  • Running way over budget and schedule, the Sydney Opera House opened in 1973. From the initial design, here the stories of the many changes, problems and comments made by people right up to its opening and beyond, in this 60th year its construction was ordered to begin (back in 1958).
    Today, the building comprises multiple performance venues which together host well over 1,500 performances annually, attended by more than 1.2 million people. More than 8 million people visit it each year of whom 350,000 take the guided tour of this now iconic building.
    On the 28th June 2007, the Sydney Opera House became a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
