Homemade Plywood Sailing Boat FULL BUILD, My Goat Island Skiff

- čas přidán 25. 07. 2020
- A compilation of the 30 weeks I spent building my Goat Island Skiff . Yes, a plywood sailing boat full build!
from lofting to cutting and coating the panels with epoxy to all the woodwork and and finishing like marine Varnish and enamel painting.
You can also see how I made my carbon spars using old windsurf masts.
laminated rudder and daggerboard process is briefly shown here too.
And of course, some cool sailing moments.
This is my first plywood boat building so this is NOT a tutorial on how to build the GIS, it's just how I built it a homemade plywood sailing boat...my way.

Best build I have seen in years, no talking just working.
Thank You!
What a great build! I built a Goat Island Skiff about 10 years ago and it has been a very faithful friend ever since! From solo sailing, to island camping with a couple of friends, to sailing with the family, it has been just right for me. A wise man once told me that the amount of fun you have on a boat is inversely proportional to its size. This is very true of the Goat Island Skiff. The fact that it takes 15 min. to rig and can be launched and recovered so easily by a single person means that you’ll never hesitate to take it out even for just an hour long rip in a stiff breeze. Thanks for sharing your build. I wish you many years of fun with this beautiful boat!
Thank you Albert!
You almost pointed out all the reasons why I chose the GIS! It's such an versatile boat, hard to beat!
And my GIS lives 10ft from the water at all times, so I only have to put the mast up and I'm sailing in 5 minutes!
I love camping too and have a couple of videos on Rat Island doing so... take a peek! 😉
Wow! It's fab.
I could tell right away this was going to be a great build by how clean and organized your work space was. Ty for Sharing.
I just can't get over how beautiful and fast the Goat Island Skiff is. WOW. Awesome job!

대한민국에도 돗단배는 있었는데 더빨리 더많이로 지금은 자취를 감추었네요.

Beautiful! It would also look great with a felucca sail. Great job!
Thank you Pieter!
I'm not familiar with how it's rigged and sailed but the Felucca is a really interesting sail. 👍
Great job!
Thank you! 😁
That was excellent
Thank you Robert!! 😀
Very good, master!!
Thank you!
...but I'm just an apprentice! 😉
very nice build, a true beauty
Thank you very much!
Congratulations on your stunning build, and also your video showing the work. I built the Mike Roberts "Green Island 15" 20 years ago. Similar in construction. I have the urge to build another :)
Thank You Scott!
I built my GIS this year and I already want to build something else too!! 😁
start now. don't wait till time comes that you'll only be thinking about why you didn't make it while you can and can enjoy riding it. btw I'm also presently on the process of making may mirror dinghy. I'm now on the fiberglassing part.
@@TheBoatRambler As a skilled craftsman who was struck down in an instant with what is now a lifelong disability my advice is never put off anything in life.
I have built, refitted, sprayed and sailed so many different boats in my life I've lost count but the urge to do it again never leaves me.
That's why I loved this series so much. Crack on and do it or you might find yourself with nothing more exciting to do tomorrow than live your life vicariously through the endeavours of others.
My only pieces of my advice to anybody undertaking a project of any size never ever under estimate the value of hand tools, sharp blades and develop a truly maniacal passion for sanding.
Beautyfully built! Great and very instructive video! I think it will be of great help to future GIS builders before looking at the rest of the detailed material from your CZcams channel!
Thanks Robert!
I hope that people can have an idea of what's ahead looking at this video. And hopefully will build a boat, but if not at least go sailing!
great video. thank you. Cheers.
Thank you for watching!
Great job mate, I'm chuffed for you, well done! So many steps to get a boat in the water.
Thank you! It was well worth it too!!
The designer would be proud of the finished boat you built in your shop. My hat is off to you Sir. My one and only wooden boat was the "quick canoe" which is nothing compared to your excellent boat. Cool breezes to you, and enjoy your boat.
Thank you very much!
Congratulations perfect job, enjoy sailing.
Thank you! Will do! 😉
This was an absolutely wonderful beautiful video. I give it a hundred likes❤️
Thank you very much!! Really glad you enjoyed it! 😉

Very nice build. Very nice video editing too!
Thank you very much Roger!
I have made some mods since then, like adding two more hatches and watertight side seats. 😉
brilliant well done
Thank you.
Felicitaciones y muchas gracias .
Thank you Graciela!
I love it! Those lateen rigs are so elegant In my opinion.
But it´s not a Lateen sail, it´s a trapeze. Latins are triangules.
