Teaching the SMPs: Moving Students Towards Independence

Tracy Diekmann teaches the Standard for Mathematical Practice 3 - Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others - to her third grade classroom. In the first part of the video she explicitly teaches the standard to her students and breaks down how this SMP helps them become a good math thinker. In the second part, students can be observed moving towards independently using this standard through the use of strategic activities and scaffolds.
