I loved the gameplay and story I loved the high republic and darkside cal its fun and I love it
I'm actually impressed with how much they go into the High Republic Era. As of now it's only been told in books but they did a good job explaining it here
The high republic sucks for one reason, it’s only 200 to 300 years before the clone wars. Yoda was around and already old

As someone who loves all the movies, shows, books, and comics, I gotta say both of the Jedi games are my favorite stories in Star Wars. Already replaying Survivor.

i already finished the game, the thing that annoyed me so much is ike a day or 2 after the game there was a video that totally spoiled a certain cameo for me, I don't want to spoil it to anyone elese so ill just say it's connected to the end of hunting the bounty hunters quest. It just pop out of my suggestions here and the Thumbnail of the video was said cameo with the title saying the cameo with no "spoiler" or anything. After that I just avoided YT until I finished the game.
I got spoiled of both cameos day 1😂 don't care iam excited to see them I still haven't reached the part of the story which they show up

Completely agree with your thoughts. So many moments that had me grinning like a kid watching the movies for the first time. Really hope they can make a 3rd game that can nail down this trilogy.
Also I can't imagine how much better received this game would've been had they released it after fixing the major performance issues. The conversation around it would be almost entirely positive, I'm sure.

Yeah but i get why they wouldn’t want it out at the same time as zelda and other big titles. The best thing this game can do is to make a boatload of money so respawn can have as big a budget as they need for the third act.
I'd love more Jedi Survivor stuff, especially low-spoiler stuff like this. Right now I really want to play this game but the performance issues on PC prevent it, so until the game is patched to a functional state videos like these are all I have to sate my cravings.
Just finished the game on grandmaster difficulty. It was more Than pain in the ass. I was hitting the table like 20 30 Times during the bosses. 3 of the last bosses i tried around 200 each to beat them. Eventually i learned to play against them éven tho i had huge frame drops.. 🎉🎉 The story insanely good.

8:46 yes but GOT made the stances for specific enemies. Survivor stances are made to be usable against all enemies. Can’t tell you how many times I was annoyed by GOT telling me to change out of wind stance because you’re not supposed to kick non spear enemies.
I mean the double bladed saber was always my go to for blaster enemies because of its good blocking, crossguard felt abit slow but once I got the hang of it that was my other go to. Blaster was fun on weaker enemies but did almost nothing to most slightly stronger enemies.

Use the perk that increases blaster damage and get the charge shot upgrade from Caij and you’ll backtrack your statement. My least favorite was crossguard. To slow and impossible to punish enemies when fighting 2 or more medium strength or better enemies

You Are the goat man keep it up
Just finished Survivor and I would like to share my experience and make this, just like you, alphabet-chaos analysis. As a full-time almost-obsessive perfectionist, it's hard for me to see 99% greatness if there's 1% flaws, also, I was pretty much speedrunning it due to my 'only for a month access' to it, that's why it troubles me that I cannot simply emerge it fully and call this game a masterpiece, I guess it will happen with time, but I am thankful that it is commonly said that Survivor is phenomenal, because it for sure is.
(some spoilers in review, sorry)
First, gameplay, graphics, music etc. is amazing (not saying about performance issuse, I think it's good now). I am more of a 'story gamer', so I put almost all my focus on plot, but yeah, everything else in game is done really great. The love and dedication for SW is just there, and is so nice to finally see it in modern SW projects.
But of course, there are some small things that I just wish there would be a little different, but I hope there will be maybe installed in the third game - just some nice "gameplay arc" ;)
As you said, all stances would be awesome, dual wield with different colours too and full customisation of Mantis also. That's it for me from gameplay perspective, it's really just well done, so I will move to plot section.
Let's start from the first game.
In JFO, I would say that story orbites around question of overcoming and growing - can Cal The Scrapper be a Jedi again? Can Cal accept and overcome past? Can Cere win the struggle with Dark Side and guilt? Can Trilla come back to light? Even, can Greez stop his reckless, gambling and isolated from others way of living? And last, can the Order be built again? That's the core, but it also showed in a good way how the remaining of Jedi can end in this fresh-Empired-ruled galaxy - hiding, living common life without the Force or fall to the Dark Side, due to Empire or not.
Star Wars Jedi (Padawan): Fallen Order did everything what it wanted to do in a perfect way, it is a great game.
Second one's plot is a gigantic step forward. It has amazing Star Wars lore, like High Republic content, great side characters, well-written dialogue and overall cool next adventure for our Mantis crew, but I am most impressed, just like in JFO, by its main motive. Like the title, now it makes a question about how to function in present reality, how to not only survive, but also live. Almost every character has his own answer to that, Mantis crew too - Cal focuses about present fight for future good, Merrin wants to live her life now, to find happiness and help others do the same, Greez wants his small dream to come true and Cere tries to secure the past, the legacy of Jedi Order. But that's not all. The plot is also about what is dear to us, how we want to keep, defend, secure it and how this goal can consume us (Merrin's talk about fire, damn I love this game).
Dagan is, I would say, the tool to show 'the worst case scenario' - how far we can fall. He, a Jedi, had to abandon something that was his life's work, his discovery, due to Order and he wasn't ready for it. He was crossing the line until it was to late. Santari still wanted to give him a chance in abandoning the path of obsession (a quick word, I wish Santari was a bit more interesting, just a little more personality or uniqueness but she's fine), but Dagan, due to his own decisions, found himself too late. Overall, he's a good character, but I am just a little regretful that he wasn't polished enough, that the story doesn't really makes us care about him and his fate. If there were for example more flashback scenes with his effort in discovering Tanalorr, building the temple, defending it and feeling betrayed by Council's order, I think his story would be more engaging, relatable and tragic, cause at some point he simply became for me a maniac constantly shouting about Tanalorr, and that's a pity. But I guess he isn't that important in a whole story, so he plays his role fine and gives us an example of this 'worst case scenario' pretty well.
Of course, this hell-long review needs a section about Bode. He's such a well-written character, not only for the plot twist, but for a person that characters and player care about too. His personality is interesting and likeable, but his role and how it's written is on another level. His life story, motives, how he is and isn't an enemy, I am so impressed by every detail the writers thought about. I would only say that they could give him a little more dialogue explaining why he wants Tanalorr to be only for him and his daughter. Maybe that's only me, but shortly after finishing the game, I didn't get it why the final fight was necessary, only after I studied his character (that, similiarly to Dagan, what was the most important for him, Kata's safety, started to consume him, made him cross the line too many times and lose some moral code, that this man who lost his dear wife and believed that working with Empire is the only way became unable to fully trust anyone in Galaxy, cause he damn well knows that anyone can be an agent, so in his mind he was the only one who could safe Kata) that I finally understood the tragic in the last scenes. Again, maybe that's me, but I am simply sad when player need just one specific line of dialogue to understand something as important as motivations in the right time.
Finishing with characters, Cal and Cere are in my opinion flawless-written in the game, in the core motive. Cal shows us the struggle, finding the balance in being active and not losing himself, on the other hand Cere is 'anty-Dagan', a person who tries to safe what's her dear, but always ready to let it go in the right time.
Lastly, I need to say a word about side characters who died in game, Cal's crew and Brother Armaias. Again, I found myself yearning for maybe a scene, dialogue, flashback that could simply make me care about them. I am sorry but I don't think anyone really cared about Cal's crew's fate, anyone could somehow sense it, so it would be nice if we, just like Cal, care about it. For example, one flashback at the right time about preparing the mission when player could get to know the crew, their personalities etc. The same with Brother Armaias, maybe show us how he talks with Cal before, shows him his room to stay, meal or something, even a compliment, joke, anything. Their deaths may then be more emotional, being at least just a little as sad as Cere's. But these characters are were little important, so this whole section is just me being an obsessive perfectonist, excuse me.
Finally, those are my thoughts about why Star Wars Jedi (Knight): Survivor is almost a masterpiece. I love this game very much and I can't wait to see where the writers will take us in the third game.
To anyone who read this all, I would like to give you an achievement "Patience You Really Have, My Young Padawan"
Lmao I’ve already been spoiled to the major boss fight at the end and the big plot twist and I just got through to second fight with dagan. Just from thumbnails
Couldn't kill the 9th sister (first boss). Literally got her health to zero and the cut scene didn't kick in, nor did the prompt to use triangle (on Ps5) appear. restarted the PlayStation after dying and it went through fine.
5:30 that's why I only buy games 6 to 12 months after release... in 104 hours I only had one crash and 2-3 minor texture/clipping bugs.

Great review, it is a great Star Wars game indeed, the story was well done as were the set pieces and acting. Just finished my play trough and will definitely return for new game plus. Played on series x. A frame rate drop here and there on performance mode but yeah, great stuff
I can see how the stances limit can be annoying, but fortunately there's a lot of meditation points and I found it better to keep balancing my playstyles depending to the area. In Koboh I might use the double sword and the blaster sword, then for a boss fight I'll use the crossguard and the dual swords for example. It makes it easier for me to focus on the fight, and I keep discovering how each stance can work against all enemies. It's something minor in my opinion but I can totally see your point.
Overall, the game is a masterpiece in my book. Fallen Order already was, in my opinion, the boldest game in 2019. No one would accomplish such blend of genres in an established IP and be successful telling and actually compelling story. Survivor only builds upon those concepts and continues the story in the best way it could have. I just want to keep playing Survivor until the next game comes out, man. It's that good.

All the bugs have been ironed out now I can buy it in November.
Jedi Survivor is a 7/10 triple-A game that's nowhere near a masterpiece. It's good and fun to play but it's many tiers below real masterpieces like RDR2, TLOU2 or GTA IV. There are a lot of things that hold this game back:
1. The performance is absolutely terrible, especially on PC.
2. The gameplay design is extremely safe, predictable and outdated. The game never tries to be truly creative and it just rehashes ideas we've seen a hundred times before in other games like God of War, Tomb Raider or souls games.
3. The story is kind of convoluted and it relies on a lot of contrivances and convenient accidents.
4. The loot system is boring and unrewarding because the rewards are purely cosmetic.
5. Some gameplay decisions make no sense. For example, the idea to limit available stances to 2 at a time is insanely stupid. Not only does it make combat less varied than it could have been, but it also ensures that stances have no depth (cuz they have to be interchangeable and generic enough), and it ensures that stances can never be incorporated into traversal or puzzles. For example, you can't have any puzzles that require you to use a blaster simply because the player might not have the blaster stance equipped at the time. This is a huge missed opportunity.
This is a truly hilarious comment. TLOU2 the king of contrivance and safe gameplay design is what you consider many tiers above this? Also RdR2 while a great game plays like dogshit and the director of this game directed gow3 so there’s a reason for that complaint.

Funny when I first followed you it was for some RDR2 content and then I was shocked to see you were also a big mass effect fan and now seems you were as much of a fan of Fallen order as I was and I have to agree with this game being so close to a masterpeice. I played on ps5 and had a few crashes and some framerate drops and then little glitches like not being able to switch stances or my xp not being there after dying but nothing that hindered my enjoyment whatsoever.
Leading up to the game I was worried because of how much I loved Fallen order but it being a star wars project in 2023 didnt give me hope considering how so much of it has been going and also ive heard absolutely nothing good about anything to do with the high republic. But god damn that story really was so fucking good,I didnt see the stuff coming at the end at all either. That said it felt like entirely different teams working on the main story and the side stuff, not that all of the side content was bad but it definitely had that modern 2023 spin to say the least. Caij was really cool but also clearly a Cad Bane rip off.
Combat was great but whoever designed those fractured reality fights is an evil fuck. Getting through those on grandmaster was absolute hell for a few of them like double Oggdo,double rancor and the 3 legendary beasts and those fights kinda made the major bosses feel easy as they were alot more of a fair real fight but other than those I loved the combat so much, I always felt like I wanted alot more time in fallen order once you get to full power and then we got a whole new game like that so I am very pleased.
I just completely finished it and got the platinum last night and immediately started a new game + as well. Wanna run through it again without ridiculous hours of loot hunting inbetween the story
Has anyone else been having issues with the bounties? I got 11/16 and I already killed one of the top guys, and now I can’t get anymore from Caij… how do I fix this?
Completely different style of game but Dante is Devil May Cry 4 and 5 has a style wheel controlled through the D-pad, with a 5th one being used by double tapping one of them. Wish the game could have done that personally

Put on the Purity and Fortitude perk on my NG+ playthrough (Grandmaster difficulty) and it turned into Heaven and Hell difficulty from Devil May Cry. Almost everything dies in one-hit, and almost everything kills me in one-hit.
Hmm... The Glass Cannon mode. Sounds like my kinda challenge. May consider that if I feel like replaying it.
Bro purity on grandmaster is crazy lol. Bosses were actually easy. Its the warrior perk and tons of high end droids that one/two shot you that’s frustrating lol. Confusion is a massive help with non droids.

My only issues were these
1) The High Republic stations began feeling very samey. They should have made the cloud station more like the Empire Strikes Back cloud city for example. This would have helped with veriety.
2) The goo you find all over these stations makes it look worse. They could have gone with a different design or hue. Black goo is so typical
3) It felt like the game had just a smidge fewer action set pieces compared to the base game. This puzzled me a bit. However those that were there felt more elaborate.
4) The variety in planets and locations and revisitations didnt sit right with me. It could have been handled slightly different
5) Some locations had these very video-gamey layouts that had to be there for the gameplay. But it really broke immersion for me at times. It felt way more jarring than in Fallen Order honestly, where I didnt mind it being there here it was noticeable.
Allot of these points are moreso gut feeling issues rather than deal breakers I admit. But I’m still torn in them nonetheles because it keeps the game from being perfect in my eyes. But maybe this is a rare case where a replay is nessecary I dont know. I never had to do this before..

This is the Perfect review sir. This game is indeed a Masterpiece released a couple months too early. It's gameplay is so damn near perfect. It's fun as hell. It can kick your ass at times, but when the game works, i never feel like it's unfair. I only feel like i messed up the timing of that parry. The story and characters are all Amazing. And i loved almost every single second of it. Except for when the framerate hit the slide show stage on performance mode and the button imputs wouldn't work, forcing me to restart AND the game didn't crash. Because at multiple points i had to quit the game because a key path was blocked because the button importans on screen wouldn't work. ''Hit R2 to open this door'' but nothing happens. This broke up a few good story moments for me. And upo launch i had to stop playing and wait for that first patch. Because the framerate wasn't even video at some points. The first patch made the game more playable.
I also do agree with the stance issue. The stances are great fun. But i did end up not using any but my two favorite tances because i couldn't switch on the fly. The blaster stance was great fun. The double bladed stance is also cool. But in the end i had to pick speed and power. Wich is why i ended up sticking with Dual Wield and the Crossguard saber. Both once you learn to use them are all you'll ever need. The crossguard as an OP deflect wich deals alot of damage on returning blaster bolts. It's a slower moving saber. But if you time those heavy swipes right, you really will end up destroying most bosses with ease. But again, timing is the key. Took me a Solid 40 hours to beat the game. I did take my time to explore the game. Every new ability made me backtrack to areas i couldn't reach. I ended up finding all the stims i believe. I have 11 stims. Heard the game has 10 stims + the perk that offer and extra one. That made the last Boss far easyer to do. And i have most of the skills as well. Right now i'm just grinding the bounty missions. May be looking into the Platinum as i got it for Fallen Order. It wasn't hard, just a bit annoying and time consuming. So hopefully this Plat isn't much worse.
Now all we need is a Star Wars game based on a Sith or Inquisitor. Or an open world Star Wars RPG where you play as a Jedi, Fallen Jedi or Sith and have all the abilities available. Cause the lack of any real dark side abilities in here was a let down. No force choke or lightning. Only thing is a dark side rage force slow which you only have available for two missions...two...
My experience with the game, while overall positive, was soured by a few crashes in unfortunate places meaning I had to replay tough boss fights I'd beaten but not had the chance to save afterwards.
I do like the game a lot and I think in time I'll like it a lot more than I do now but in this moment it's hard not to be a little irritated at the game
My game crashed right before moving to a planet multiple times in a row, was worried it would be stuck but it ended up fine
My biggest issue with this otherwise fun game was the plot was really weak. Dagan and Santari spent great effort to map out the abyss only to fail until Dagan risked himself to fly it. Then the Jedi Council abandoned Tanalore when it was attacked by someone else who got through the abyss. Now the current game plot was to get back to Tanalore to be safe from the Empire? What about the previous attackers? What makes Cal think that nobody should law would find a way through?

My only gripe with the game was the stories length. To me it felt like the end just snuck up on me. I completed it in like 18 hours and when it released i didn't have a lot of spare time to invest into playing it. I was expecting about 30 hours and thus was surprised when it ended. I wouldn't say it was rushed in anyway, it just felt like it just ended.
I felt this way too….literally just finished it and I wasn’t expecting it to end there….I thought I had a good fifth of the game left because I was only 54% of the way through last night and I started it on Friday… was a great play through though

I don’t get this? None of the intensive action sequences kicking in every quarter of the way through the game tipped you off that you were further into the game than you thought? Or any of the planets you kept traveling between? Or even the boss fights? I’m not trying to be rude but there were plenty of indicators that you were getting closer and closer towards the end, I thought it would be over when we beat Dagan Gera but I was surprised that the game kept going, so I actually thought it was getting quite long.
@@EmmaGreiA games percentage is never a good indicator of story completion, the game Yakuza 5 has a really long story and it only adds up to somewhere between 10-15% of the total completion, and it came out in 2012 if I remember right.

I really enjoyed the game but it is unstable. Crashes a bunch, unstable frame rate, screen tearing in performance mode.
Mechanically it's great. When ye get the dash ability, mobility becomes rad (shout out to that Force Tear that is all green gates). A couple story negatives I have are well, first of all, keeps with that Star Wars sillyness of anger being "The Evil Emotion" (tying emotions to morality is so bafflingly weird to me) but that's Star Wars for you and also (spoilers) the story kinda deals with the antaganists like 2/3 thru the game and then suddenly conjurs another one (maybe I'd feel better if it was apparent something was off earlier)
Something I noticed, it feels like post-prequel era everyone kinda dropped that "no attatchments" thing, and it seems like Cal had a line about not letting the Jedi Order define him anymore. That could be great if they run with that bc you know it's possible to have healthy relationships with people and yourself and not do a Space Fascism elemayo.
Cal grew on me a lot in this game, where as in Fallen Order I felt he was a little milquetoast.
Delete the almost and put aside spec FPS drops and it is a masterpiece.
Soo. Its at least a proffesional piece? Expert piece? Its at least VERY good! The plot twists were gut punching qnd face kicking, not least badass to say the least. Long since have a game, a sw game even caught me so off guard😲
The FOV is amazing, as compared to God of War 2018.

I’m going to be honest. I can tell that I love this game. I’ve wanted it and been excited for ages. But right now with how it currently performs on the series x and my pc. I’m upset. I have an I-9 and a 3080 and my game consistently drops to 40 fps on koboh. And the stutters. The fucking stutters. I see people playing the game and loving it like that. But I just can’t. It’s miserable to know a game is good but just can’t run well.

First player i was surprised how well coruscant was done, it feels very alive
But something about fallen order got me thinking. I feel, very alone most of the time playing it. Like, its a scary feeling…
Performance was a mixed bag for me on PS5, but it was mostly minor stuff that I could personally look past.
BUT, I did one into one major issue after the patch. My game crashed for the first time which normally wouldn't be a problem, but it corrupted my save, and while some data could be recovered, I wound up losing about eight hours of progress, and that was a real kick in the teeth.
Otherwise, I absolutely loved the game and, at its core, might just be my favorite Star Wars game.
I believe save corruption can occur if the app crashes/closes mid-saving. Fortunately haven't had that but it has absolutely crashed a bunch and I think it's been more likely to crash if in performance mode (which sucks but like it barely holds 60FPS as is and fortunately Cal controls great enough that I atleast could adapt).
The main story is amazing.
But the side missions are so bad that I just went for a new game plus instead.
In the witcher 3 you'd finish the main game and could still do many missions that introduced new enemies and expanded the lore.
In jedi survivor you just fight the same recycled twats and there's nothing new to the lore.
I still think survivor is a strong 9/10 but it doesn't have enough to push it to the perfect score for me

These problems alone make me violently angry against modern publisher that have the audacity to put on the market shit like that and use customers as beta testers
But that aside I would not consider this game a masterpiece by any meter or point of view

Surely it has an interesting and sometimes funny gameplay
Combat is especially funny and fluid
Except against mixed range/melee enemy
In that case is a coin flip if you can do a masterful 0hit perfect stubbing combo and kill everyone or die horribly by being staggered repeatedly by unseen attacks
Exploration is done pretty well especially into the vertical department with player constantly looking for new platform to explore or cliff to conquer
The problem is that rewards are kinda meh with bland cosmetic items or slight power up of your main hud bars
The story suffer a lot
The canonic classic first trilogy and the second one centered around anakin make extremely clear that indioendently from the player action we will not represent a treath to the empire
We will not defeat Vader or the emperor
The fact that cal is a giant retcon is enough to complete castrate is potential story
The story so far is completely generic and I struggle to care for anyone except greez
The new pistol wielding mercenary
(So bland that I struggle to remember his name…. Cato I believe? The only other survivor from tutorial mission anyway) has a giant traitor neon sign over his head
The fact that he survived the Coruscant escape and that he has a mantis tracker from cal his enough to make him instantly sus
Especially considering that in the the tutorial he was interested into credit payment
But in kobol he seems ready to be rebellion fighter draft number 1576 eager the sign up and seems completely unfazed by the direct admission of cal that he has not credits for him
Yeah
Or he is the most blatant traitor of recent memory
Or he is one of the worse written characters of recent memory
There is no middle ground
Just to make a quick example
Even by giving the benefit of the doubt I cannot see anything we will be doing having any real meaning given the fact that the films never mention cal or his role
It has a funny gameplay decent combat and a generic story with no interesting potential developement in sight

Dark soul is a masterpiece
Games that have incredible stories, unique and deep gameplay or extreme longevity and replaybility
I will end the game but I am already sure I will never touch it again after ending it

A masterpiece is something that you return to

@@theworldbreaker ps5 is not to my knowledge but i think xbox might, its not too bad for pc but to put it in perspective i have a 4070 ti with all epic settings and ray tracing on and i get ab 40 to 90 depending where im at
@@theworldbreaker Depends entirely on your system. These next gen titles put strain on all your components and if just one is lacking it could butcher your framerate or stability.
I've already 100% the entire game on my rig. CPU utilization is pretty underwhelming, but the game was extremely stable for me compared to other games at launch and had 1 crash in 40h of gametime.

Sizeable agree. Can't do it to myself, I tested it to see if it functions and it's useful but I don't like its sluggishness nor do I like the crossguard's aesthetic.

@@Fizhy well… i havent been experiencing any bugs as of now. Im on the Series X and not much interrupted my play-through. Though i have seen others experiencing the issues. Maybe im just one of the lucky ones.

I really wouldn’t call this one a masterpiece or even close… the lore and story is great but there are so many things in the game that are just frustrating instead of being fun. I think people weren’t critical enough of some of these issues in fallen order because it was the first quality Star Wars game in quite some time

STAR WARS DEVS ARE PATHETIC! I'm playing on XSX and I have to say, N64 games ran better than this! Atari 2600 from the 1970's ran games better!!! Massive FPS staggering and constant screen tear! Sick and tired of paying $70 for broken games. It seems the more powerful the systems get, the worse they run!!!

The technical state it released in is unacceptable. The game itself however is actually really fun and some of the places you visit are downright great.
I don't consult Metacritic before giving my opinions.
