    Here is a designer/audio lover who is not only honest but, can hear the sound. I personally met a lot of people who actually cannot hear a fine differences that we (customers) are looking for. A perfect match: audio lover - can hear - designer.

    I have a pair of Focal Sopra N3 in my small bedroom, with a pair of Cornwall 4s with as much electronics as you do. Just for me. We should never make any apologies for how we want our room. Screw room treatments, don't listen to those jerks.

    • @angela-gilbert
      @angela-gilbert  Před měsícem +2

      Room treatments doesn't necessary mean we need to spend money on purpose build product. A comfortable chair or sofa is a room treatment. Window curtain is a room treatment. Any kind of furniture are room treatment. I have said many times but I will keep saying I want to listen in a home not a laboratory. I agree with you on wanting to our rooms the way we like.

    I agree. I have seen pictures of $100,000 systems, with large speakers, in a small room with no room treatment. This type of system cannot live up to its potential. Seems like a waste of money.

    • @angela-gilbert
      @angela-gilbert  Před měsícem

      It is sad to see those systems. But again it is their money and if they just want to but something just to say they have owned those things, it is their choices. I know a lot of people like that. Just to trying to tell us they are getting the best out of those things. It is not happening.

      Room acoustic makes a big difference in sound. Balancing between living space and music room is the fun part we all audiophile have to deal with. I don't living in a laboratory. I prefer my listening room like a home.

    Hi Angela -Gilbert. This is some of the best advice I’ve seen given on the topic of system/room interaction and hopefully synergy. There are lots of audio experts selling their point of view and often what is missing is thinking holistically and taking practical limitations into consideration. Like you I have a low ceiling but with a bulkhead running across the room about 1.5-2 meters in front of the speakers which are about 1-2 meters from the back wall. The face of the bulkhead is angled about 45 degrees because when I built the room my thought was it would be better to think of music as a flow and to avoid hard edges that would cause diffraction and reflections. The speakers are Clements Rt7 which use a ribbon mid and are known to have very limited vertical dispersion. This was described as a problem that cannot be overcome with them by a well known CZcams speaker designer. I did not argue but it seemed to me that in my room, listening while seated, this aspect might be an advantage. In fact if most people listen critically seated in the near to mid field, sweet spot, I wonder how important vertical dispersion really is if you take reflections into consideration.
    This is my segue to asking for some free advice…should I bother to put something absorptive on the bulkhead face or is it a question of try it and see?
    Thank you for your videos. I’ve been enjoying the philosophy behind them.

    • @angela-gilbert
      @angela-gilbert  Před měsícem

      We are both taking advantage of the speaker deficiency. With limited vertical dispersion, the both the ceiling and floor doesn't make much difference. In your case, if you sit close enough to the speaker, there is not concern with the bulkhead. Unless you want to decorate the bulkhead, otherwise, I wouldn't put too much effort on it.

    I only have one system that is in my lounge room. It doubles for home theatre duties so it is a little compromised. I have my main large tower speakers 2ft from the front wall and 6ft apart. They sit slightly forward of a large flat screen TV that sits on a stand containing all my components. My room treatment consists of heavy curtains on the left wall, a bookcase on the right wall that is about twice the distance away due to a weird room shape. I also cover the TV with a blanket when listening to music. I found that sharpens the sound stage. My listening seat is dead centre, 12ft from the speakers.

      @@angela-gilbert My main speakers are 24 year old Australian Vaf DC-X (series 2). They measure 1253H x 266W x 335D and are a 3 driver, 2 way design with 2 x Audax fibreglass 210mm mid/bass an Audax 25mm load couple dome tweeter in a D'appolito configuration. The drivers were selected and tuned to closely match so the crossover consists of a single resistor and a single capacitor. The internal bracing runs from top to bottom and is angled to form a transmission line with a single front port. They were popular for many years here as they were affordable, especially in kit form like mine. yet had a clarity and soundstage that only speakers 3 to 4 times the price could offer at that time.

    This advises you spot on correct. How many times have I seen people photos of their systems that they have thrown their money away, speakers too big for the room, furniture right by the side wall by each speaker, TV between them, and so on. Your room is a huge part of the sound we hear, the right speaker for the room size will bring you more enjoyment than buying a mega-dollar speaker that is in the wrong room. If your dealer does not ask about the room you going to use the speakers in and what is in the room, and if you use room acoustic panels then they are not really of any value to you, and spending your money at that store. The biggest downturn I've seen compared to when I started in this hobby is the lack of seasoned knowledgeable people at audio stores and worse yet they are wild west of CZcams where anyone can review audio gear, TVs, etc. What is their experience? Same as a salesman at an audio store. I was at my local store and I was looking at a $12,000 pair of speakers the salesman walked out the pair toed them in and walked away, with no care in setup measuring that they were both the same, just plunk them down in from of me. They sound like crap bright edgy and he said listen to that detail. I never would go back there again. He wanted the sale that was his only concern, which is a huge difference then using his experience and helping the customer buy a product that would meet their needs and musical taste on what they feel is correct in sound reproduction.

      If I say classical, it is not all classical. If I say jazz, it is not all jazz. If I say rock, it is not all rock. The bottom line is I listen to anything that sound good to me. Some music sound very good but it's not my taste, I wouldn't bother. Such as whinny country, rap, heavy and loud techno. Other than that, I will try anything before I decline. Currently, 70's jazz from CZcams sound very good to me. My taste changes and goes in cycle.
