Perfect crew: Emelin - Every meal she cooks is exquisite, also has good farming. Daniel - No combat, but can do every other task, research insight bonus. I take him over Krista as I find him not having combat to be a non-issue compared to her inability to craft anything, he also gets research insight. Rakha - 3x building on buildings and devices. Ken - High combat, gains happiness from death whether its taking care of aggressive animals or hunting, as well as double scrap. As soon as you hit the ground, assign Emelin as your only cook, observe graincob and buttermelon and start farms for both. Build a small building that houses enough rooms for each survivor to have one 3x4 room each out of wood. Harvest skinbark. Make skinbark beds in each room. Set Ken to salvage and hunting primary, Rakha construction/cutting/mining, and have Daniel research construction, and observe things. Having meat, grain, and buttermelon, along with a cooking stove, 3x4 rooms, and skinbark beds will give you the best happiness per day that you'll be able to get for a while, and you'll get it before the end of summer if you focus on that path. You'll get exquisite meal happiness bonus from Emelin on every meal she makes no matter what it is, food variety bonus for having multiple types, you can make the tasty meal buttermelon pie which if eaten gives a tasty meal bonus, you get the best private room bonus you can get, and comfy bed bonus. Be sure to make a variety of food, and make more varieties as available as well as multiple forms of relaxation things. Some people like punching poles or target practice, and will get happiness boosts from their favorite relaxation or food, which it lists in their profile.
The issue with Ken for you is managing his happiness, but thats every survivor, really. The reason you want double scrap isn't because you make things out of scrap, its because later after unlocking furnaces, you'll chew through metal making metal alloy, and having double scrap gives you double metal alloy when you use it for smelting, basically doubling the amount of metal you can manufacture, which become a big issue later after you salvage all the close available ship pieces and ore, depending on how resource scarce your seed is. I've personally never had an issue with Ken melting down any more or less than any of the other survivors with no mood modifiers, but I have had issues running low or out of metal after getting to the point of everything requiring metal alloy to build or repair with.

Ken and Rahka are always crying. Daniel is only good for suiciding into a nest (he is always unhappy due to pain). Emelin who needs a cook who cooks slowly.. even if she cooks nice food..
@@MegaRugster Really never had any of those issues. Also, if you specialize your people into only one or two things, they rank up their skills quickly and then they aren't slow in it. Judging by the fact that all your people are constantly unhappy or crying, you might find doing things that way helpful since its a quick and easy way to mitigate unhappiness by a great extent at the beginning, that carries over through the whole game as well as adding onto future happiness bonuses, such as favorite food, creature comfort, etc. Its a solid large baseline happiness that doesn't decrease in amount.
Take Nova instead of Daniel. When you get the exploration quest send her back and make her a genius.
I never had Ken meltdown on me before just have the punching bag and scheduling and activities according to his preferences and it will be fine. His scavenging skill is extremely useful mid and late game cuz you're to going use alloys out the wazoo.
yeah I have no idea what the hell this dude is talking about with Ken. He has no inherent mood penalties.
The only thing I can think of is maybe he's bad at scheduling. Since Ken tends to get stuck on expeditions or scavenging his sleep schedule can get messed up really easily. If you're lazy about giving him time to recover it can seem like he is moody. But he is literally no worse than anyone else in the exact same position.
Though I will give the video some credit. At least he threw that wack-ass "stop using scrap" opinion out early so everything else could be judged with a grain of salt.
Once people figure out how to play and how to survive, unless they just enjoy an easy win - over and over - the challenge is to survive and thrive with even the "worst" people on even the "worst" seed. Perhaps, a more realistic situation where nothing is cherry picked.
Yes, people will eventually figure out how to play and crush the game. Judging by most of the CZcams videos I've seen that might be a while. My guide is for people trying to learn to start with some good people and a good seed. They can start with and wherever they choose and with whatever modifiers they want. Hope you're enjoying the game and it's not too easy for you.
i played 200 hours. i have 3 cups left. good suggestions. my opinion, the right thing to do in defense is that they should not see you at the beginning of the attack. If they see you, they will come towards you without turning to the traps. from everywhere, from every direction. Let them start attacking, don't show yourself to them. Agro is very important in this game, hide if necessary :)
RATE-TODAY is an excellent seed especially for constructing Fortified walls you build inbetween to rock formations a you can then build 2 L shape Walls leaving the gap/pathway through 1 of the rock formations which will tempt bugs to go that way... Easy to defend.

Agreed on Ken! Don’t like to play with him. I always choose Ember, she is great.
If you want stuff to get done fast, Laara, Talas, and Paulette are your best bets. Laara and Talas both have 25% faster movement and task completion, while Paulette has 50% task completion and no negative trait. She's just indifferent to combat, so just don't use her to hunt.
Pick a good researcher like Krista or Daniel (both of whom get insight bonuses), and you should be able to pound everything out at breakneck speed. The crafting and building won't be quite as fast as those with specific bonuses to things like particular kinds of crafting or such, but it's really good and it applies across everything they do.
So long as you've got a good layout and a proper assignment of tasks, you should never fall behind in production.
Emelin is alright to swap out with Laara if you find happiness a problem, but other than that, I never have any issues.

The best character is Nova...never meltdown and high combat, healing skills.
You are correct Nova is the bomb. I am using her in my hard run right now. Check out the series. No meltdowns, who doesn't want that. VERY reliable. Thanks for watching.
I know this is dated now. Just a random Hard start but VISUAL-STRESS seed is one of the best I have found so far. Only thing I havent found is chew root (and I have Laara). As far as survivors go. I always take Ken. No real reason. But I marry him to Nova (you can make her genius every time with the exploration quest pretty sure she gets the inspiration bonus since the other genius gets it too.) and theyre both 90+ happiness all the time. I seem to get Conner as a find every map. He dies from his implant though so... I like Rita and Katina. Traits do matter most. But I have tried many combinations. High beginning stats dont matter too much. Interested matters more. Ken can get to 10 crafting pretty quickly (starts at 1). 8 is most important since its when you make 2.0 sniper. Also pretty sure Vivien does ALL tailoring 4x faster including Carbon. I Just know I found her in a play through and it was the only time I ever had all my armors made. But I would never take her first four. But my top 10 would be Nova (number one easily; she is 10 combat, 10 heal, 10 int, and 10 phys by year 3 without having any INTERESTED skills), Quinn, Ken, Katina, Laara, Rita, Emelin, Naras, Rakha (despite gloomy) and Paulette.
@@nailas.1385 I built down by the little lake. I havent see any animals spawn up on the plateau. I am sure aggressive animals can scale that wall. Right now landscape no issue in terms of defense. Build walls leave an opening for them to come through have that opening covered with guns and traps.
@@nailas.1385 there are two spawn points down there basically. NE and S/SE. I have missle launchers set up so they can hit them.

always laara seed. i have one where you start in a mountain pass. super fun.
Poor choices imo RICE-STAGE Everything nearby plus loads of stone for building with. Best group to start with is Katina, Laara, Samantha and Vivian. If you want faster research, build 4 research tables. All opinions are subjective of course.. you might not like building with stone or approach the game in a different way. Your first three choices, I never use.
Laara - Faster movement and manipulation.
Sam - Builds turrets faster
Vivian - Can craft for 10 survivors.
Katina - Excellent Medic, makes a great backup farmer and Researcher.
By year 3 Expeditions can give you upto 9 survivors on this map. I didn't save scum so only got 7. Got Sora, Naras and Rakha.

I built my farms on 100%. Don't need a lot of farm land to play this game. That's what everyone else is doing wrong.

Was looking for a unique place not on web. For me building a lot with wood, not ideal. Not enough wood till you plant and I build fast. Still nice place though.

Also...that is a crap seed. There are dozens of seeds with a better variety of resources much, much closer to the crash site, and that have walk-in survivors the first week. This seed is kinda crap.
I made this video almost 3 months ago. At the time there were no good seeds to find on internet. I'm sure there are better seeds available now. Instead of calling that seed crap(which it isn't), post some seeds and why they are good.
