I'm so grateful that I am from the Yu-Gi-Oh community which we do smell good because of Konami's strict ruling about hygiene in tournaments and locals. The Smash community needs to learn more about Yu-Gi-Oh mostly when it comes to hygiene regulations.

This has been happening for years G, smash players were always made fun of and they always made fun of each other for smelling bad. For how long this been going on, you think they know how to tell each other about their odor. But I forgot gamers lack basic social interaction skills.
Stuff like this just reminds me of when I stepped into the room where people were playing Guilty Gear at a UK Major after playing my pools in SF5. The backdraft just from opening the double doors alone was enough to tell you that no can of deodorant, will tame that stinky beast.
The tournament officials need to start taking accountability and not let people in the space who smell like literal shit. Simple, if you show up, and you smell terrible, you get asked to leave. No free deodorant hand outs- no "Go take a mini shower and come back.". No, if you can't bother to show up clean, get out.
Heck- I have no doubt science can prove for a fact that being around bad smells will impact the average persons ability to perform in situations like this. Someone smelling terrible, should literally be considered an unfair advantage, as it would without a doubt impact the performance of the person next to them. It should be worthy of being disqualified.

Overweight and trying to work on it like Zero did. I'm always so cautious about smells. As a larger dude myself it's so easy for it to happen. The last thing i do before i leave my house and the first thing i do when i return home is shower. Even then I'm always trying to be so extremely self aware. Nobody has said anything but I'm always wondering if it's just that. Nobody is saying anything. Im ultra paranoid about it. You'll catch me washing my clothes and then washing them immediately a second time.
Working out and showering everyday is already leaps and bounds ahead of some other ppl out here, i’d say you’re good brother

Honestly if you just shower once, wipe some deodorant, spray some kind of body spray, even something like Axe- you should be fine. Just make sure to apply deodorant before sweating, a good 10-20 minutes after a shower, after your body is cooled and skin is dry. Applying it directly to sweat can create bad smells. Axe and similar products aren't bad if you spray a small amount on say your wrist and neck. People go wrong with those sprays because they just hold down the nozzle and draw a huge X on their torsos, resulting in a ghastly smell. In the past I tried many colognes and actually preferred and used on a daily basis, Axe Anarchy for Men. I'd receive compliments on my smell while wearing it regularly enough. While other people wearing the same stuff smells absolutely disgusting. It's about how you apply it.
Also if you find you smell really bad even when doing everything right- make sure you visit the hospital. There are many medical conditions that can effect smells, such as simple diabetes.

Damn, we're living in a new age century where an article will be made about 1 smelly smash player now. It's not an article about the entire population of smash players anymore. Even after all that's said and done? That's an improvement. Just a little more etiquette compared to 3 years ago or so, where smash players had to officially get regulated iirc.

I remember about 3 years ago I played at a local monthly tournament, my opponent was a Greninja player. He was a bigger guy admittedly but damn he smelled horrible, I'm glad I ended up 2-0ing him so I could get out of there quick.

I've been to local tourney's a few times before Covid and there were a couple guys who showed up who consistently smelled like death and we were playing in a small, hot side-room of a small pawn shop lined with windows. Glad to say the third tourney was more personalized and held at an organizer's house and those two either didn't show or weren't invited.
Used to help run a local for ultimate back near release. one of the constant players always smelled so fuckin bad. Their tag was sorta weird and I googled it, turned out they had both a shit fetish and a gainer fetish, their reddit account was the same as their tag. 🤢 Dude was good enough to not go 0-2 but couldn't piece together why everyone avoided him

The art requested was harmless but after I was paid I was curious and checked his profile and saw he was an open ped0phile. I've been to smash tournaments in the Netherlands and I don't remember people smelling bad
I live in NJ and I went to my 3rd or 4th tournament ever. It was project m and it was like a year before smash 4 came out. I played against this Mewtwo player and when I tell you this guy smelled like an actual decomposing carcass.... like no exaggeration this guy smelled AWFUL 🤢🤮 I ended up just throwing the match just to get the fuck outta there and not look like I was rage quitting the match. I gave him the QUICKEST fist bump of my life and legit fast walked my ass the bathroom to wash my hands IMMEDIATELY 😨 someone came up to me after and said "yeah I can 100% tell you threw that match cause of that guys scent 😂 its actually so disrespectful that he came here to a public event smelling like that!". Suffice to say, I didnt go to another tournament until 2021 out in Temecula, California 😂😂😂

as someone who showers twice a day i can tell you it takes just 1 min of sweat to get that smell back on.
Anti-antiperspirant is key. Deodorant just masks it for a lil while.
For some, antiperspirant is the only one they can use. No joke, regular deodorant, in my case, makes me break out under my arms.
I was playing in a free darkstalkers tournament at this unique old school fighting game tournament in Ohio. The guys running it had a bracket for people who knew the game and were serious and that was paid with a prize money and the other was free and for new players. I went up against a few people but one guy… this dude had an aoe of filth around him… I played one match against him and could hardly get through it. One of the TO’s thought they made a mistake and we stopped the set. I was relieved. Then he turned right back around and realized he hadn’t. Had to play an extra game against this guy and almost just gave him the set. We went on to win and was given a cheap little medal.
The next day, the guy shows back up at the venue with the medal and the same clothes he had been wearing the day before. I kept my distance.
I will never understand how full grown adults cannot grasp a simple concept such as hygiene...

that is one of my biggest fear.... i shower daily sometimes twice a day depending if i workout that day and even before i go and workout. i wear my old spice deodorant followed by a spray of cologne.

My girlfriend (who also plays) and I were considering hosting a small tournament at our place.
We came up with the idea of having a deodorant spray attached to the door, so it would spray anyone coming in.
I got something against Cosmos ever since that time I saw a tournament where they were playing 4 in a row and he was acting dumb and wasted tons of time with his stupid over the top bs.

@@Mixhy553 Washing also doesn't work once the smell is impregnated in the clothes, it only takes little sweat to start to stink.. Signs of this is that you can see stains on the armpits of the shirt or even feels hard on that area.
If that happens, it's almost sure you need to get rid of that clothe.
