    @4:55:15 Four years, a new Star Wars TCG finally coming out (in 2024). Zach was pretty spot on!
    Will watch the Unlimited update video, and share my thoughts on it there.

    You guys should showcase this game again soon! I never gave this game a shot because I was a bit salty about the CCG being shut down, however watching you guys play it made me give it a shot (I had some cards laying around) and I really liked it a lot. I pulled the trigger on some more card on ebay soon thereafter! I recommend checking out the virtual sets and maybe building some new decks, that would be super fun to see.

    rewatching this is 2023, probably for the 5x, and still praying for that amazing Star Wars TCG throwback series! I know you're busy with store 3.0 but one can hope!! Thanks for all uploads! Im am so grateful; this video brought me out of a +10 year hiatus from this game :) now its my fav!

      According to Mark Rosewater, who assisted with the early design of this game, Richard had the conscious goal of emulating miniatures games, but with cards. As someone who cut their tabletop teeth on SWTCG this concept went completely over my head, but I appreciate it all the more in hindsight.

    I'm so glad you guys played this. I've been keeping an eye on the IDC releases and perusing all of their different and cool cards for years now, but nothing beats sitting down and actually playing the game with a friend. Seeing you guys have so much fun playing this really brought me back. Thanks for invoking those good memories. Hoping you guys will revisit this game from time to time.

    I kinda liked the deck building mechanics of the LCG, but the actual gameplay I found really clunky. Never played the TCG but it certainly looks very cool - but then it seems similar to Conquest and that's my jam.
    Gotta wonder if Destiny could have stuck around longer without the expense (and hassle for the rarest heroes) of custom dice. Maybe if they had just gone "bring your own D6s" it might still be around for a cycle or two.

      @joshuaanderson1852 Před 3 lety

      If you mean out of the deck altogether, I don’t recall this being the case, but doing so and then shuffling them into the deck after setup, as a house rule, would definitely add more options. I’d be curious to try this out!

  • @joesolo1836
    @joesolo1836 Před 2 lety

    I remember when I learned how wrong I was playing this game. My cousin(he was a few yrs older than me) “read” the rules and “taught me how to play”, and it was so wrong; IE we didn’t use dice, just applied attack values, it was bad. I do remember going to my 1st tournament and getting smoked because I was basically learning how to play on sight w/o letting on I had no idea that I didn’t know how to play(too shy) and just lucky that I always had my box of dice on me. I think I played the CCG more correct than the TCG. Taught me to read the rules for myself when learning a new game, lol. Of course, now I just find “Watch it Played” or Team Covenant” before actually reading rules.
    This game has a great flow with an interesting win condition, love it!!
    The dice change is a real struggle; roll bad, dice’s fault, toss them and get new dice!!
    I will say… I was surprised Zach didn’t start off as dark side for 1st game.
    CCG, TCG, LCG, Destiny…
    The CCG created movie scenes. It told a story, the most thematic. And, I think, the most fun(and worthwhile) if you have a couple hrs.
    The TCG was about balancing the 3 arenas, a little more area control type game. A light, quick game that felt like Star Wars.
    The LCG, I think, attempted to repeat the success of the CCG in creating those Star Wars movie-esc moments and just didn’t get there. Its biggest strength is the deck building restrictions in you have 10(or more) pods of cards that come together so you are forced to make use of inferior cards in a grander strategy. I very much enjoy the LCG but I do think it failed in what it was trying to accomplish. I also think having a “clock” on the game in the form of the Death Star countdown didn’t do the game justice. I would have rather seen a true asymmetrical game with some other win condition for the Dark Side. Or 1st to destroy X Objectives; I think 3 was reasonable given the Death Star clock but I would like to see a game get to 4(or maybe 5) objectives if we remove the Death Star clock.
    Destiny was a focused view of a duel that did itself a massive injustice with the dice mechanic. The cards have their dice chart on them anyway, just roll a generic D6. Would have been much cleaner and easier to distribute, and cheaper!! I had high hopes of this game and just didn’t live up to my expectations of a Star Wars dueling game. Though it was fun, I think I just wanted more.
    “…the 3 months during Quarantine…” that didn’t age well ☹. Though, the answer didn’t change. I watched Team Covenant play cards games for x hrs a day; sometimes live, sometimes (re)watching my favorite games.
    I would hate a Star Wars unique deck game. I’m not a fan, personally. It doesn’t feel like a card game, to me, its nothing more than a board game without a board.
    I think when FFG comes out with the next Star Wars card game, it will be a CoOp game. I just hope that both Light and Dark are playable. I would not be nearly as invested if I couldn’t play as the bad guys. I also would love to see Warhammer Conquest reskinning with Star Wars. There are plenty of Star Wars factions and rallying systems to your cause is perfect; through military force or political persuasion.
    On a similar note, I think L5R will get a 2e as a CoOp. I would love to see it similar to Marvel Champions. Pick a factions hero and a supporting Clan, that’s your card pool. Each faction also has an enemy deck along with generic “bad guys cards” that get shuffled together to form the opponent.

    In my experience, unskilled players with really bland beginner decks = massive impact of dice rolls. I'm learning a lot from this! I was one of the miffed CCG fans. But this game has some real strengths.

    I loved this one. I still have a crap load from every set❤️
    I haven’t played in years, but I’ve always wanted to turn it into a one round game. One long battle. Maybe double the starting build points. A custom build die(d10)that starts at three up to twelve.
    Start with five force and earn five per turn. Just an idea I’d like to try out🤷🏾‍♂️
    What’s cool is that you can play one arena games too👍🏻
    Character vs Character fights are cool.

    Looks like a fun game, thanks for showing! I think the whole ccg vs tcg argument most likely comes down to which game you played first. I know I would have liked the TCG after watching it played, but the CCG definitely looks more thematic. There is just something to be said about locations you can move to, like in the LOTR game. Just feels good. Plus something about drawing one card a turn is so dated now and always feels limiting. What's the point of building a deck you see only half the cards of? Still the point about both strategy and tactics can't be over valued. A game that has both is rare (CCG had it too I think, but the mismatches could really through it off).
    The TCG looks better than Destiny and I tend to agree with Steven on the LCG. That'd be fun to see Battletech CCG, I loved that game. Didn't realize it was a Garfield one too. Definitely one of the best designers ever!

    Newbie question - just learning.
    After choosing sides and drawing your initial hand of 7;
    And concluding a single mulligan step exchanging let's say 2 (non-unit) cards as an example;
    During the setup of building, you encounter a situation where your hand of cards is unable to exceed your opponents point value? What happens?
    So you play a few units each - draw replacements - but then luck out and only redraw battle/mission cards. Does the 20 or so build points you would have remaining just disappear, and you stop stuck with a hand full of non-unit cards?
    Perhaps statistically unlikely scenario, but useful knowledge all the same.

    Thank you so much for making this video! I’m 3/5 hours in and loving it. My cousin and I had tons of these and played for several years. I still have them all. My favorite cards are the Death Star and I also have the same rare preview Darth Vader card! I stopped about halfway through the sets’ production because I was a teenager and ran out of money lol. Now I can’t find them cheap enough but really want to build out the rest of my collection. It’s hard to when they cost astronomically more than regular MTG cards. I wish WotC would reprint these! With the recent announcement of them becoming their own division and moving into more licensed content, I will hold out hope. Anyways thanks again, you earned a new subscriber!

    • @teamcovenant
      @teamcovenant  Před 4 lety

      When a unit with Retaliate is attacked, it can roll its Retaliate value in dice back at the attacker. So if you have Retaliate 6 and you're attacked, you can roll 6 dice in response (after the attack is over)!
      Meditate means the following: "You may play this card from the discard pile without paying the printed cost. When this card would be discarded, remove it from the game instead."

    @jamesknowles9236 Před rokem +1

    That 1st game just highlighted why this game sucked so bad. The fact that only certain cards can go into certain arenas was a horrible design. It made it too easy to get completely shut out of the game due to not drawing enough of the right cards. The units should've been able to be deployed to any arena. Perhaps give them some sort of penalty for being in the "wrong" arena, but that least you'd have a chance.
