- Windows 8 was released to the general public with mixed to negative reviews especially in relation to the Start Menu and the non-friendly desktop interface. Here's a video comparing Windows 8 with its predecessor, Windows 7.

A lot of people don't realize that Windows 8 is actually really similar and close to Windows 7. Windows 10 on the contrary, is radically different

I honestly liked both but if i had to choose one in terms of forever use , i would choose windows 7.
although 8.1 is coming to an end..i genually prefer 7 even though it ended support a few years ago..

The both are great but the problem in windows 8 is the desktop interface and the star menu and also Microsoft thinks this os will be the future of mobiles and tablets

I used win7 at home and win8.0 at the school library. Both are awesome! Better than 10! But i do prefer 7 rather that 8.0,8.1 or 10! Im stuck on 10 now, but i can use each in a vm at any time

@@qpol But if you close your eyes (don't pay so much attention to details), Don't it always seem like them two are so close (the two logos may just be so similar to each other).
Windows 8 was Great OS although got so many Hated back then. And It just works Quite Snappy and Lightweight even on Low End devices
There is a fundamental difference between Windows 7 and Windows 8

Sometimes the windows 8 UI glitches to show win 7 UI means there is an way to remove metro ui

UI : Winner Windows 7. Windows 7 is more preferred on Many than Windows 8
Technology : Winner Windows . Windows 8 is more advance than Windows 7
Stability : Winner Tie. Both OS are stable and fast. Windows 10's stability is a real hell as it is always buggy as Windows ME. I tried Windows ME. Windows ME is very bad
Customizability : Windows 8. Windows 8 is more customizable than Windows 7
USB 3x Support : Winner Windows 8. Windows 7 doesn't have a USB3 drivers for their 2009 os. USB 3 came out on 2008. Supposedly Windows xp sp3, Windows Vista Sp1 and Windows 7 RTM have it. But MS is too delayed. It actually took 4 years before USB 3x support is added. It was actually Windows 8 having this
Modernization : Windows 8. Windows 8 is more modern than Windows 7. But Windows 7 is still a part of Modern OS. Because All OS Starting from Windows xp are modern. But For some reason. Windows 7 is just a little bit outdated
Battery Life : Windows 8. Windows 7's UI is too battery intensive. Windows 8's opaque design just not only looks colorful. It also makes a huge improvements on System resources
Performance : Windows 8. Windows 8 is faster than Windows 7 in terms of Boot time, Usage and whatsoever
Security : Windows 8. Windows 8 wins on Security because of Secure boot support and EFI Support. Windows 7 still needs CSM in order to work on EFI Systems. Windows 8 does not require this one
Final questions : Which one Wins ? Windows 7 or Windows 8 ?
The answer is : In terms of UI Windows 7 wins. Windows 8's new metro just failed to enhanced it. A lot of Unhappy users just struggle to learn Windows 8 and ending up downgrading to Windows 7.
In terms of Performance, Security, Modernization, Customizability, USB 3x support and Modern Hardware support. Windows 8 wins. Windows 8 has a more faster Speed than Windows 7. Windows 8 is more modern. Most of the core of Windows 8 are still used on Windows 10 and 11. Customizability is more higher. As users can change the Start Screen colors, Backgrounds where it's not Possible on Win7. Changing the log in screen background is also A thing on Win8 that is not possible on Wn7. Windows 8 is the oldest os to support the Newest USB3x that came out in 2008. MS is just too lazy for Windows 7 for the USB3x driver. The Security is higher in Windows 8.
Windows 7 is a prime target of Malware creators while Windows 8 is less likely to have malware because of it's Security Measures.
In terms of stability : Both OS wins
In terms of Business use : Windows 7 is widely used than Windows 8
Actually Windows 8 is a modded version of Windows 7. Windows 10 feels like 7 but It's too different.
I see that Windows 8 and Windows 7's taskbar is too similar With an exception of Win8 without the start button. Clicking on the Clock and other notifications feels same. On Win10 It's just flatted
I see Windows 8's Personalization panel is the same as Windows 7's
The Kernel is just upgraded on Win8 similar to XP and Server 2003
The Icons are so same. Not so different
The Only changes on explorer is The ribbon. Win8 uses ribbon and Win7 uses the command bar
The Login screen is basically flatten and Using horizontal scrolls instead of Vertical
Everything is just modded and slightly changed on the 1st place. On Win10 it's radially different. Everything is flatten on Win10
Windows 7 hands down. (Although id pick vista if it was compared to the 2)

I would never install Windows 7 on an OLD PC. Not because of Security reasons (there are ways to bypass that) but because of the lack of software support and speed on older Hardware. Generally said, Windows 8 is faster than Windows 7 and it supports a wider range of Apps (latest version of Firefox and Microsoft Office with some modifications)

When I see Windows 8.x and Windows 7/Vista, I was suprised, they were beautiful and modern but now, Windows 11 is a garbage with the stolen design from MacOS
