@14:20 start of discussion about the Trump Assassination Attempt
Trump's ear injury was 2 cm long but miraculously healed up perfectly in less than a week. On a 78 year old man.
As soon as I saw the theories emerging, I imediately though of Shermer. Thanks for the expertise Mike
me too... the Trump conspiracy nonsense is irritating and reminiscent of the JFK nonsense
Thanks for sharing. I always enjoy hearing your rational approach.
Love the logical and detailed presentation.
avoiding wrong theories is important, but saying nothing to see here is too early to say. Skepticism has its limits.
Always enjoy these videos of just you speaking, wish you made more. Keep it up!
Quite a good summary of the lone skeptic theory of presidential shooter conspiracies. One should always be skeptical when attributing to incompetence what might be better explained by malice.
This was obviously an inside job. Secret service ordered no one on the roof and water tower, right before the shooting, secret service told local PD to take lunch. Shooter was spotted by Snipers with a rangefinder and backpack, no one confronted him or warned Trumps team. Theres also footage that shows someone on the wayer tower, they then hid behind it after the first shots then re-emerge. Secret Service director already caught lying saying the building was outside the perimeter and that local PD was in charge of it(which they denied). Then she claimed they had 3 snipers inside the building and not on the roof due to safety concerns, even though snipers were on a slopier roof behind Trump. Now SS director is being told dont give interviews.
Banality is the enemy of conspiracy theorists
But was that crooks in the Black Rock promo video or not?
Yes.
While it probably is incompetence, theres enough that stinks that questions need to be asked and answered.
Your grammar stinks.
Those two clauses are contradictory. The first concedes there is probably no known explanation, but then you go on and jump to the expectation that there must be one. Sure, investigation is definitely warranted, but there's no reason to be convinced that there are any answers.
@@Elintasokas Conspiracy theorists start every conversation with “I have questions”.
@@Elintasokas Who said there has to be a nefarious explanation? Have you not been paying attention? You're called crazy to even wonder. Sure, a nefarious explanation isn't as likely as sheer incompetence, but you can't bury your head in the sand either.
@@LemonsAndSalt69 Do and think what the media tells you! ... Ok.
Thank you Michael Shermer. The voice of sanity.
There is so much incompetence in the world, we see it everywhere. JFK himself said of the Navy high brass when he served during WWII that there was much incompetence, as it seems there was a few days ago by the secret service and police, and even all the way back to JFK's assassination. Why the secret service driver didn't speed up or swerve after the throat shot has always seemed a glaring example of incompetence. There was a full 5 seconds to step on the gas and get out of there, but nothing of the sort happened. Better training is still needed it seems, and better people. With four assassinations and nine assassination attempts on Presidents or former Presidents running for office again, adding RFK running for President as a Senator, (that's 13 shootings against 46 Presidents, which comes out to about 1 out of 3.5 of our Presidents, or Presidential hopefuls have been targets) it unfortunately is almost a common occurrence.
Michael
Michael Shermer, the voice of the Establishment and government BS. His fans are duped and devoid of logic.
I was literally waiting for this guy to throw in his 2 cents and tell everyone they are seeing things, eye witnesses are unreliable, even question the veracity of experts. He is the go to guy for the establishment.
OMG! There’s an establishment conspiracy too? Which establishment? Who’s paying the shill money? How do I join your tribe? Is it free? So many questions….
Why can't they release the JFK records yet? Same for RFK?
Shermer believes Warren Commission and is therefore an Establishment guy who fancies himself Mr. Skeptic.
Do you think there's anything in the unreleased JFK records that will say that Oswald DIDN'T do it?
Good analysis. But by all accounts, the show of incompetence was too unthinkable to adequately explain what happened.
Huh? Have you been out in the world? Incompetence has become some weird badge of honor, it's everywhere. Also the S S has been bumbling things regularly since before Obama was in office, so this is utterly unsurprising.
@@d4mdcykey I think what we saw was more in the category of "looking the other way" than incompetence. Sometimes there's a fine line, but that line seemed to be crossed by a mile on Saturday
Everything is always just as it appears.
It tells you all you need to need to know about today's politics that these people are fans of a presidential candidate. I mean not not supporters fans
As always, you are clear and rational .
My sense is that there are probably potential lone wolf actors lurking around large political events. They either don’t perceive or can’t exploit vulnerabilities in security.
In this case, a combination of incompetence and/or overconfidence on the part of the secret service afforded this guy an opportunity to. The lack of personnel on the roof and the presence of a ladder were inviting.
"[If] they assigned a team this incompetent to Trump, that itself is malice."-Auron MacIntyre
LOL, anyone that takes that ridiculous conspiracy grifter and reactionary serious has lost all hope of making a valid point, so...congratulations?
why would the attempt by a 20 yo kid "make" independent/undecided vote for trump? sympathy vote? that is irrational isn't it?
a tipping point for many crystallizing the difference between the two sides.

Great video. Minor point: McKinley's assassin's name, Czolgosz, is pronounced CHOgoz.
40:39 I want to note something here that you said that I've heard from Posner previously and bothers me because I think it's deceptive. The Marine Corps has three levels of marksmanship qualification: marksman, sharpshooter, expert. I don't know the entire statistical breakdown, but when I was in, more than half the guys I knew had sharpshooter or expert. Point being, sharpshooter in the Marine Corps does not have the import you and Posner imply. It would be akin to saying, "Of course Einstein was a genius from an early age; he got a B in science class!" I had sharpshooter or expert my entire time in the Marines and I wasn't even in a combat field. That's not a brag -- it's just not that remarkable to get the mid-level qualification. I'm sure Posner must have been told this.
Thanks Michael.....
I will be staying away from the Trump is the messiah evangelicals utube sites can you imagine what they will be saying😅
I'm trying to imagine what you just said.
😅 imagining what they are saying is less damaging to your health than actually listening to the evangelicals...
Ah the madness of humans.
Yep, you’re a total lunatic to think you’re not part of the problem!
@Tired-hm4tw Trump putting his fist in the air yelling fight is already a meme and on shirts.
RFK also spoke at PorcFest and he had a similar setup then. Metal detecters going into the Pavilion. All doors in and out of the Pavilion were behind a secure perimeter. I am not exactly sure where RFK entered and exited from, I am assuming it was the rear somewhere. RFK has an elite private security firm protecting him.
How do you lock someone inside a bathroom? Are such locks common?
Where was Audrey Marina Rachel Oswald?
You can't say anything at all in these comment sections any longer.
your dropping the ball on this one, Mike.
My sweet summer chield
That was weak.
My dad was a John Birch Society member and I remember an article in the Birch Society magazine called Marxmanship in Dallas by Revilo P. Oliver. Great conspiracy theory nonsense.
Michael PsyOp Shermer
"President Trump"? Is he the president and I missed it?
Let's see how well this ages. But you could do with a bit more skepticism about the patriotism of the Secret services, to put it mildly.
Shermer is establishment.
Damn you’re older than I thought! I was only six years old in 1975 and you were at Pepperdine? 😂
Squeaky Frohme was paroled in 2009
Shermer's fans are duped and astonishingly gullible.
1:48 Re conspiracies: has anyone debunked the one about MLK?
how many times have you taken the fauchi ouchi? the more a person is jabbed, the more chances of neurological problems. it seems you are off in looking into ex-employees from all of the alphabet organizations and what they have said. cia, fbi, dod, nih, cdc, and on. and on.
You want to cite reputable sources for your claims? If not, take it up with your drinking buddies in the bar or in yer man-cave….😂
@@christopherhamilton3621 glad to, my homie. ready? Dr. Peter McCullough, Dr. Kori, Del Bigtree, Aron Siri, just off the top of my head. Next question. All are on great podcasts for deep understanding. Good Luck!
Can you really ask "whats more likely" after seeing a series of highly unlikely events?
The Sherm!
No....the Sherminator! I have been following Shermer for years.
Michael is gonna have a rough time explaining this one.
This is hilarious. You really do just believe the world that is spoon fed to you. Zero critical thinking. Do you even experience introspection? Or do you only know your own life as to you by others?
I used to respect Shermer, but he's been proven wrong enough times. Combine this with his allergic reaction to conspiracies, as well as his worship of probabilities, leads him to end up with a probability of 0 on everything he discusses.
He claims to be a proper bayesian, but bayesians never claim a 0 or 1 on their priors, there's always some grey space, which he never leaves room for in his arguments.
He's a smart man, but way too arrogant and narrative believing for someone who runs a publication named 'Skeptic'.
What? He literally does. Read the book or watch his interviews on JRE. He acknowledges that a lot of conspiracies ARE in fact conspiracies. That does not imply that an anamoly is evidence of it in every single thing that happens, which is the current mode of thinking for people to uncritically fall for.
The CIA DID!
I’m not a conspiracy theorist. But I wholeheartedly believe that “everything” does happen for a reason & everything is connected. Events happen because of a present or prior cause we have made. I’m the opposite…no such thing as randomness 😅
And I'd just bet that you believe in angels.....
You are missing the context in which randomness is used here. Yes, in a deterministic universe all effects have causes, and when we use randomness here we are talking about less to zero predicable causes. Think of your everyday life. You can predict mundane events but a random event is preciously something you cannot predict. These are random elements. The extraordinary events illustrate this best. Even thinking of lottery numbers, they are random. That is they don't follow a predictable set or pattern. Stating that all things are connected in this context is using it in the teleological since or in the sense that everything is planned out.
Isn't that 'butterfly effect' ?
Emotional garbage. 🙄 No sweetie, sometimes things happen, and it doesn’t mean a damn thing.
@@Rabbithole8 about lottery numbers, is it just that right now we don’t have the tools to predict them or is there something inherent that makes them unpredictable by nature?
I think of chess being predictable but so many moves it’s just too much to calculate, for now. Is it the same?
You are right about cognitive dissonance about proportionality, but that doesn't disprove anything. I'm not a conspiracy theorist and I enjoy your work a lot. But I think always having a preconceived skepticism is also a fallacious way of thinking.
“A preconceived skepticism”? “Fallacious way of thinking”? Dude, your high school educated mind is trying way too hard to impress.

@@Lavvvs Only the truth hurts. Pretending to laugh out loud won’t change anything.
I don't even need to watch this video to know that yet again Shermer is going to take the opposite of the skeptical approach and instead of questioning, he will be denying the very real possibility.
You’re just a genius, aren’tcha? 😂
In side job-Black rock?
