A Quick Tour of my TOY House in June 2024.
My toy house, it just happens I sleep in one of the room. On the day of this video, it has total of 8 active systems in the house. I am currently working on the 9th and 10th.
In the video, we were trying to record the noise from the Onkyo A7 integrated amp. Which is one of the common problem of vintage equipment. Constants switch noise and other electrical noise. However, it didn't make noise when were doing the video. Here is the link to a video showing the Onkyo A7 vintage integrated amp making cracking noise from the right speaker.

    Can i ask you something? If i have solar panels on my roof will i have less mains noise compared to having no solar panels??

    • @angela-gilbert
      @angela-gilbert Před 5 hodinami

      @@GentielioGaming Not a simple yes and no answer. It depends on how the solar panels are connected and what they are feeding into. When I did my experimental preamp with solar panels, they were fed directly into the preamp power supply. No convert into ac and back to DC. In that case, it was dead quiet. Otherwise, they are so many ac noise in the system it doesn't get any benefit out of using solar panels at all.

      @@angela-gilbert We do have a converter. Our house is only 2 years old and it came with solar panels. Then again i live not in a city, so i guess less noise.

    as an engineer I can advice you minimize soldering to the PCBs only. and use connectors. there is shock proof connectors , water proof connector, explosion proof connector. industrial grade, marine grade, military grade. So don't judge connectors on the cheapest one on market. and you will save a lot of time and will be more secure joint than soldering.

    • @angela-gilbert
      @angela-gilbert Před dnem

      I can easily adapt any dual triode preamp tube to the circuit. May require slight rewiring for the tube pin out but the theory is the same. I am using more common tube because they are available. 5670 isn't a problem if you can supply the tube.

    • @angela-gilbert
      @angela-gilbert Před dnem

      @@MasterofPlay7 Yes, they do work in term of switch different between one type of tube to another. But be aware that different tube requires different bias. In most cases, it will work but may not be 100% of the way you want it to. It also requires different filament current. A lot of time when a tube filament current requires more than the original tube design, it will shorten the life of the filament.

    • @MasterofPlay7
      @MasterofPlay7 Před dnem

      @@angela-gilbert thank you for prompt response! What about the small input tubes? Those ones I don't believe they need bias, changing those would change the coloration

    • @angela-gilbert
      @angela-gilbert Před dnem

      @@MasterofPlay7 Every tube needs bias. It is only the matter of manual bias or auto bias. Bias of a tube big or small is based on the current draw and the B+ supply. By plug and play without adjusting the bias, it may land on the different intended portion of the bias curve. It will works but would the sound suitable. That is the question. Therefore, by plug and play different tube into a circuit doesn't truly represent what that tube really sound like. There are so many things behind what the marketing department want to tell the public.

    Re: the unknown RCA turntable (record player) Found one with that cabinet on Kajiji, but it was sold a long time ago and the listing was gone. Wrong tonearm, though. Just looking at it's styling, I'd put it a bit earlier than what you believe. I'd say it's probably from the 1930's, judging from it's plain cabinetry and most definitely the tonearm style. By the 1940's, they were using the stamped metal tonearms. Also, it's JUST the record player, no radio or front speaker like so many others of it's era. This had to be either an add-on or something that the original purchaser had to decide on what they really wanted to hear due to budget constraints. Having looked through over a decade of RCA service manuals (1929-1942) over at worldradiohistory (forward slash archive-rca forward slash rca-service), it seems that this is probably an amalgam of old turntable parts placed in the RCA cabinet from probably the '20s or '30s, most likely what would have been a "farm" oriented unit - not flashy or ornate, but well constructed for little money. I cannot find that tonearm, Nothing in the RCA pdfs look like it. So, it still remains a mystery, but it is a cool piece of "ancient artifact".
