I like to imagine someone from 5 years ago learning all these tricks for the first time watching this video, seeing barrier skip coming up, screaming and so excited, then freaking the fuck out when he doesnt even show it XD
I love that Back in Time is actually being used to go back in time here, instead of forward in time like it does in TP and SS. 😂

he definitely had the route on a google doc on another screen, every speedrunner does it. but he is very knowledgeable about the game and he is a fantastic entertainer.

Alright this is already super interesting.
i love this run. i love to imagine the in-universe experience for the npcs. it's so incredible when you think about it, link is visiting pocket dimensions, communing with strange gods in impercievable tongues, bending time and space, manipulating the very fabric of the multiverse of zelda wind waker, all in service of getting 14 small keys. it is a compelling, ridiculous end which is at once pedestrian and unbelievably heroic. well done, nice run, and great video
The real question is "Is 14 keys really the maximum?"

Well, in the final timeline, you start with 4 keys, spend 2, and get another four from Dragon Roost. In theory, if you didn't have to spend any keys, you could wind up with 8 keys from Dragon Roost total (by getting all four, then going back in time and getting them again). You'd also only need to go back in time once.
lets be honest, linkus is a champ, he commentated a 4hr+ speedrun that had a lot of hard glitches in it, and made it INTERESTING
also keeping a good sport*

The WHAT
No matter how many times I see it, it's always amazing that the game about the endless ocean that's too prohibitively large for you to accomplish anything at all in without a boat, was broken by a glitch that lets you manually swim across the ocean to any island you want. Some speedruns are just more poetic than others.
I love how you replayed the complicated tricks while you were still explaining them! It made them so easy to understand!

I am just wondering who was crazy enough to map out the run, with what you have to do when for the sake of obtaining more small keys than you could ever use in the game.

@@dearthofdoohickeys4703 He is Swedish. He makes very few English mistakes and has only a very slight accent so it's hard to tell.
But still, it was also quite funny when he said "the dungeon will be added to this dungeon" haha (50:00) not necessarily to counter or overturn it being understandable that he made that mistake (or 2) but rather I think it's cool that it also inadvertently achieves that sort of flavor, rendering the mistake not being so bad and still agreeable in its own way

that locked door thing at the very end is really interesting, considering that in OOT, opening a locked door from behind will still consume a key, yet in WW the game only cares if you opened it from one side (although you still need a key for both sides).
Shoutouts to the editor, they did a great job for this video, especially the intro and the sadge Medli.
This run is just a non-stop showcase of breaking a game in the best ways possible all in the name of, "Why not?" - And it's amazing.

I’m not a WW runner, my only real exposure to it is through linkus/GDQ, but aren’t they both called manual super swims? (Pause less and with pausing?)
Yes, both are still manual super swims since the player is generating the initial speed necessary for the camera lock themselves. Doing unbuffered inputs at the start just saves a ton of time over pause-buffering the entire way if one can mash fast enough.
To the best of my knowledge (also not a WW runner), the Outset super swim is the only MSS necessary in most runs since getting camera lock with the Wind Waker is faster (and easier) and HD uses Item Sliding once available, so everything else is a “standard” super swim… I’d check with the experts to be safe though lol :P
Dang. This is the first video I've watched of Linkus that isn't just "hey look at this new glitch". It's really good content.
The last new glitch he made a video about was 3 months ago, and he has made a cookie videos in between them as well as in between other glitch videos
I absolutely love watching speedrun content, it's all so interesting and learning these crazy tricks and challenge runs is so fun, BUT I could never speedrun myself because time based things give me ultimate stress :)
the fact that he does all this stuff and still is like "oh no ill loose 30 seconds" while it's be proud if I could even pull of the first 5 minutes of this run

I always appreciate linkus's commentary it's a real skill to play at that level and talk about it at the same time
love that the developers knew that its *theoretically* possible to get 10+ keys so they gave the counter a second digit but also the fact that there is two digits is the only reason why people ended up trying to get 10+ keys
This is the kind of "speedrun" stuff I like, where it's less skipping through the game and more showing off really weird quirks of the game to do dumb shit
I have no words. There are so many crazy things being done here it is inconceivable.

Great commentary, it's nice having some of the tricks that get thrown around in randomizers but never really make it into main categories explained. Plus an interesting category in general.

I think the hardest setup for any key to learn confidently in my opinion have to be early Earth temple because you have a lot time and it takes like 2-3 minutes to fully skip the the stone to enter earth temple. By the way good run Linkus7

There’s nothing more human than answering “why did you do this?” with “why not?” (Maybe “Because I could” but it’s about the same)

My guess would be 16. The 4 keys from transferring the 4 back in time keys and then the 12 from the normal map. Since back in time seems to work by saving the keys that are currently stored for a given dungeon and idk if you can store a key from one dungeon and move it to another dungeon while keeping it stored. But that's just what I've gathered from watching this. Idk anything about the mechanics of the glitches for certain.
In theory with current knowledge, the max would be 15 Small Keys, but it is not humanly possible. To my understanding it’s requires memory corruption and messing with the ram with such precision that it’s TAS only, and not viable in any way for a human to perform. But hopefully in the future a human viable method could be found

I'm starting to think that chest storage being able to walk up walls is what gave nintendo the idea for BOTW's climbing
Back in Time is SORT OF what the new TOTK Master Sword permanent durability glitch is, correct? It’s similar but doesn’t use the title screen since BOTW and TOTK don’t have a title screen save file that’s useable. So they use the beginning of the game on an autosave instead and achieve similar results

See, you _say_ that you wish it was just doing that same trick over and over again, but then the run would be _99 keys._ Or, well, whatever happens when it overflows, if that happens to be more interesting. That would make it a ~25 hour run, minimum, in which you do the same trick 50 times in a row.

Honestly, this speedrun feels more meaningful than OoT any% to me.
Getting 14 keys is clearly more important than beating the game.
