It's disappointing to see Savoie leave, but McLeod's speed aligns perfectly with Lindy's style of play. The Oilers have acquired an excellent prospect who is likely to be called up mid-season and make an immediate impact. Meanwhile, the Sabres already have a wealth of similar talent. Hopefully, this trade will prove beneficial for both teams.

Sabres fan , I was definitely taken back by this trade. Until listening to this video . Buffalo has a serious face off issue and hearing a 58% win at the dot changed my mind as this is what we need plus his size is also a plus . Savoie was a small player with definate up swing but we have plenty of small skilled players . Watching the playoffs made me realize that even if we had made it this year we would have got steam rolled . We bulked up and added grit. Judt need our skilled players we had to find that mark of 2 seasons ago

Personally, I'm glad to see GMKA willing to part with a prospect like Savoie, in order to get better now.
Even if they don't think so today, Buffalo fans will love McLeod who is a smart perimeter player with a high hockey IQ that plays fast, defensive minded hockey.
It's safe to add McLeod's name to the list including Malenstyn and Aube-Kubel; additions, whom Rob Ray and Dan Dunleavy won't be able to shut up about this season.

Matt Savoie was going to play in Rochester this season. Tullio will take his spot now and Lindy Ruff gets himself a 3C.
Ruff and Adams have given this team a new identity, fast, tough and defensive minded.
McLeod stands 6'3'' near 200lbs and plays a better game off the puck than most prospects play on the puck.
His hockey IQ and abilities to play the perimeter, locate open space and get there; opens the ice for his teammates.
He kills penalties and forces more turnovers than any DB Terry Pegula pays on the Buffalo Bills.
The top 10 pick you're having difficulty coping with trading away hasn't developed into an NHL player.
They traded for a top 50 pick in McLeod who was selected 9th overall in the 2nd round.
The difference, one round and one has already developed into a quality 30PT producer at the pro level.
The team hasn't made the playoffs in 13 seasons, so the GM and HC put together a roster via a draft day trade, free agency and now trading a prospect for a player who is a proven NHL'er and playoff point producer who just tallied 4G in 24 playoff games and wasn't on the ice for a goal against.
      That's BAD😂

Even if you perceive there being long term value with McLeod, why should you overpay this badly? Sure, he’s an RFA next offseason so he’s not going anywhere and maybe you think he can be a really important piece of your franchise going forward. This doesn’t make sense though. Savoie is way too good to give up for McLeod, and unless McLeod becomes a 60+ point 2C, Bufallo will severely regret this. Sure, there’s obviously a chance Savoie doesn’t pan out, but all signs point towards him becoming a top half of the lineup player and potentially a superstar talent.

Savoie would’ve got maybe 10 games this year. I didn’t expect him to make the team out of training camp. They needed to get better for this season. Yes, Savoie has tremendous upside but how far in the future is that going to be?

@cmills-fl4gn they won't make the playoffs this season anyhow, Ryan McLeod certainly won't be the difference in getting them there. This just hurts the Sabres long-term, helping to cement them as a perennial bottom feeder. Savoie has MUCH higher upside and is the far more talented player. McLeod can skate fast, that's literally it. Poor passer, poor defensively, lacks finish.
