Honest, hard working, so knowledgeable. Thank you sir for taking the time to make these videos! I only wish you the best. I've learned so much in just a few weeks from him. 1 - change adaptive cruise control to non-adaptive by holding down the cruise control on button for 3 seconds; 2 - press start button 3 times rapidly to emergency shut off the engine; 3 - dealer can customize number of lane change flashes and cancel the seat belt chime; on some cars, dealer can turn on auto windows down when pressing unlock button on remote; 4 - many Toyotas have remote start by pressing lock, lock, looock on the remote; 5 - infotainment system is described by year it was released, not year of vehicle. Hold "Mode" button on steering wheel to mute infotainment system.

      To be fair, if you have an 03 Toyota (my dad got my 06 Camry new), ours aren't "modern" enough to have these features. I had however heard neutral was your best bet when there was hype about runaway Toyota's... And the company curiously abandoned the slogan Keep Moving Forward

    Another feature that few know about is that you can turn off the key fob, at least on 2019 and newer Corolla (probably all modern Toyota's). It has a battery saving mode that, when activated, will turn the fob off which also prevents anyone from picking up the signal from it to unlock and steal your car. Simply press and hold down the Lock button and, while holding it down, press Unlock two times. The key fob is not turned off and you will not be able to open or start your car with it. To turn the fob back on just press any button once.

      @larryjackson9037 Před 3 měsíci +24

      Would you mind editing your next to last sentence? I believe that you meant to say "The key fob is now turned off . . ." instead of "The key fob is not turned off . . ." ? ;)

      I thought they could only get your code when you are actually unlocking the car. Then at night they come and take the car.

    • @FindLiberty
      @FindLiberty Před 3 měsíci

      @@vapeking466 Turning off the remote does more than just saving its battery from unnecessary power drain, it improves security by disabling an exploit vector!
      Don't try this at home, but I think this is how it works: They can use a device to send a STRONG signal to your remote (that's inside you home?) and trick it into sending a response (as if it's outside and very close to the car). The remote sends a unique "key code" signal that's captured by the device.
      The thief uses the device to re-send this recorded signal to the car. The car responds by sending the other half of the unique handshake response and it's ready to unlock the doors as soon as a hand is detected at the door handle. They've recorded this complete unique smartkey RF code handshake exchange on both frequencies for THIS session that the car thief can use to unlock, start the car, and drive it away.
      They will have to deal with the immobilizer and begin a procedure for, "all keys lost" once the car is turned off since those codes do change automatically. The VIN and owner name and address is probably in the car and they may attempt to spoof Toyota into sending the reset codes needed to program new smart key(s) for the car. Once reported, Toyota and Police can work together to locate the car.
      It's interesting how this security feature turns in to a vulnerability nightmare that contributes to a shortage of those smart key fobs and of course, stolen cars.

    I think that Toyota makes the remote start complicated as a safety feature. When there is a dedicated button on the remote, it can be pressed by mistake in your pocket, purse etc. Imagine parking the car in the garage, and car started by mistake. On my Gen1 Sequoia, I could open and close the front windows and sunroof with the key in the drivers door. I loved that feature, and used in often. Not so my Gen3 Prius.
    One thing I did have modified on the Prius: disabling the reverse beeper. The one that beeps continuously while you’re in reverse. Raising your heart rate and stress level. Had to have the dealer do it.

      There is/was a sequence to kill the backup beep for the Gen2 (~'04) Prius, and I loved it and always kept a copy on my PC in case the car got reset by the dealer, like when the 12v battery was replaced!

    Excellent content as always. I bought a new Toyota in Barbados last August. The manual said you the dealer has to program the feature to open/close all windows from the remote. I love that feature which I had in my previous car but I don't want to pay a dealer to enable it. Why it isn't so from the factory is crazy. Also thought it ridiculous that there is no mute button so I'm very glad to hear holding the mode button for 3 secs mutes the radio. Thanks for your priceless information!

    I love cruise control, and especially adaptive cruise control. I love it so much that I will use it on my way to the corner store half a mile away from my house. My only gripe about adaptive is that when the car in front of me takes an exit or changes into a turn lane and brakes, my truck doesn't recognize that the obstacle is no longer a threat until they are completely out of my lane which leads to hard braking.

      Yes that is annoying. Takes awhile to get back up to speed.

      When a car drives for you, you might forget you’re the one who is supposed to brake.. I don’t care for the adaptive so do the bypass always

    It actually depends on which car/ trim for the remote start button thingy. My XSE Corolla hatchback remote start will ONLY work when you have the subscription active. Using the fob 3 button press method will not work but does work on lower trims without needing a subscription 🤦‍♂️Nvm you just gotta hold the button on the 3rd click for a ridiculously long time

    2022 4Runner TRD Offroad Premium - Canada: key fob remote start does not work without a subscription. And count me as someone who can't stand adaptive cruise - day 3 of ownership I was flipping through the manual on how to turn it off.

      I just got a 2018 es350 and it's also $80 a yr for remote start and door lock unlock on your cell. Rediculous! As for the cruise I don't understand it yet coming from a 06 Lexus is250 it's totally different it seems.

    It's dangerous to use cruise control in wet or snowy weather, so the adaptive system is actually doing you a favor by switching off.

    The only ones I knew about were the auto shut off and the hidden remote start feature. I think Toyota doesn't have a dedicated remote start button on the fob because they want people to subscribe to the app. The app also eliminates the range limitation to using the fob. Personally, I'm not a fan of the subscription model so I don't have the connected services anymore but I also don't use the auto start feature anyway. An idling car takes forever to warm up so I typically just get in and drive nicely (don't floor it or anything) for about a minute. It heats up WAY faster when the engine is under load so I find idling is just a waste of fuel and might be unnecessary wear on the vehicle (cars run rich when cold).

    And, you are so awesome. My wife's 3.3 Sienna (05), and my daughters 05 RX330 are doing just fine at 190,000 plus miles each, so no newer Toyota's in the plans right now, but I really love your videos.

    Another good tip not mentioned here is how to restart radio/infotainment while car is on. Press and hold the radio power button for ~5ish seconds.
    Has worked on my 21 Prius and Tacoma. Sometimes Apple car play doesn’t want to work while driving. A quick restart fixes it easily.
