    True American Roofing- a few problems-
    1 the Ice&water should extend beyond the edges of W valley metal, then underlayment should be installed to center of valley, then W valley goes on top of that.
    2 W metal valleys are not to be nailed through. Each side of W should be hemmed in a brakes, clips are attached to the hem, then the clips are nailed to the roof deck. What’s the point of using metal if you’re putting holes in it? I see this WAY too often with roofers and metal valleys. Also clips allow metal to move as it expands and contracts through hot/cold cycles, otherwise it kinks.

    good job putting in the membrane in the valleys. why do u cut it length wise? we use the hole thing and normaly go with 6feet at the botton of the roof. but then again we do get bad winters

    Shouldn't there be drip edge installed prior to installing valley metal???

  • @miguelaaragon7688

    My understanding is valleys metal goes on top of underlayment

    • @roofstruction
      @roofstruction Před 6 lety +1

      the valley metal should go above the ice and water shield barrier like in this video but the ice and water was not wide enough in this video. the underlayment then would then overlap onto the ice and water but it would not need to go under the valley metal

      I just retired after 30 plus years of commercial roofing. I have modified base sheet I’ll be using for a base. This is going to be my last rodeo for shingles.

  • @elpelon10501
    @elpelon10501 Před 6 lety +1

    The A&W the using is a base sheet for peel and stick system ,second maybe no using drip edge o metal around the house because some houses use siding drip o maybe have a wood breeze board around and all depends on the place in the country the have different city codes. And any contractor do the roofs in different way some try reduce the cost of material o some one just want to do a good profesional the only thing the matter in a roof is don’t get a leaks and keep costumes happy!

    That's a lot of roof and he's got a pretty good tan- looks southern. Where is the roof ventilation? Turtle vents? Ridge vent would be even better. I hope this wasn't finished out without ventilation unless its closed cell foam inside and I don't recommend that.

    Why aren't they putting down underlayment beneath the valley?

    • @jessdynbropkins1767
      @jessdynbropkins1767 Před 6 lety +8

      Condor1970 because the underlayment goes over the valley so when water runs down the roof that runs into the valley if you put underlayment underneath the valley water will run down underneath the Valley Metal common sense

      Chuck we put a double layer of the peel-n-stick onto the valley transition on a really hot day. it stuck really good.
      then we installed the valley metal on top of that
      then we tied into the metal valley to plywood deck with peel-n-stick pn both sides of the valley metal transitions. it stuck really nicely . it must have been around 90 degrees that day. it will never leak.

    Hi there are a lot of different ways to install this rubber base -peel-n-stick in the valley transition. you can cut it to what ever length you feel comfortable to remove plastic cover on back side and set to seal. if you mess up and fold sheet in wrong direction it is expensive mess up. .
    some times we take the length in different sections
    depending on how difficult it is to set in any position.
    , this was the is easy to show the viewer how to set it into the valley transitions.
    cheers thanks for watching video.

    I would love to do some roofing in America, in Australia we don't have plywood on the roof, we have battens on top of the rafters. Running around on plywood would be awsome, does roofing over there pay well?
    I have 23 years experience as a roof tiler here in Sydney Australia.

      REVHEAD . If you can get a work US Visa ,here in South West Florida (Naples, Bonita Springs ,Ft Myers) Roofing companies are in need of experienced roofers, specialy tile crews ,you can make as much as $80dlls per sq just to lay tile. Medium size roof 45 sqs three man crew in 4 to 5 days. There's a shortage of roofers.
      Blessings.

    You're one of those guys that take the homeowners money and only does part of the jobs. I hate guys like you! You're supposed to use the whole width of the I & W shield and not cut it in half you cheapskate. Especially in the valleys. You didn't even take the valley metal all the way to the bottom so that it covers both sides of the roof at an equal distance from the middle. If you're going to put something on video at least know what you're doing. You should be embarrassed.
