    I am just thankful I live in New Zealand where we have 240volt 40 amp safety switches on each circuit with 10/16/20 amp breakers in each row, around 3 of these 40 amp breakers per home is pretty standard now these days where I live. Go back 40 years and your safety switch board is made from the worst kind of asbestos, and ceramic breakers with fuse wire, still 240 though. :-))

      @benjaminoechsli1941 Před 2 lety

      Correct. Didn't need to add any slots or anything, they just put in 2GB chips instead of 1GB on the front. Absolutely no redesign needed.

    As a matter of fact I often find it preferable to cap the fps to 90 with Radeon chill and target around 200 - 250W it's quite nice.

      @abavariannormiepleb9470 Před 2 lety

      @@marcogenovesi8570 Normally yes…
      However there have been reports of the ECC option in NVIDIA’s drivers explicitly showing up when using the 3090 Ti - can confirm that’s not the case with a 3090. GDDR6X already has on-chip ECC (needed for this standard to function in general, isolated to the memory module contents, not active on the GPU-side), don’t know about the traces between the memory modules and the GPU package.
      That’s why when you overclock the memory frequency on GPUs with GDDR6X you’ll notice increased performance at first, going further to the edge of stability leads to a performance decrease because the error correction is kicking in correcting the data in VRAM but slowing things down, then at some point the error correction can‘t keep up and normal instabilities occur.

      @@abavariannormiepleb9470 Probably a software bug. If you enable ECC the VRAM should decrease by 1/8 because part of the VRAM is now used to store parity information. Businness cards with ECC as a feature have more RAM chips so their VRAM is still the advertised amount. Similar to ECC RAM modules for PC, that have one more RAM chip every eight.
      On-die ECC is a different thing, it is provided by dedicated electronics in each RAM chip and works regardless of drivers or memory controller support (which is also one of the reasons it is now a thing for CPUs too since Intel still refuses to allow ECC support in the memory controller).

      Using it? No active cooling on the backplate of the original 3090s is a serious design flaw (in my opinion).
      It doesn’t matter that the Micron GDDR6X memory is speced to 110 degrees Celsius, the solder connections get stressed repeatedly due to the extreme temperature jumps between idle and load and eventually you’ll get symptoms of defective VRAM.
      If yours survives the warranty period I’d install a third-party cooler that actively cools the back.
