'Your best' doesn't mean pushing yourself to your breaking point. 'Your best' means the best you can do while being the best you. Get enough sleep , give yourself breaks, listen to your limits. 'Your best' is better when you're happy and healthy.
I think perhaps it's good to have a rest day in your schedule when you are adding something new into your routine. I am trying to run lots of hills and I am finding there are certain parts of my feet that need to adapt to the different stressor.
Thank you for another great video, Heather and GTN. Rest days are still one the most difficult things for me to plan for and accept. Some days feel great and I wonder why I have a rest day scheduled in whilst other days feel like I'm stuck in quick sand despite just coming off a rest day. As a horse racing fan, I had to do a double take as I thought Heather was standing in front of Frankel for a second there!
I always think about it in "Follow the plan" mentality. If I won't skip my hard or long sessions, I won't skip easy or rest days too. It's the prescribed "workout" for the day and that's it.
This subject of rest has come up a lot lately and maybe that is my issue. I will now build something into schedule but it will be tough. I am always scared to lose the fitness I so hard worked for.
GTN , do you ever feel like you're wasting your time, looking at the comments? I have a friend who will not have a rest day, result, he is getting slower but can't understand why 🤷
Goggins does active recovery based on his pulse, if resting heart rate is higher than usual in the morning he sticks to zone 1-2 for the day. Source: the man said it himself on jre i think.
wheni was young i trained everyday, however as i became older, 54 years old, the body is not the same, so i do my 10 k running 3 times a week, now i work 12 hours every day, except sunday i work 4 hours. so i cannot agree with you, because our lives are not based on running for we have other obrigations in life.

He is an ex race horse though, still has some speed!
Can´t avoid feeling guilty on a rest day. I feel obsessive!

@@gtom84 wow, even more disciplne needed for this sport, than i always thought
@@gtom84 that's a good way to think about it
Really helpful video! Could you guys do one on suggestions for how to give your mind a break or mix up training routines? Easier said than done!

That horse 8:20 is on a rest day too.
Even the dog at 10:06 :)
Well spotted, hope I wasn't boring him ;)
I was going to go for a run this morning but I think ill take this as a sign to take a rest day instead
Just having a thought, should i go out run today or rest and recovery. This video made my day. I will take a pass then.

It will help your fitness in the long term, trust me.
It seems like in my 60s, I take 6 months of rest each year to recovery from surgery:-)
I still walk like 8-10 km in my "restest" days so IDK if that qualifies.

David Goggins and Jocko Willink want to know your location
Even Goggins knows that sometimes you have to stop and you have to recover. The thing is that he waits until he literally can't move

Sunday is rest day
I thought that by training different sports on different days ie rest from a long ride day with a swim day
Well, sort of, did an OWS in the AM. But, thats it.

Ermmm.... because I'm tired...?
Heather is that your horse?
It's my parents horse so practically yes :)
First, just after my sea swim!
Cut out that dairy! Yin yoga on rest days works a treat.
