Following his move to Barcelona, let’s take a look at how Aubameyang became a superstar, and how it fell apart for him in his final months at Arsenal.
In January 2018, in one of his final major acts as Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger signed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for around £60million, a club record at the time. One of Europe’s most prolific goal scorers, the former Borussia Dortmund star was an instant success at the Emirates, elevating the Gunners attack and registering 70 goals across his first two-and-a-half seasons in England.
But four years later, and the Gabon legend has been let go for free eighteen months before the end of his contract, and is reportedly set to lose out on €7million-worth of wages in the second half of the 21-22 season as a result of his move to Barcelona, having seen his performances decline and relationship with Arsenal deteriorate over the last 18 months.
But how did Aubameyang become one of this generation’s greatest strikers? And where did it all go wrong? On today’s EFD Explained, we’re going to find out.

Seems like Auba just had internal issues that messed up his football, at the end of Arsenal career. I remeber Arsenal just won FA Cup and Auba played a big part in that and he signed the contract, most people would think that was a good idea since he scored majority of their goals. I think at Barca he'll do good because taking a pay cut shows how hungry he is to prove people wrong

@@stefanostsekrezi exactly the issue in Arsenal is not Auba and Ozil and the squad it’s Arteta one of the most arrogant and disrespectful coaches out there remember when he pushed Partey whos just torn his hamstrings into the pitch to help out defending the counterattack imagine he couldn’t even walk when Arteta did it in the game against Spurs forcing a injured player to keep on playing will only worsen the injury i mean seriously who even does that and now just think how he is in the training ground with no cameras i know plenty of people who knows Arteta and every single one of them has said the same things about him that he’s petty, disrespectful, entitled, arrogant and just a unlikeable character in general he’s almost impossible to like only reason players like Smith Rowe Saka Tierney Ramsdale is grateful is because it was under him they made their names and got to play consistently

He is bad news. Just look at how shit he's been for Chelsea since joining them. He was superb for us until we gave him a new contract and then we saw the real side of Aubameyang. What was the final straw was when he left for Barcelona without the club's permission. That's when Arteta said to Edu, I don't want him back at this club. As shown on All or Nothing, Edu didn't want him to carry on staying, eating up the wage bill and not playing. So he and the club's financial advisor came up with the genius idea of terminating his contract. Saving the club around £30m. Look at what cutting the wage bill has done for us now. We have the most valuable squad in the world!
