    I totally made this mistake this passed new year's b/c I was short on time. I undercured black gel polish and wound up with the WORST allergy. And now I can no longer do any type of gel without a reaction. :( 😞

    I wish I knew all this about 18 months ago. I both under-cured, and mixed 2 polishes with a different lamp. I later discovered the polish contained free HEMA. I wound up in the ER, was prescribed immunosuppressants, and all my nails literally fell off from the allergic reaction to the acrylates. Even the allergist was shocked at the severity of the reaction. Safety is important for manicures!

Ive been doing nails for 6 years (self learned) and ive developed a very bad gel allergy sadly, i cant really wear any gel anymore and i suspect that it also came from undercuring and as well as skin contact. 2 QUESTIONS
    1. What about the other side of not enough: can you cure gel polish for too long?
    2. Also, would increasing the curing time fix the problem of soft uncured thick dark gel beneath the surface? Or it doesn't matter because the top layer will cure and prevent any additional light from getting through to the soft uncured part?

    • @NailCareerEducation
      @NailCareerEducation  Před 20 dny +5

      Yes, you can cure it too long. It can cause yellowing in lighter colours and becoming very brittle.
      But in a case with a very strong color, the light just cannot get through hence causing the issue. So yes, the longer you put it under does not necessarily mean is caring at all.
      That’s why when I do a very dark color, I will build the nail with a clear free edge first. Then I can remove the form so now the light can get from underside as well. Also, it’s very important to thin so light but thick of course, that does not happen hence the problem.

      I'm sorry to say, but it's more likely you have developed an allergy to the product. I've never heard of developing an allergy to uv. Unfortunately, a gel allergy is lifelong, though there may be a chance you might still be able to use HEMA-free products, as that is considered the most common allergenic ingredient.

    • @NailCareerEducation
      @NailCareerEducation  Před 21 dnem +1

      Hmmm much more common to be an allergy from the Gel Polish . Firstly I advise you remove the Polish completely - do where gloves to prevent any uncured gel dust from contacting your skin. I’m

      If you really want to pursue gel again I’d investigate with an allergist to find out what exactly what ingrediant is causing the issue

Especially if building with dark colours can be harder to cure properly?

    • @NailCareerEducation
      @NailCareerEducation  Před 21 dnem +1

      For example, if you are wanting black French nails, there are several ways you can get it. My favourite is sculpting the black colour on the free edge right in to the built-in Nail. Yes, you can add the French black design after the nail is sculpted with gel polish or gel paint or even nail polish. But the end result does look slightly different. And it just depends on what you were looking for and your tastes and style. I prefer it built in because it is a smoother look across the top of the nail it’s much more finished in my opinion and much more elegant and professional. But some people are not concerned about the difference. You may also be using a black colour in nail art for example when you are doing an inlay, but I just went solid black to make it very clear.

    Question: can you over-cure?

      Yup- and if it’s clear or white gel it’s ugly - it goes a tarnished colour - gets yellowish. It can make it too brittle prone to cracks

    I always cure 2-5 times longer than necessary

      Just make note that over curing can lead to brittle nails and breakage and yellowing from the lamp
