It's amazing what people are ready to do in order to escape from Australia.

Ahahahhaah

😂😂😂
Hat's off to anyone who is willing to physically work that hard for anything.
Hard work but now he’s got a boat of his own
This man is extraordinary. His time on Alone was a testament to resilience.
As a carpenter that was the best video on self reliance I ever Saw I was impressed respect
Thanks Randy.
Occasionally I let CZcams algorithm suggest vids for me, which is how I found this, and it is one of the best produced vids I have seen in the past three years. EXCELLENT work. Thank you very much for sharing.
Thanks!

Great to see that some true rugged men still exist. One must admire the patience of this guy.
It's the platinum edition! I like to imagine someone hundreds of years ago in history finding that canoe, and how excited they'd be using it. 🌴
Now you see why the birch bark canoe, was so revolutionary!
Gota hand it to you for sticking it out, & not quitting!
Can't fathom doing that without modern day equipment!
I find it amazing that Aboriginal, Native Americans and Polynesians could do this without modern metal welding and tool crafting. Really awesome work!
And did/do it way better
Modern tools just save you time. Its wood you can carve it if you have patience
They usually burned/charred away the wood they wanted to remove, only the finishing touches was done by hand with tools. Stone tools wittle at wood pretty good, and I do not mean sharp flint but to the layman's eye would look blunt and ineffective for the task. Just to give an example a stone axe (they don't look like they could compare at all to iron axes) requires about 3 times the swings to do the same task iron axe would. So it's not terribly difficult.
Aborigines usually made their canoes out of bark, few tools required.
They also built boats from leather in the polar region!
Bring a Oscar to this man! Super skillfull, smart and totally dedicated. Respect from Brazil!

You are a real man. I’m 17 years old and I admire you and your life style! Respect! 💪 Hello from Ukraine 🇺🇦
Thanks!
Very well made kayak with some really nice features. A value for what you get. The grandson has already caught some nice fish from it.
I have nothing but the greatest respect for you brother. This is an engineering masterpiece, and your skills are next level. Thank you for sharing this with the planet. Take care and God Bless. ❤
Thank you Derick!
Absolutely incredible but I also liked how he used a chain saw but then also made a bow for a drill instead using an electric one lol
just great, i always wanted to be in a toy like this
My thought exactly.

I tried doing this forty plus years ago.
I found this perfect cottonwood log, already dry.
I used an antique adze and used fire to my advantage when I could.
It weighed a ton !
I finally got it into a local pond and jumped in.
I had evidently made it off center.
It got accidentally burned in a brush fire.
No loss.
Awesome video Mike - I found about you through Alone and now going through your CZcams catalogue. Your survival skills speak for themselves, but your camerawork is also in a class of its own. Can't wait to see your next project!
That’s the best build I’ve seen in ages, all that work and WOW it worked like, it’s so good so buoyant so very grand, thanks for the video owesome stuff
THAT is art! Huge respect, it's awesome
The amount of labor and skill for that project is amazing, great work brother
Wow…incredible…I love seeing lost arts coming back to life…great job, inspirational!
I agree, I have never thought the people who would hallow out a log and use it as a boat used gas powered chain saws but I like how the lost art of doing so is coming back.
Wow! After watching "Swiss Family Robinson" as a kid I had this desire to build a canoe from a log; For some reason that desire lingered - thank you for finally curing me of it :)
Traditional man skills, modern mad camera angles and haircut. Nice 😂❤.
I love watching you work. You just keep getting better at it. And I love the view. 😊
This guy is absolutely amazing and talented!!!!
nothing less then incredible, amazing work, the best dug out I ever seen.
I like how he secures everything with wood pins.
As a 34 year old man who hasn't seen the ocean up close since he was 2 (I hardly remember it) I've always held a fascination for sailing. Amazing that someone could take a log and turn it into an oceangoing vessel. The CZcams algorithm really knows me.
Thanks. Yeah the algorithm is amazing.
Totally reminded me of the scene from cast away when he launches his raft into the ocean
Awesome 👌
I admire the adventurous spirit in you.
I too possess this spirit.
It gives purpose to life.
(Besides family.)
Great job with the canoe.
Is well thought out.
Can be tweaked later.
I bet you feel a sense of pride about your canoe.
Well done my friend.
May you fulfill the adventure brewing inside you.
Be well.
Be safe.
God Bless

I admire your skills, knowledge, and ethics. Quite amazing.

Wow. I would watch an entire series of this
Not sure what is the coolest thing... the work to build -carve?- that canoe or the fantastic editing of the video where music and tools noises match so well... whichever... fab!! ❤😉
Absolutely super cool project. Well done & inspirational
Absolutely amazing. I wish I could do something like this.
Очень понравилось исполнение в таком стиле! На что способен человек имеющий цель! Благодарю за видео!
This is fascinating. You are amazing. I cannot believe this actually worked. What an accomplishment. Great work.
I was going to complain about the waste of wood, but it took so much work that you can get an idea of how difficult the old ones were. congratulations for the video.
Simply incredible dude. Wow. Great work, thanks for sharing. May the wind fill your sail!

Amazing skills bro. Thanks for sharing that. Eye open to possibilities in the future.
loved it . this guy reminded me of my pop he could ,and built anything .
I meet Mike and his creation yesterday 20/7/21 just inside the mouth of the Bloomfield river up in FNQ. I was blown away by this Man and his creation. Now that I have watched this video, I am stunned at his vision, talent and determination. I heard you made it to Cooktown today Mike? I went down to the river to say hello but couldn't see you. All the very best with your journey. You are truly an inspiration.

Excellent ship building skills!,exciting to watch! The painstaking use of hand tools boggles my mind! Every bit as exciting and interesting to watch as the rebuilding of Tally Ho .
Man of dedication, commitment and hardworking...one of the best satisfying video
Fantástico como quedó.!!! 🙋👍
Amazing! It's been a while since I was so impressed.

Vor allem, so schön kombiniert mit der Handlung! 😃👍
I am so impressed mate, you did such a good job on this canoe! ❤❤❤
Parabéns!! Ótimo trabalho!
If I ever find myself trapped on a deserted island, with just a pair of ice skates (like in the movie Cast Away), I officially know who I want to be stuck with me!
This video, from the music, to the sound effects, to the tools and techniques, was a pure joy to watch!
saw that before and still nice to watch again.. nice job
Looks great and so does the canoe 😃

Great work man, highly dedicated, skilled and lots of patience.
How much effort he has given can't be described in a comment
much love and respect! this guy is a straight beast! Thank you for the awesome content!

This gives me a HUGE amount of respect for ancient man. This was an insane job even with a modern chainsaw to do the heavy lifting. Imagine doing this with only ancient hand tools.

😅😅😅
It's alive. It's a different form of life. It grows rings every year just like you age.
That was absolutely amazing! Thanks mate!
I love that he uses all kinds of traditional tools and solutions for his project and then pulls the chainsaw like "ok fuck that shit there are limits". 😂 I'd be curious to know if there is a technical reason for that or if my interpretation is actually correct haha. Amazing project and skills, thanks for sharing !
I'd say you're spot on 😂
As a boat builder I can tell you: You are correct, the reason is 100% because "Bugger this for a game". Even with powertools you can see how the project has aged him, at 7:45 he has grey hair ;)
Chainsaw helps take the bulk out and is percise he knows how deep it went . Rather than stripping the inner log he may go to deep. Another thing g there's no hand tool to chainsaw in I mean he can drill but that's annoying af
Must weigh few tons
yeah he proved the concept, also most of the time these things likely would’ve been worked on by multiple people
Fantastic job! Makes a nice change from the usual jobs!
I thought it'd just be that first log and fairly simple, he way outdid my expectations!
Nice job that canoe looks sick show this man some respect.
Launching and sailing that for the first time must have been so satisfying.
Meus parabéns você mereçe por esse trabalho Braçal incrível ficou muito bonito.....👏👏
Brilliant video, great music. And you built an amazing boat. Good for you! Enjoy!
This hard labor masterpiece. Thanks
I havnt seen this much dedication in building a boat

This video is beyond what I thought I would be viewing.
The video kept my full attention and the time lapse was great.
It absolutely amazing watching you take a massive tree and transforming it into a one of a kind, true piece of artwork.
Your vision and execution amazing, as well as your craftsmanship.
I must admit, watching you sail out in open water, I got teary eyed.
May your sail time be many.
Best regards.
