    Everyone is saying pick the lock....true but consider the fact that locks break sometimes and even picking it wont do any good and it may have to be destroyed to remove it. It is a easy lock to pick though.

    Hi. I'm a rental guy. I do a lot of evictions and forced entry's. When it comes to destructive entry, NOTHING beats a cordless grinder with a segmented diamond blade. Sledge and SmartKey locks are cut open in less than a minute. Angle the 4.5" diamond blade vertically in line with the keyway and let her rip. Pins fly in seconds. Defiant and Kwiksets melt like butter.

    The reason he tore the face plate off is because there’s a harden steel thing behind it

    My lock wasn't like this on the inside, a solid metal piece with a key hole. However, the faceplate part was the same, and I was able to unscrew the two screws.
    Yay!

    So what happens when the tongue is stuck in the wall? I literally took a defiant doorknob apart using everything from a A pair of needle nose pliers,screwdriver , and a drill then finally a saws all… it took an hour and a half.

    At 1:37 you should have just drilled the screw mounts on each side. Much softer than the cylinder. 🤦🏽

    The only question I have outside of "why didn't you pick it?", "What was the purpose of tearing off the faceplate?"

    • @corbinhansen8875
      @corbinhansen8875 Před 3 lety +1

      I think the purpose of the video is to show how easy it is to drill and defeat cheap locks like defiant hardware. Personally I don't think he needed to tear the faceplate off in this scenario, but it isn't odd. The faceplates on most locks, even cheap ones like these have a faceplate that is thin, but it is made out of a harder material than the core. This makes it slightly easier for you to drill into if your going to drill out the screws. Now since he was drilling the cylinder I don't think he really needed to remove it, at least I wouldn't.

    Next time just hit the front plate with some mapp gas for 10 seconds and save 30 seconds. It falls right off. Had one of these locks frozen on my outbuilding so i used my torch and found this out by accident.

      Yes it is easy to pick my friend but unfortunately cheap locks do malfunction and you have to drill them to get them of the door. Another thing to consider too is this is a demonstration on how hard it is to drill this make of lock. Kind of a psa.
      I would pick it too if i was a locksmith and re-key it with some steel pins and security pins. It is hard to tell if a easy lock will be easy in the wild, they can be unpredictable. If all else fails drilling is one way to get the job done. Picking is a more effective method when it will work but like i said it is not always going to be a simple job. There is a possibility the guy is not skilled and just charging the customer for a new lock but we don't know if that is true.

    The drilling was only so the locksmith could charge more and sell a new lock. Could’ve picked it, SPP, even if it had a couple of spool pins, in under a minute. Would’ve saved the lock and only required new keys and repinning at the most.

    A pretty poor locksmith. A Defiant can be picked in no time. If you need to drill it you should have drilled a bit lower so not to hit the shield.
