- This Factory Five Mk4 Roadster is a Shelby Cobra replica that (~$80,000 CAD, $64,652 USD converted) makes no apologies for being a loud, dangerous and unruly machine of pure driver engagement. Handbuilt by the owner, a gentleman named Rolf, and powered by a thunderous 427 Stroker V8, 520 horsepower explodes out the side-exit exhausts and straight into your eardrums. It also weighs only 2250 pounds. But what is it like to drive? And what happens if you put your foot down? Watch to find out! SUBSCRIBE!!!

Let me get this straight. I get BEATEN UP. And then almost thrown off the road by the car. And then humiliated at the end. And y’all are laughing and subscribing. Where’s HR
Know your role Lol
You'll be alright man. Not many people can say they drove a Cobra. RIP Voicebox though 😂😂😂😂
We are your HR
Hey this car sent you into puberty, that’s a plus😆
Hey your voice cracked and you’re probably growing hair on your naughty bits now James. It’s time we had a talk about what it means to become a man.
Honestly was expecting the review to start with something like
-"Hello, I'm Thomas!"
-"And I'm scared!"
© that shit! 😄
That just made my laugh😂

"If everything seems under control, you're not going fast enough" - Mario Andretti
Not to ruin the joke, but it was Parnelli Jones who said that. You never know if drivers are serious when they say stuff like that, though. Sometimes it's just a psyche. But in this case, I think Jones was referring to the original Trans-Am cars in particular, which were a bit crude and unwieldy even by the standards of the 1960s. IIRC, Jones won a T-A race at Riverside, in which he actually passed at least one car by going off-track into the dirt (not grass -- desert dirt and rocks). Only a Trans-Am car or a NASCAR 'stock car' was robust enough to do that sort of thing. I guarantee you he didn't drive Indy cars in the way he described. He would not have lived out a single season, maybe not a single race, at 180MPH between concrete walls or ARMCO barriers, with essentially no driver protection whatsoever.
*Hell naw*
HALELUJA!!!
I just finished mine. Got it registered and inspected today. Put 60 miles on it today. So many thumbs up and smiles. It's the most amazing car I've ever driven, and I built it!
That’s fantastic joshua! Hope you’re having fun with it!
His long did it take?!
@@deankruse2891 I received my kit December 2019 and it was registered June of 2021. I could have been done sooner, but I moved during that time and was unable to work on the car for about 3 months. Also, the DMV was a huge delay due to the coronavirus. They say it takes about 400 hours to complete the kit. If you're interested, check out the build school that Mott community college offers. You go from bare frame to driving car in 3 days. Granted, it's not an accurate depiction of what it's like to put one together yourself. Let me know if you are planning to build one, and I can give you plenty of tips that I learned along the way.
what was the final cost of all the parts?
@@paulleatham6830 Mine was $40k before paint and body work. If you have the correct mustang for donor parts, you could build it for less that $15k. It's all based on what you have, how much work you're willing to do outside of your build, and what options you want.
The entire history of james in the channel is him trying to get back Jessica....and I love it

@@mybugatti100 that's the mystery
Now I'm picturing James in a tree outside her house. "That is Jessica and I'm James. Welcome to Extra Creepy Throttle House."

Jessica is the reason James left England for Canada
In this episode: James becomes a man.
Sounded more like an eunuch to me 18:25
Well, not really sure if that is possible for either of them. Classic Low T symptoms.
James becomes AMERICAN
Best one yet!

I built my Factory Five (Mk III) 17 years ago. Pretty much everything y'all said about it is spot on, it is a hairy chested, loud, fast, and scary car. When out for a drive kids stop what they are doing and stare, women run to protect their children, and men stand at attention with a hand over their heart. With that said, I never tire of driving it, in fact, I watch my weather app year-round looking for the next 'Cobra day.' After some 70K miles I could tell stories for hours... Countless challenges by other drivers on the street, all but one of which I declined (but it was epic.) The five state, two day, 1000 mile rally I entered where rain poured for an entire day. I was soaked to the core and white knuckling the wood steering wheel through the entire state of Georgia, hydroplaning and oversteering all the way. While in this car I was 'hit on' by a pretty woman, the only time that has happened to me in more than 20 years. It is a raw, visceral, engaging car that you take seriously or die. It is a time machine, a dream maker. It is wonderful.
Thanks for sharing and you're a legend and a braver man than I to put 70k on it!!
I'm glad you drove it! It's my dream car.
I can’t wait to build one myself. It’ll be a while until I’ll have time and financially secure enough to start building one and I can’t wait. I’ll put it on my last will and testament along with any other cars I might build.

Beautiful car and most of all I LOVE how Factory Five has fro decades taken the stigma away from "kit car" and allowed people to enjoy theses classic designs and to be able to drive them ! Collectors can still have their beloved garage Queen but these cars are for driving fans
Built a MK3, best project of my life. Time in the garage with family cannot be beat.
Many many years ago when I was a younger I was working as a telephone repair tech and I still remember it as if it was yesterday...a middle aged woman backed out of a garage in an actual right hand drive AC Cobra right next to the pole I was working on. She pulled out slowly towards the main road, looking both ways quickly, and then matted it. Elevensies right down the road as I watched with my mouth hanging open...she caught second and chirped the tires then was gone. I could still hear the car for quite some time after she left as she was blasting along a curvy shoreline road heading towards the nearest town. About 45 minutes later I heard the car coming back...as she pulled in the driveway she smiled and waved, grabbed her bag of groceries and went into the house. Yes, I kid you not, she was using it as a grocery getter. Even the people who don't own a Cobra have stories to tell about Cobras.
I promise you, even people that don't know about Cobras or what they are... have stories about Cobras.
I seriously doubt the same type of stories will be recounted when a self righteous Karen nearly runs you over rushing to Starbucks in between soccer games in her Tesla plaid
I mean if you gotta get groceries you might as well have some fun along the way.
Great story!! Any idea who the lady was? Curious minds want to know... ;)
Well if I owned a Cobra I'd use it for the same thing, it has a trunk and is capable of going from A to B easily, so why not use it to efficiently visit friends or grab Cosmic Brownies? We can go to the track another day.
This looks absolutely TERRIFYING. Gimme one 😭
LMAO!! My thoughts exactly!

You guys really made me feel like I was experiencing the Cobra first hand. The humor put it over the top--one of the best car reviews I've watched. Great job.
Proud owner of a F5 MK2 Roadster. Let me tell you: everything these guys are saying: completely true. It is a literal "legal race car" and gets people smiling and waving like you cannot believe. Owned mine just about two years, and that V8 rumble is just breathtaking. Anytime I have a rough day, I get in, strap down, turn that key, and smile like a child; I absolutely love driving it.
Do yourself a favor and get one.
The owner has nailed the spec. Brilliant.
James starts the day as a young man and ends as a senior citizen.
Zowweee!!
Hahaha
When I was a kid there was a guy in my neighborhood that had either an original or a very nice kit car. The car was an absolute monster, and when stopped at a red light next to him you would feel the cam lope in your body while sitting in your car, even with the windows up. I always wanted to know what it was like to basically drive around on a gigantic high HP motor with some seats strapped to it.....lol.
Love this. Just the right amount of making fun of yourselves without it being for the camera. So genuine
One of the top 5 most beautiful vehicles ever built, the owner spec’d this one perfectly.
I like them in blue with white stripes, but that’s just my opinion
I like them with the original wheel and tire package. Looks absolutely criminal to not use it.
Was driving behind one yesterday...what a car! Tried to stay behind it for as long as possible. The looks, the sound..the presence. Cobras are forever!
I agree 100%, I am 57 and have loved these since i was a little boy. I am planning a trip to Ultimate Classic Cars in Texas and hope to buy a kit within a few months.
Im sure if you speced it you would have done at least something differently
5:59 No lie thats the fiercest downshift i have EVER heard. Sounds like a fucking lion.
Yeah, and not metaphorically... it actually sounds like a fucking lion! What an amazing car.
I had to replay it a few times, the sheer roar
No joke, my seven year old son came running in my room after that and said he heard something. I asked him what it sounded like, he said it was like a lion roaring. I had the pleasure of looking him in the eye and telling him "Son, that's no lion... that's a Shelby Cobra." LOL He was totally into it after that.

I've wanted one for years. Over those years, nothing but improvements with modern engineering added. They're better than ever. I've seen so many different videos about them too. And on that subject... y'all take the lead outright. Closest thing to a real experience with your driving situations along with what appears to be from the heart commentary. I know this wasn't intended as advertising the Cobra but personally, I want one even more after watching this. My commenting is done, guess what's next..... I'm going to Factory Five online to check 'em out... thanks guys...
I hate to point out an error, however all original AC Cobras had independent suspension with Salisbury rear-ends. The 289's had leaf springs and the 427's had coil overs.
Yep thank you our mistake! We’ve edited the video to remedy it but CZcams takes like 7 hours to show the fix

Been in love with Cobras since I first saw one in the 60s. Way too purpose-built for Detroit marketing dudes and beancounters.. I'm glad there's a hardcore group of people who still love them like I do.
With out a doubt the most entertaining 427Cobra review I’ve ever watched!! You two guys are hysterically funny while capturing the true feel and exhilaration of owning and driving this truly legendary automotive bombshell of a car. There’s nothing like and most likely will never be! Great job!
Don’t give a shit - I am buying one in a few years as a retirement present to myself….
Love that energy
...and there are plenty of ways to tone the car down. You'd be fine using the old modular 4.6L, very smooth, solid 300hp for instance. But that's the cool thing about FFR Cobras, you can do whatever you want!!
No one said you shouldn't.
Each car has a niche to fill, was built to fill a specific need. Those needs don't always include comfort or practicality. You want a vintage race car that is wholly impractical, then get it, no one is telling you not to, no matter how much you want to feel like you're bucking convention.
This car isn't for me, but even with different priorities a guy like me can see the appeal of a fast, light, powerful, and downright beautiful car that is a snapshot of auto history. Shelby didn't give a damn for comfort or practicality, he built a race car, a fast and loud monster. So go play with your expensive race car and pretend you're being persecuted over it.
Get it now start the build then it will be ready and reveal it at your retirement party
Get one and drop in a 5.0. Might cost 10k but it’ll never die
James' face when he floored it and the back end got loose....priceless. The face of pure terror.
shaked his head and said no no you cant. I played it back several times had me rolling.

A lot of this video resonates with why I love riding super sport motorcycles. It's so incredibly thrilling. The feeling of freedom and connection with the road is just unparalleled, and it's just all around spectacular. At that, it absolutely comes with incredible danger, and there were a couple times I nearly cost myself my life while doing things at speeds I shouldn't have been doing. I ended up selling my bike and got a truck to replace it, but God willing, I'm gonna get another one to replace it real soon. It's a thrill like no other.

I have never driven an ACR Viper but I HAVE driven a FF Cobra with a very healthy 351W and it was NO JOKE....a car that was just waiting to kill you at any opportunity where your attention wandered for more than a tic.....
Randy Pobst said the ACR puts the power down better than a GTS or TA Viper so compared to a regular Viper it should feel much more planted and neutral.
@@aryaahmadi4029 YES. The ACR puts down the power & grip better than most, but this little light weight over powered machine would be wilder & more out-of-control. Not necessarily faster around a track.
@@barrydraper Absolutely right. It takes a Formula1/Indie car driver to get the max out of a Cobra. (in my opinion)
My family owns a Shelby Cobra, my god is the clutch heavy and stiff. I drove it once after the clutch was upgraded and made lighter and my foot was still dying. Car is very loud, beautiful, and fast. Love the car
These are unapologetic in an era of apologies. That alone makes these special and holy. Add all the rest, and they and the people who own and pilot them are well deserving of all the attention they receive.
I love Factory Five. Watching build progress threads on forums and CZcams, dreaming and making choices on how you would hypothetically build yours, shopping for drivetrains. I have that kind of personality where I hyperfixate and have mentally worked out what I would do on countless project cars, and Factory Five is like cocaine for the obsessed car guy brain. Someday, Someday.
Oh yes.
I'm not the only one then! I've spent countless hours in car configurators messing with options.

Fantastic. I owned one for several years. On a slightly damp road it would spin the rear wheels in 5th gear at 60mph. Kept you on your toes.
Several years ago, my girlfriend and I spent some time detailing a Factory Five Cobra. Same drivetrain as the one here. The owner (I don’t know why) let me test drive it. Scared the SHIT out of me.

Beautifully shot review and thought provoking.
And the last 30 seconds are good fun.
It was 1965 and I was a spectator at a mid-California autocross event with mostly MGs, TRs, Healeys, Corvette type of cars competing. Then comes rolling in from the LA area was a black 289 Cobra towing a race prepared black 289 Cobra with Webers. Fastest car that day and won everything. At end of the end of the day the owner hooked up his race prepared Cobra to his tow car Cobra and drove off into the sunset. Absolutely floored what I witnessed that day and am not surprised over 60,000 Cobra replicas have been constructed since then.
