I've been lucky enough to watch extended highlights of the Leeds game at Hampden and George Connelly was a surprising stand out. Why he never started the final is a mystery.
Ah George - for me the greatest of the Quality Street Kids. Those five - George, Kenny Dalglish, Davie Hay, Lou Macari and the incomparable Danny McGrain - should have been the core of a European dynasty. Sadly, for one reason or another, it was not to be. His name may be lost in the mists of time to the current generation of Celtic fans but those of us who were privileged to see him will never forget him. He was, in the old Irish saying, class in a glass! 🇮🇪💚🇮🇪
I appreciate that some of the tawdrier suppositions weren’t brought up, but GC is tragic reminder that these players are human with real human issues. We always expect a 10/10 performance and effort, especially now with the wages, but life isn’t binary.
These are wonderful compositions, particularly this one. You deserve many more subscribers.
Respect to George 💚

Always remember my Da telling me what a great player he was.
Would love to have seen the lad play. 👍

A big loss at the time. Connelly was a real class player.
How ironic that the player standing next to him in the photo was another wasted talent in Andy Ritchie.
Would love to know the story behind it all, probably never know but one thing is for sure the mans talent was never in doubt.
George’s autobiography is a brilliant read - Celtic’s Lost Legend, written with Bryan Cooney.
@@P4ddyBh0y Thanks, will give that a read.
