. As a casual watcher of your videos and internet weirdo who doesn't use much social media (except for CZcams if that counts as such) I hope you keep your anonymity.
Interestingly, I never actually wanted to see your face. Not because I wouldn't want to (or anything in a negative context), but simply because your content for me is something like a bedtime story. And for that, I don't want to see faces. I want to listen to your soothing, monotone voice, and just let myself be emerged by the topic of the video. I often fall alseep just listening to your videos, not even watching at all (not because they're not interesting - but because it's soothing). Your strongest point is your unique style in how you storytell. Facecam wouldn't add literally any value to that at all, in context your channel is built around. Thank you for everything, I really enjoy your videos!
I don't think I ever watched a video on any channel that required a face cam, or felt the need for one when there isn't, then again I don't mind when there is one either. I watch videos for the information in it. The only time I feel the need to see the person (or a stand-in / actor for that matter) is when they explain something that requires a physical demonstration, like how to tie a tie or something like that. So depends on the content for me, and I have never even thought about Madseason not have one until now, hence it must mean it makes no difference because the content is good and the editing keeps you engaged, which I think is a very important point - the editing. So keep it up man, and I do applaud the self reflection, its something more youtubers should do. Reflect on why they do what they do, and if changing it would make a difference and why it would either positively or negatively is generally what leads to better content
I’ve wanted to make vlogs explaining a newer and easier take on music theory and songwriting I learned from my mentor. this video helped me in some of my decision making for that :) I too will keep the face a mystery and let the content speak for itself, from the bottom of my heart thank you for the amazing content that you’ve been putting out lately, it feels so honest in a world filled with dishonesty ❤

Big sigh of relief. Reading the title, I thought maybe you decided to do a face reveal. Thank you for remaining anonymous. I appreciate the face-free monotone goodness of your CZcams videos. They are perfectly entertaining without the distraction of seeing what you look like.
The best thing about the world we live in is that for the most part, you can do what you want exactly the way you want to. I know I come here on slow weekend mornings to have you in the background talking about... well, literally whatever, while I get on with my day. You having a face cam would be entirely inconsequential to my consumption of your content and I'm sure that applies to the majority who watches this channel regularly.
You made a choice and chose anonymity, and that is completely fine.
Ironically, I feel as if faceless content creators can express personality and style more into their videos than having to put up a show for the camera constantly. I prefer to watch youtubers for the content and if I learn something random about a hobby or interest of theirs every once in a while, pretty cool to me. The little bits of hand or forearm reveals amuse me, keep up the great work, Mads. :)

I've always been the type of person who doesn't get heavily invested in online communities or personalities, and I tend to split the creator and their content into two separate entities. I might not be interested at all in what the creator has to say outside of that niche interest that got me into it in the first place. I think it runs a pretty high risk of becoming unhealthy to always need to attach a 'friendly' face to everything
the solution to a lack of social relationships in life is also not to replace that with parasocial ones
I preffer to have that helm in mind than a real face

I was kind of intrigued by the thought of you doing a face reveal. I usually don't watch faceless videos. But your content is good and your avatar is sufficient to add personality to the videos. In some ways that adds more personality since you've created and animated the avatar yourself.

For me, it was always up to personal choice of the person. If they want to do a face cam, cool, if they don't, cool. Back then tho, I did have a problem of talking down those who hid behind models and stuff such as Vtubers for example, because I didn't know the significance of face cam streamers and it didn't feel definitive of what the person wants and want to fake themselves instead. Ironically, I actually grew to like these Vtubers aswell and started understanding the reasons people have for anonymousity.

I dig these more philosophical than usual videos.
Face reveals remove the degree of seperation which can cause additional downsides to both the content creator and the viewers. I'm personally in the camp which appreciates the anonymity aspect of internet more than less. Though maybe there is a middle ground where use of avatar representation of the creator can be leveraged more - in your case it's the player avatar in the iconic armour combination.

I don't know if it's because that I'm on the spectrum, but I never cared for face reveals online. It's not like I'm dating you, I'm not here to get to know you personally in real life, I'm here to interact with your online persona, the things you put forth and the subjects you discuss. It may sound cold but I think it's actually the opposite, anything else just seems similar to ad hominem to me. It's like when you invite people to your group in WoW, you don't care what their job is in real life, you care about what's actually relevant. On the internet you have a certain freedom to have people engage with the parts of you that you actually want them to engage with, and I prefer it that way. It isn't as tainted, it can be more sincere and pure and productive.

I think lacking a face cam works for the long form video essay content that you did before your break. The new videos you are putting out "react to ___" having a facecam increases your reaction to it. Also, honestly it is just free content you dont need to edit in the same classic wow trailers or video footage that's been re-used a dozen times.
