In this demo featuring Meg from PMT Portsmouth, we see and hear how the DR-01s adds an entirely new dynamic to your acoustic playing, allowing you to choose from a selection of different percussion instruments and sculpt an entire backing track instantly.
This highly portable unit is more than just a drum machine, but an entire studios worth of percussive instruments. You can choose up to 24 different voices including drums, maracas, shakers and more - meaning you can add a percussive element to your sound that will match the genre you’re playing in.
The onboard speaker will easily keep up with an acoustic instrument, however the line out socket means you can plug in to a PA system or amplifier for use on stage. The BOSS DR-01s can be powered by either the included AC adaptor OR by six AA-sized batteries making it a great tool for touring/busking musicians.

...Finally, Boss designs a percussion machine for acoustic guitarists/vocalists...priceless. Appears to be simple to use and setup on the fly. Beats the heck out of countless hows of fiddling with BeatBuddy Manager software (disaster), less time "under the hood", more time playing with percussion instruments...
its just such a damn shame its limited to just THREE time signatures. They could have at least included a freeform looper if they were going to be that restrictive.

Can the pedals be assigned for each song or do you have to reprogram the pedals each time you want a different assignment (eg splash and start stop on song 1, congas and drums on song 2). Thanks

Can you hook it into pro tools?
@@Jimmywilliams_ I run the line out to my Boss Acoustic live, adjust the volume, and presto, I’m in business. As for ProTools? Run the line out to your digital/audio box or USB mixer, then into your DAW.

Bit late but --mine arrived today . Brilliant ,easy for an old duffer and does exactly what i wanted for practice.

Sounds just like the rhythm section on my first Casio MIDI keyboard. I think it had 5 Ska rhythms. LOL. That was 30 years ago.

Why if it has alot of percussion features does it not have 2/4 time? Cuban and Brazilian guitar have alot of songs using this time signature?

When you connect the Boss pedal, and programs for example turn the shaker on and off in preset 1, does it double for all 50 presets? Wasn't it supposed for each song to be able to choose which instruments to activate and deactivate, without affecting the other songs?
I use this with my Wurlitzer. It's a very inspiring tool for any songwriter. Just hit the start button and create. 😊

Hi Meg. I have a question regarding the Boss DR-01S. I want to use it live in performance. I have the count-in programmed. I want to have a break (using a footswitch pedal). When I re-enter the rhythm (by footswitch) the count-in comes on again. I don't want this, I just just want the rhythm to resume.

I just bought one and starting to mess with. Going through the sounds, but where do you find the sound effects? It says in the manual there are sounds of surf, birdsong and rain, and it shows as part of the metronome mode, but I can’t find them. Probably wouldn’t use them but wondering where they are. Thanks

I just got my rhythm partner and LOVE it. I would be great fun if you could recommend some drum patterns for calypso, country, rock….. I find it hard to match a pattern to a song. Do you know of any lists of drum patterns? Thanks in advance for your help.

Great little unit but I wish it had a "swing" function so it sounded a little looser, and that you could trigger fills besides the one cymbal crash so it wouldn't just be the same beat over and over.

Sounds like the rhythm part of a 1960s Lowrey home organ. 16 bars of listening to this and you want to tear your hair out
Seems like this thing is pretty useful for a lot of things. I'd like to see real analog samples, and more of a basic drum kit orientation with lots and lots of variation for slow or slower songs. They have a good idea but if they tailored this to more of a drumkit that focuses on the acoustic guitar player I think it would be a big hit.
Agreed. While I love percussion with acoustic, full & varied drum samples from a drum kit should be central.

Yes, connect from the 'Line Out' on the back of the DR-01S to the 'Aux In' on the back of the Acoustic Live amp.

It has standard mini-stereo jacks for aux-in and line-out. You might need an adapter depending on your mixer inputs.

All drum machines need to run a stereo cord , one to sub and one to mains and they sound real, sub is a must have but the speaker is ok to practice
