    I flew for Western Airlines. It was a dark day when Delta took us over. Flying was never the same again. My career was 31 years. The good years were with Western. I was never so happy to take off a uniform as I was after my last flight. Good luck Northwest! Good luck AFA. Go UNION!

    My grandfather and father both flew for Northwest airlines. A few weeks ago me and my grandpa were walking through Minneapolis St. Paul airport, we sat in our seats waiting for our plane. I looked at him and i saw tears in his eyes. I asked him what was wrong. He said it is not the same, not seeing the red tails anymore. That it is almost like a part of him left when Northwest Airlines left. I have never seen a man with more passion for the company he worked for. My father now flies for delta...

    ☹️😔😞Northwest Airlines will always be remembered as one of the great pioneers of the air, they were the oldest airlines in America when they shut down, just ahead of Delta which bought them out. Northwest will live on as one of the greatest airlines to ever fly.

    My dad used to work overseas and everytime we dropped him off to the airport my mom would always tell me we would move to America one day and we're taking NWA. She would tell me that to stop me from crying everytime my dad leaves. I was 5 then. Im 25 now living in the US with my family. Moved here when i was 16. This is awesome what some of the former employees of NWA are doing for the Number One to The Pacific "Bridging the Pacific 50 Years"... Anyone remember that painted on A/C left Door 1 of our fleet at that time from DC-9's to 747's ?.. Plus the first alliance in the industry NWA/KLM. Looking back now after many years what an airline we worked for. I was a F/A 1998-2001 DTW-MSP-NYC (LGA/JFK/EWR) NRT and South Flying was sooo fun out of the NYC base on reserve I got a lot of that lol... -MEM and finally LAX...I'll always enjoy my time at Northwest. Northwest gave me in 3 years what most people don't experience in a lifetime . Thank you for the opportunity and fun......GONG!!!.... Forever Northwest...and Northwest Orient... We should've never dropped Orient from our name... 1989 was a bad year as far as I'm concerned and I didn't come onboard until 1998. All for the almighty dollar and political correctness where are we now???

    Flew with this airline when I was in High School. They had a great crew who really knew what they were doing. Even though I was a teenager at the time, I flew as an unaccompanied minor (probably because of my disability and i most likely needed assistance with navigation or i would get lost) the Northwest crew at DFW (If I remember correctly. My memory is a little fuzzy) were there to make sure i got to my intended destination 😀 I really miss this airline!

    I first flew Northwest Airlines to Japan when I was five years old to visit my mother's family for the first time. We were on the DC-10. I couldn't stop watching the Flight Attendants in their beautiful red uniforms. I knew right then what I wanted to be when I grew up and who I'd work for. I applied to one airline. I graduated Northwest Airlines Flight Attendant training one day shy of my 21st birthday. The 10 day Narita-Seoul trips out of DTW became my regular monthly trip and I'm 99.9% certain I worked the DC-10 over to Heathrow that I first flew on to Japan. I was fortunate to also be on the maiden flight of the 747-400 from MSP-LAX as part of our training. NOTHING gets my heart pumping like those big beautiful birds, but it's so sad not to see that big red tail grace the skies anymore. The memories will last......

  • @JFKenji
    @JFKenji Před 14 lety

    I've never flown NWA. But since I'm a child, I fly Air France to Tokyo many times a year. And each time I arrived into Narita airport, I could see dozens of these red tails, and for more than a decade, I could feel the power emaning from NWA, even though I've never flown them. Each time I left Japan, I used to go to the observation deck of Narita's Terminal 1 at early night, and I enjoyed watching NWA jumbos.
    And I will miss them forever since they're a part of my memories, my childhood.

I flash through all the great people I have worked with over the past 39 years. All the flight attendants and pilots...all the laughs, jokes, commeraderie, good times and bad that we shared together.
    Now we will dissolve into a much larger group as any airlines has that goes through the short side of a merger.

    I flew on NWA a few times while it was still NW Orient. Amazing airline indeed. And going off in an NWA 747 was pretty damn cool back then. For example, I once took that flight back east in the 70's, and not only did they have a bar installed, but they had this low, round table with a Pong video game installed. Both these things were available to Coach passengers. Today, you get a bag of peanuts, some coffee, and if you want entertainment back in Coach, you'd better load up your tablet before you enter Cattle Car Country. But don't feel sorry for yourself, either. Next time you fly, take a good look at what the stews have to do now under more stressful conditions. You have to appreciate your stew.

    With their 80+ years of history behind them, Northwest's place in the history books as one of the legendary American air carriers will forever be assured. The brave actions of the crew of Northwest Flight 253 were a fitting close to this great airline.

    "Because of our people"
    Speaking as a retired employee, who was with NWA for 20 years then went through the merger and spent another 12 at Delta, there was absolutely no comparison.
    Northwest was an absolutely toxic place to work. Employee groups hated each other, management hated everybody. Life after the merger was a 180, and so much better. Nope, after living through it, I can't say I miss NWA at all.

    In 1966 passengers were rich and commercial flying was relatively expensive. Things were easier, slower, exciting, glamorous and fun. . .
    Now airline ticket prices are so cheap that anybody can afford to fly. Flying now is not so easy, things move faster, it's more stressful, and most people don't dress up. . .
    BUT it can be really classy, fun, new and exciting if you can afford to be sitting next to ??? In business or first class.

    • @fly4tips
      @fly4tips Před 4 lety

      Delta did NOT buy NWA. What was supposed to be a merger of the two airlines with a simple stock swap turned into a leveraged buyout (again) with borrowed money, and loan forgiveness after the transaction was complete! The SEC refused to allow the simple stock swap as Delta had over $13 billion in debt. NWA had very little debt at the time, as most of it had been paid down. NWA also had over $3 billion in cash and cash equivalents. They ended up loaning all of that cash to Delta so they could turn around and complete the intended merger by means of a leveraged buyout. After the LBO was completed, the loan was completed by the new Delta Air Lines. It was decided that the Delta name would survive due to name brand recognition domestically. But NWA, by far, had the better name brand recognition internationally!!! The 'widget' was redesigned to reflect a bit of both former airlines. The name of the new company was changed from Delta Airlines to Delta Air Lines, Inc. Small change, but incorporating both former companies into a new, single company!

TWA was one of the best airlines ever to take to the skies, IMHO. Customer service was king. If only that gutless corporate raider Icahn hadn't destroyed TWA from the inside before he cut & run. I miss TWA tremendously & I know that there will be many who'll miss not seeing NWA aircraft flying as well. Take care.

    Fargo was contracted out by NWA long ago. All that's changed is who has the contract...

    The Main reason AA brought TWA was for TWA's STL hub so it could be a safety valve for ORD, this was before 9/11 though.

    Sorry, but the sun did set on Northwest Airlines. There's no trace of the airline in the aviation industry today. Northwest was a truly great airline. If only they were the successor, instead of Delta.

      +EverUnited The sun set on the Northwest brand, but not really Northwest culture. Following the merger the management team at DL was more Northwest.. if you look at things like BoB, cabins (2-class), fleet makeup, hubs (minus JFK and ATL), etc.. Northwest is still flying and they're bigger than ever--just under the Delta brand. Also from personal accounts, most ex-NW employees are pretty happy about the merger. At the very least, they're not all pissed off like at US/AA and UA/CO.
      I do wish the Northwest name survived. I flew NWA a lot before the merger, always great. I only started flying Delta post-merger, and have seen a lot of improvements.. mostly thanks to NWA management, culture, and employees that carried over.

      Hi Ever,If you get a chance to see an aircraft from Delta, check out the serial number on the tail. After the number there are two letters. If you see the letters "NW" those are the old Northwest planes. The serial number stays with the aircraft throughout it's life. Even if in a small way, Northwest does live on, and I will remember fondly the only airline I flew overseas, take care.

      @@upilufti The culture of NWA is what killed the airline, lets no romanticize it now. Delta has always had a recipe for success.
