it actually had a great purpose: when the katyusha was introduced you had to play this thing in order to unlock the kat
Sort of like how in 1940-41 they existed to use up expensive German ammunition to the point I think the T40-T60 chassis was more or less extinct in the wild
There was also that one time they tried to make a T60 into a glider
I killed a Churchill somehow once. Only good memory I have of this awful vehicle

I got one of those as a test drive. One of my greatest achievements in WT was map sniping an A13 on Ash River on the hill. This was before they added the range marks in the gunner scope.

This tank is so bad when Gaijin awarded me a 1 day test drive trying it turned me off wanting to buy a premium *ever*. Never has a prize felt more like a punishment.
I liked it when I got it ... Actually got quite a few kills with it. This was over a year ago
@@semi.g at some point they dropped the penetration of these katyushas specifically to like 24mm when they used to be about 10-15mm higher.
This was around the time of the volumetric update.
Aerial katyushas are still the same. It's the ground based ones, as well as the rockets on the calliope and T99 that got nerfed for no reason.

I love how 3 of these rockets brings down an entire 4 story stone building but 12 to the face of an M22 locust and its half an inch of armor is just shrugged off like a nerf dart.

I spent 4 hours on it... And I never got more than 2 kills... It was suffering

@@WaluigiIV i got four kills. Then i started begged the opposite team and some guy actually agreed to be killed by me. Later they reduced the requirements.
Yeah, I bough this vehicle to do the event.. through my entire time grinding that out, I only ever got 2 kills in this thing. It was so so so so painful.

In their defence, if I was in that battle and I saw someone using that accursed tank, I wouldn't kill him. I don't kick a man when he's down. I would say hello in the chat though.
And anyone who gets a kill with that thing deserves more respect than a 2pdr QF can give them.
It used to have some pen way back when now i cant even dismantle a track with it. At least it has decent but useless armor bounce. And i cant even dismantle buildings to try to use it somewhat usefully for my team cause we both know we aint getting any kills with it. Would be more useful if there was a button to self destruct all that ammo at once and call it a day...

I had a test drive with this tank like 1 year ago and even while shooting missiles at people they didn't even bother wasting a round because they knew it wouldn't kill them

The best use for that vehicle I have found is leveling a ton of buildings in towns to open up new areas of fire. You can take out like 30 buildings pretty easy and help your team destroy enemy cover.
On one hand, a sense of mercy might compel me to spare a helpless foe. But on the flip-side... yea, it is a tad insulting. So I guess that this scenario is a genuine "Catch-22" This over-priced piece of junk should be a gift tank for April 1st.
In earlier version of WT, I remember this vehicle reload all 24 rocket at the same time and have higher pen (24mm if i'm not wrong). An it can somehow manage to destroy medium tank with a barage.
Remember when you had to get 5 kills with that thing in one match to get the Katyusha ? Painful memories.

They keep lowering the penetration of rockets. Panzerwefer used to be much higher. Now the stat card says 37mm pen, but if you highlight the rocket itself, it's actually 27mms of pen. The thing is sad now

See this thing was absolutely nutty when hull break was around, and when overpressure was added this thing unfortunately missed out on the good stuff, once gaijin adds overpressure to this thing itâll once again be glorious

Once you get the hang of it it is actually very good. You just have to use the rockets like HE shells when you have to kill well armoured tanks.(from the side and front too sometimes,depends) There was a competition for it. I didn't get itđ but i didn't really try. You first go the test drive and practice the distance and speed but i didn't put the effort in.
This is honestly the first time I've seen this thing get a kill... Nice!

I had this for a test drive ages ago and I had a blast. Have its rockets been changed? I even had one of my greatest moments with it: a plane harrassed me, so I got into position on a rock and shot it down, when it attacked me again.
The BM-8-24 was never meant for anti armor. It was used with multiple others to deal hell to infantry troops and maybe very light armor vehicle's or emplacements. They would put 6 or 7 of these together and fire them into one area then run off to reload and fire again before counter artillery could find them. I have no idea why this weapon platform is in War Thunder.
when i use any low BR rocket tanks i use it to annoy people and and to tell my team there is an enemy over there where hte exploding rockets are

This makes me wanna see you hope in a derp tank and try to use it as an artillery gun, ie type 75, the 15cm sturmpanzer or type 97 chi ha, tanks I've used in AB/RB to lob rounds from spawn at cap points/enemys spawn. Its such an insane feeling to just lob a round from 2.2km out and yeet some poor anti air or thin skinned vehicle. or advance to the rhine and slam the caps with he rounds. much fun and different.
The sad fact is, your Arty has more pen then your rockets do.

Oddly enough I have a 2-1 KD ratio with this tank.. I've even shot down planes with it lol. You REALLY have to pick your battles and only go after the lightest of armored tanks like SPAA's but it is doable.
The main issue with some of these vehicles is that they are ultimately meant to soften up emplacements and infantry caught out open. If warthunder had these on the map then you would have viable targets other than a few carriages. Considering most armored vehicles were designed to work in conjunction with infantry anyway, just having infantry squads acting in the capacity of recon and close fire support would make the battles more dynamic.

I bought this thing when getting the max discount on it, and the only reason I ever play it is for the spectacle of seeing and hearing rockets flying around, and hoping that there are some new players around to see it.

First Phly video I've not watched all the way through in months. As soon as the Locust by the central statue couldn't even be killed on the A2tR map, it was time to STAHHHP...
In the intro they simply know that you are not a threat and thus not even worth clicking the mouse.
If this was the US Military efficient use of combat ordinance would preclude the usage of a $379,000 Javelin missile - a single burst of 12.7mm M903 SLAP would suffice.
Potentially a single M9 pistol fired at the rockets would do the job but if we want to go into theoretical this tank could likely be killed with a very well aimed jagged rock or a crossbow hitting the ammo.
I remember when I died in the 150mm German Derpgun by shrapnel of an Arty shell that exploded 3 meters away from me.
I remember needing to get 5 kills in one game with this god forsaken vehicle just to get a katyusha. Absolute nightmare.
And then they went and nerfed the katyusha by making it unable to move while using the hydro suspension

i use it for high tier br and you know what that means weak side armour before the rebalance it did 50m of pen and aim near or at the ammo rack inside the tank
Maybe if a game mode was devised in which you'd destroy armoured bunkers to capture points/ win games vehicles like this would have a purpose

I find that the rockets have a lot if drop and enough explosive mass that shooting under tanks is not to incredibly difficult. If you can hit the ground, its usually an 1 shot

Honestly what they should do is allow it to have long range indirect fire by a special detailed live overhead map like WOT (not the crappy mini-map used in the game now). That way the rockets would be hitting enemy tanks in their thinly armored roofs and at least allow this thing a chance to kill enemy units.

I once got a test drive for it I cant remember if I got any kills in matches, it was 2017/18 maybe, but in test drive I burnt out the maus.

The trick to not getting caught with empty racks is to treat this vehicle like a shotgun...fire 4-6 or so rockets, then hide and top off the ammo.
