So if you're roughly the same age as me, you'll remember a time when Blackberries were the phone to have. Everyone seemed to have one, and the topic was iPhone vs Blackberry, rather than iPhone vs Android as it is today. However, 11 years after its heyday, I tried using the blackberry curve in 2022. HUGE mistake and many an hour wasted trying to get this relic of the past to function as a modern device. Some pieces of tech are better left in memories...

The Blackberry Bold 9700 was the first smartphone and grown up purchase I made when I first started working…I was 20 years old at the time and it was literally my favorite phone ever! I still have mine for sentimental reasons😅

Blackberry 9900 was the best phone. I was 12 when I got until 15 when I moved to iPhone. Of course now it might feel ancient but when I was a teenager, this was the best phone for messaging as everybody had it in Europe. I’m 22 now, feels like a long time ago

Love how this person is roasring a phone that was really amazing though. It does how quick tech has evolved and changed. The blackberry still has the best typing experience of all phones to this day. I used my blackberry key two to blind type entire essays at uni just 3 years ago. It is unbeatable. Also without blackberry and bbpin, there would be no smartphones with airdrop and messenger function the way we enjoy it today.

I liked the ones with the white pearl tracking ball, even though it would wear out after sometime lol. The way it glowed with the light in the dark. The keyboard and the letters in the emails and text messages were very clear, very well defined.

I still use my Blackberry Bold for calls and texts (in and out) using a very reliable standard sim. Although it connects to wifi I switch it off because I use a tablet for internet stuff and document reading and writing. I find the keyboard easy to use with two fingers but it has in built instant speed and voice dialling plus voice notes anyway. I has an extremely simple to use alarm system that I use every day. It easily lasts 7 days on one charge because the slip case has an auto standby that power saves whilst keeping all the functions alive. As the battery is removable and I have a fully charged spare I never have 'charger anxiety'. Its in lovely condition and everyone wants to look at it when I use it. As it weighs about 4 ounces (100g) it fits unnoticed in my pocket. I never spend more than £30 per year for unlimited calls and texts.

i had one back in primary school as a hand me down from my sister, i'd get her previous phone whenever she upgraded, and in 2012, i got the Curve 8520, absolutely horrible now, but back then, that thing was amazing.
i used to message family etc on Blackberry Messenger, sad i don't own that curve anymore would've been funny to see what was on it from 8 year old me lol.
also, i think it didn't work because your sim card might be too new, i haven't had a new sim card since like the end of 2019 so it still works in older devices.

The phone still works with my 4G sim card but the only reason I stopped using it this January is because the BB servers went offline meaning no BB ID meaning no Blackberry Hub - which was an amazing tool consolidating all your notifications into one and reply from there etc.

Mistake ? :-) OK - If you don't know, how to handle BB 10.....
    One of my BB's - a Q10 - had a big software problem.
    Could not bot up anymore.....
The main problem i had after killing it with an autoloader:
All my local contacts where lost, because it was running with a BB-ID.
So, i could not use any of my backups.... because of BB-ID.
I did not watch BB's "D-Day" - so, no backups to use.
    No problem:
set it up new - run the screenreader - everything's fine.
Installed playstore again - because of my old app's.
Installed other browsers, because of limited access from the native browser.
Installed the exFat driver and all other stuff, i needed.
Running now a san disk 1 Terrabyte - without problems..
    ect. ect. ect.
Btw: BlackBerry HUB is still a wonderful part of BB 10 !
    About: Android !
As long as possible, i don't buy any android phone!
    Horror PUR !
Going from BB 10 to Android is just like going from XP prof to everything after XP ! un-logical horror!

I remember using Nokia phones with 9 dial keyboards and Samsung phones with touch screen keyboards that did not understand every touch input I made. It changed after iPhone successfully put a good touch screen, and when Samsung started to ditch Baidu for Android, Blackberry began to decline.
