    I love the support in this Canadian sewing community 🥰 Sara's videos are awesome!! I keep hearing about style arc patterns being sparse so I applaud your efforts. as for the iron... I unplug mostly to save myself from accidental burns 😜

      Haha, whenever we leave the house I’m always running back in like, did I remember to unplug the iron?? 😂

    I must confess I leave my iron plugged in for the duration of the sewing session. It turns itself off if its not used for about 8or 9 minutes but I am a bit OCD and press after every seam and I like to have it ready whenever I need it. Not sure how “green” it is to be constantly turning it off but I recycle everything I possibly can so hopefully that makes up for it. As for the collar I will probably use some bias binding to secure the back neckline, or, I guess you could draft a facing for the back neck. I do agree that Style Arc are very skimpy with their instructions but I just love the variety of styles. I am about to tackle the Montana dress and have discovered a video on their channel that shows how to line the bodice with all the seams enclosed, which I think would work for other patterns as well, definitely worth a watch.

      Meant to say you did a fabulous job of this blouse. Don’t fret about the inside out sleeve, many of the contestants on the great british sewing bee did it too and they are experienced sewers. 😊

    The blouse is lovely. Your videos are inspiring me to start my sewing projects..I haven’t sewn in years so it’s a little scary for me and thank you for showing your mistakes, it helps me break through the mental blocks I create for myself😂

    I love style arc patterns but I'm a beginner and I'm Italian so I'm afraid of the making! These videos are very helpful for me 🎉

    I always unplug my iron. BTW I love that big table you're using. Wish I had the space!

    I really like your fabric choice, makes a lovely shirt with the feline collar frill contrasting with the fabric. Glad to see I’m not the only one whose stuck a sleeve in wrong side out!

    A beautiful shirt! I tend to cut an extra upper collar piece to use instead of interfacing when sewing with linen. It adds a bit of extra body without the stiffness.

    for seams and little things like that, i use the cricut small iron like press! It is super quick to heat up so i turn it on and off.
    Beautiful video! :)

    I gifted myself the Panasonic NI WL600 cordless iron which recharges itself everytime you put it back on the base. You can leave the base plugged in all the time as it has an auto-off feature.
    I love what you're doing here with your channel, your course, your general craftiness!! I also love that I just realized we know each other 🙃 I started sewing when I was 8 yrs old on my grandmother's Singer treadle!

    I have been eyeing up this pattern for some time - I shall definitely make it! Yours is so lovely! On your sleeve mishap, my easiest installation was a one sewn in up-side-down. Happy sewing!🌷

    Thank you for the sew along. Nice shirt. I have a few Style Arc patterns. Got to love their lack of instructions. Can be taxing even for a very experienced sewer. I have found that once you have your sizing right with Style Arc the fit is generally pretty good. My sister wants me to make the Bob pants for her but I saw your video on the Ethel pants so I might see which pattern she wants. Take care.

  • @consolw

    Found you through Sara and have subscribed. I agree it is a most unusual way of attaching the collar and facing, i mean it turns out ok but for a novice sewer it would be very confusing. I would be inclined to draw a facing pattern for the back bodice and apply as normal. What do others think? Style Arc are gorgeous patterns but their instructions are minimal, not for beginners. And I leave my iron plugged in as it turns itself off after 8 minutes. Look forward to more sew alongs, greetings from South Australia! 💕

      Also don’t beat yourself up about the odd mistake, I’ve been sewing for decades and still muff it up once in a while. Your sewing is lovely and your videos very easy to watch 💕

    I unplug my iron too. I'm afraid of forgetting it on and my toddler or my cat getting burnt. Good job with the shirt, it came out lovely!

    Hi Emily. Love your fabric choice for this pattern. I just finished the Style Arc Eme dress and I adore it. The Barry pants is a less volumous Ethel or Bob and my new favorite. Like you, I’m size 10 in their patterns. I leave my iron plugged in during projects. When it goes to sleep after 8 minutes, I push a button on the iron to wake it back up.

  • @katapult0987
    @katapult0987 Před 2 lety

    Beautiful job! I tend to leave my iron on and plugged in if I’m planning to work for awhile, but it does automatically turn off after a few minutes idle. I also take extra precautions to make sure my dog doesn’t get hurt. One thing I’ll do is try and do as much pressing as I can in the beginning, things like making any bias binding, pressing button bands, etc. I’ll do all of that up front if possible and then try and do a few seams before pressing again.

  • @planningtolive_thebestlife453

    I definitely unplug my iron. Lol! But I hand sew everything so it doesn’t make sense to leave it on. However, I do tend to save as much ironing up for one ironing session as I can. For instance, I sew as many steps as I can up until the ironing. Then I do all of it at once, which sets me up for a few more steps of sewing. Sewing stage, ironing stage, etc etc. I guess since I hand sew my overall rhythm is just different.

    • @EmilyLightly
      @EmilyLightly  Před rokem +1

      Maybe I should try that! I'm used to following instructions in order but saving up all the ironing sections sounds like a great idea :)

    I use a mini travel iron which I leave on while I’m sewing as I assume it being small doesn’t use up too much electricity and because it’s small I can keep it out of harms way while it’s on. Just watched both versions of the blouse being sewn isn’t it interesting how different we do things ! Just subscribed as I enjoy your presentation x

    Thanks. Really love the ruffle. I made a mistake sewing a blouse using muslin. Can't tell right side. So I interfaced the wrong side of facing. Real confusing. Lol

    I know this is late - like 9 months late. But a. This will be in my wardrobe soon! And b. My iron has an auto off. If it doesn’t move for about a minute, it flicks off. So I tend to leave it on, from the electricity usage meter, this equals the same power as it off. But it doesn’t take so long to heat up. I don’t know the answer- this is just what I do. (FYI when it is on it uses 1.75 pkwh)

    So lovely! The ruffle makes the shirt extra cute. My iron unplugs itself but it annoys me - I wish it was on all the time because you have to iron all the time. And your sewing space is so tidy it makes me want to unclutter mine :) Things just keep piling up around my sewing area :)

    I used to unplug my Iron. Since a few months I have an Iron that turns off after 8 minuten or so, into a stand-by mode, when you don't touch it. It turns back on realy Quick when I pick up the Iron.
