Arsenal fan here. I think Arteta has handled it well. I don't think he "publicly humiliated" Aubameyang. If he thinks someone is no longer fit to be the captain, he is the manager and he has the power to change the captain.

If Guardiola, Klopp, or Simeone did it people would be applauding the action as "strong" managers. Next, we allsay we want more transparency from our clubs and this is what Arsenal have done....but still complain? Crazy. Lastly, you cannot hide him being stripped and suspended- you have to announce it- there is no other option, so Aubameyang hasn't been thrown under the bus at all and it's rather silly for anyone to say so. He's obviously broken rules and like in any job disciplinary action follows- just because he's a footballer it makes no difference.

He actually explained once he didn't wnat to sign Auba given he knew of his disciplinary issues from his days in Dortmund.. And Klopp doesn't want to repeat his mistakes - he's very particular about player discipline on and off pitch... But.. IF he had Auba in his team, he would definitely not dry out his players in the media..

Arsenal fan since 1999 here, it sure sounds like a lot of things about Aubameyang were kept private for a long time. If we just take everything that is 100% fact, he pretty much deserves to be stripped but if we take into account that there had to be multiple other instances, they probably had no choice.

KT is definitely a candidate but the best captains play centrally where they can influence more ie CM or CB. Think he'll rotate till end of season and, whilst looking for a CM to replace Xhaka, will also bear in mind that they be a potential captain. What we need is a captain with Ramsdale's personality- just too soon for him and a GK as captain isn't ideal.

I think if it were just this incident it would be unfair to remove the captaincy or even sanction him, but there has been a clear pattern of behaviour. Given his antecedents with Dortmund it just appears he is not the sort of person who should be entrusted with the armband. Furthermore, he has been abject for the team this season.
I think Gabriel might emerge with the leadership role. My understanding is that Lacazette is planning to leave at season's end, and he has become a more peripheral player anyway. Xhaka being given the reins again seems unlikely. While he has some Roy Keane like qualities I feel he is lacking the things you mentioned when you described the Man U hard man earlier in this broadcast.

I think Arteta did the only thing he could do. He's the boss. If you have a player who doesn't always follow the rules, you have to deal with that. Any player can defend the "I lead by my record" argument, but I think a captain needs to be held to a higher standard. He needs to be a complete player and be solid in all aspects of the game, from discipline to performance.
Aubamayang is a great athlete, but he's got some things to sort out to answer whether or not he is a complete player and therefore captain material. I wish the best for the guy, but overall, it's important that football not become toxically egotistical like American "football" is.

I think his disciplinary record being poor is a genuine issue especially as captain. However I think his influence is perhaps negative and his form has been abysmal. He is on huge wages and is actually a liability on the pitch. So its being used to rid the team of a negative asset and hopefully help move him on with less if a loss than just paying him another 25 million for doing nothing. You might feel that is unfair as Arsenal signed the contract but he really milked his resigning to gain maximum leverage and a ridiculous salary equal or greater than much better players then fell of a cliff form wise. He is doing pretty well out of it all and I hope we can just offload him and most of his wages as soon as possible and move on. At the start pf the season I had hope he would refind some form and he was working hard at least. But last few games he was abysmal and I think he is just unlikely to come back to anything like his old self. His sick mum could have taken some if the chances and his movement was crap.
He will be fine. Maybe another manager and club is what he needs too. Hopefully we can compromise on his wages as no one will pay him that money. Ozil was a disgusting slug, but I think Auba is a different character and it would be nice if he left on reasonable terms and we can remember the goals and FA cup.

Love Auba but it's time to go. The money has ruined him. He's not hungry for goals and just seems bored with football. He's into the fame and the London lifestyle but I think he's bored of Arsenal's football journey

Aubameyong not understand the Covid protocol is a piss poor excuse. You get away with that if you're a child. That's all on him. Also if he held up his side of the agreement to return on time, then it's not even a discussion points.

Well I feel like there is a lot of things we don't know that are a play here and the club went and made it public is a bad decision. This is internal stuff and should stay internal. Why do we care about a captains band in the first place does this matter in this day and age. A leader is going to lead and a player is not going to become a leader because he has an armband on his arm.

@@ThomasPetermann. they literally did state facts though. It’s better to put it out there rather than allow for the creation of stories that are likely to impact the dressing room. I’m 100% sure Auba was warned that this would happen.

No sympathy for him in the slightest. This has been coming for months. He's been fucking shit since 2020 but its curiously always someone else's fault. It's the style of play, it's the lack of service, it's his confidence, at what point is he just not good enough? I fucking LOVED Aubameyang, but the guy was liking Ronaldo posts celebrating their win over us, he should've been stripped then and there. Also how is Arsenal responsible for Auba not doing do diligence and looking up guideline rules? It was HIM who wanted to go to France, how's that Arsenal's fault?
