    My EM2 has 215k miles (over 100k on the replaced D17) and is going through oil like crazy! I am literally adding roughly 2 qts between fill ups lol 😂. I'll be doing this exact same refresh myself, thank you brotha for posting this!

      Mines the opposite it has gas getting into the oil I think the rings are bad because I swear it’s half gas and half oil at this moment I need to rebuild it I’ve got 240k on mine 😑

    You didn't have to take all that off for the rod bolts, you just had to take the oil pan off. Did my rod bolts in the spring and I was able to slide them out and back in from below. You just have to do 1 at a time. Although doing the other stuff you did isn't a bad idea while making the rod bolts easier, I wasn't bothered with only being at 59,000 miles.
    Keep up the videos, love the series. Big fan so far!

    I'm not much of an expert when it comes to D series engines, but does ARP make main bolts or studs for the D series? I rebuilt my JDM D15B VTEC before I boosted it and that car ALWAYS ran great, even with an eBay turbo kit. I ran that thing on 8 psi to 9k between shifts on a bone stock valvetrain and all it did was take it. Yeah it was alot of fun for $500 and some know how. Then when I was tired of having no low end torque, I swapped in a junkyard LS, rebuilt it with new rings, bearings, Gates Racing belt, new water pump, ported and shimmed oil pump, supporting mods like ARP head studs, rod studs, Cometic HG, and swapped the turbo kit over with a new manifold and on 8 psi it would smoke slightly modified SRT4s in my EJ8 coupe. Now she's a fully built LSVTEC and there's no eBay parts on it. Made 588 with a stock CTR head on 22 psi on a GT3582R. Going Thursday for a retune on the new setup, same engine.

    • @PirateGarage
      @PirateGarage  Před 5 lety +3

      You multiply the diameter in inches by 0.05 on the top ring and 0.0055 on the second, the rings were 0.0015 and 0.0016 out of the box so I didn't have to mess with them

    What could make my excellent running D17 (2002 EX) have a bit of a knock from the head area only at certain RPM. I never hear it in 5th if I drive 62 mph or under or 74 and over. Between 62 mph and 74 mph with engine warm there can frequently be a bit of a knock it sounds like. Or could it be the VTEC? VTEC does work in my car and the car runs excellent otherwise with no codes 37 mpg. Knock sensor ??
