This is possibly my favorite room makeover yet - and it's a particularly meaningful one as I transform my own small bedroom. I'm mixing thrift finds, antiques, peel and stick wallpaper, tiles, and much more -- all renter friendly. This project has been a long time in the making and it was such a gift to be able to design fully for myself. Thanks for coming along on this project, I hope you love it. đ

Itâs SO refreshing to find an interior CZcamsr who also leans towards the more classic and traditional style. I love a traditional space with more modern and contemporary accents, I find itâs usually the opposite on here (modern with touches of classic/vintage/etc) your space is beautiful!
Same.
Dude brook linen is EXPENSIVE bougey sheets! Like $100 for just a flat sheet!
You want superior quality linens? Target. For $20 you can get a sheet set from their essentials line. Legit the BEST SOFTEST sheets Iâve ever slept on. Suck it brooklinen đđżđ©
Agreed. I have a 1920s bungalow, and when we had our basement redone they came back with a very "suburban builder" style and layout. My husband and I noped that concept and said if we wanted a suburban feel we would have moved to the suburbs. We actually retained the original support beam and will be using it in our pergola design next year! Reduce, reuse, recycle â»ïž
Agree!
Came here to say this same thing!
I must say the reason I'm attracted to your channel is due to your honesty and realistic approach to things. Its really nice to see someone renovate or decorate a room on a realistic budget, which can be done by anyone on any budget. It's really refreshing.
I love to hear this, thanks so much Ivry â€ïž
I agree with Ivry, you're wry and realistic.
Absolutely, I'm an ex-interior designer and Caroline is spot on! Very refreshing
I read this as soon as she said "I would sleep best in a crib" đ€Ł
Thatâs actually the reason why anyone watches any channel itâs when someone is genuine and that we (the audience) like it. You figured out the âhackâ just be genuine and real
I'm 41 years old and I've never had a spot that feels like home. Your whole mentality to decorating and design and your wry silly humor and honesty are absolutely what I need after a long slogging day. This channel has become what I do to wind down and get tons of inspiration and recapture some of my own essence of silliness. thank you, like a lot.
âYou donât have to wait for your forever homeâŠâ
That hit home for me.
Iâm currently living in my 28. home and Iâm not done moving.
However financially Iâm stuck here, because I canât afford to move and I canât afford to stay.
I feel like Iâm living in a waiting room.
But what you said - Iâm already up and ready to make a home out of my waiting room.
Thank you â€ïž
And the bedroom is soooo beautiful and personal.
I love this metaphor!! I hope this process is going well for you!
Thereâs literally NOTHING I donât like about you.
Your style, talent, voice, humor! I needed a âIâm not like other CZcamsrsâ CZcamsr đ
This is going straight to my ego THANK YOU
she reminds me so much of Jennifer Aniston! Love her humor!
And its ok if goes to your ego Caroline. That makes you who you are and contributes to why we subscribe. Keep keeping it real!!
*+ your brother, what a dime
@@calissippigirl yes, her voice!
This is one of the BEST renter-friendly bedroom Renoâs Iâve seen. So elegant but still playful & practical.
Donât make me cry đ„Č

I'm a very old lady fighting the winter blues and find your videos refreshing ! Love your projects and am actually inspired to climb out of my black hole and try some new ideas . Thank you âŁïž
As a dental assistant I can tell you: When you're whitening your teeth, you should avoid black coffee until 48 hours after the bleaching - use flourid fluid as post-treatment (it closes the enamel structure and avoid color particles to enter). If you love your coffee as much as the air you breathe (like I do), put a lot of milk in it - it REALLY works and avoids tooth-coloring in a long time term (dunno if this sentence is makes sense - I'm german)! Green tea leaves gray stains, black tea obviously black/brown spots. But 2 days later you should be totally fine. I would try white tea - it's actually pretty nice. by the way: I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS. I'm binging them for hours now. đ
Suggestion. Stack some wood of some sort in the fireplace it will make it look real and a lot more cozy
Ooh I like this! Esp if she does the battery operated tall candles behind/ throughout đ
Girl, that room is insane! The colors are gorgeous and the choice of wallpaper on the ceiling makes the whole room come alive. Love love love it! Have a good weekend!
So glad you like it, have the best weekend!đ„°
âSometimes we have ideas, but the ideas arenât in the order they need to beâ I am wheezing! I love the honesty in your channel and design approach
Caroline, I thought I was a lost cause but the more I look at your videos the more I am inspired to just do something, anything at all that would be an improvement on the constant chaos that surrounds me. I am 58 and have ADHD and it borders on impossible for me to create order and calmness anywhere and I know you will think this is crayzeeee but I am so proud of myself because after four years of living in this house, which I own, I have finally managed to decorate the top of my beautiful, custom made mantle with a small selection (small is a huge achievement for me) of cohesive objects that I love and it looks so cool. I am now inspired to try and find the floor of my bedroom and do something with that bedlam with a bed. Thanks a mill from a grateful subscriber in Ireland đđ
From a fellow ADHDer: hell yeah. Celebrate yourself because sometimes small is significant!
it looks damn good and respectfully, so does luke. well done đ„
I literally am shocked there arenât more comment about Lukeâs um, equality to the roomâs attractiveness?đ Yours was the first I found. Lol and she is so talented and beautiful, what a duo!
I completely agree.... and Luke is đ„đ„đ„đ„đ„

After a week of binge watching your stuff in non-chronicological order, I have indeed âliked and subscribedâ because youâre helping me and I wanna help you and it took me all of .5 seconds. Love you, love your stuff. Keep on keeping on.
Saaame
I've got a feeling that going through this channel is going to be better than any binge Netflix could ever provide
I am an old lady interior designer and a new big fan. I learned fresh things from you and most especially I learned about a shift in perspective and attitude. I think you are going places and I am eager to witness.
Nothing specifically trendy; classic somehow but fresh, modern and a bit edgy at the same time. I love every bit of it and I learned a lot too. You explain your thinking very well and itâs so helpful.
I appreciate how you break it down to phases and don't have just useless trendy decor items from homesense. useful can be beautiful. Love your humourđ
You and your brother are heroes by doing wallpaper on the selling!?!?!?!? Just put a wallpaper on walls is a huge challenge but wallpaper on the selling--just wow. The decor is so beautifully balanced. I started watching your videos just for a two- three days. Your suggestions are valuable and practical.
Iâm a Granny .Iâve hung more old school wallpaper on both walls and ceilings( even the prehistoric paste it yourself stuff)in my Victorian revival world. Just bought a downsize cottagecore type home and I was just about to turn in my snap line and ladder forever due to frustration with peel and stick but youâve given me hope. I absolutely love those William Morris prints!
1. Iâm obsessed with this and I canât wait to redo my place. The Etsy tips are my favorite because I search high and low for sconces and curtains that arenât blah and you nailed it! 2. Your brother is hot, there I said it.
Hahaha Iâve heard #2 my whole life, heâs a gem! Thanks for such a sweet comment, glad u liked it!
Yeah, definitely got a cute brother. I have adult sons, so I know.
Heâs handsome
Someone had to! Glad you did. Also ditto on the Etsy thing.
He is hawt tho! I think it as well hehe đ«¶đœ
I loved this so much! The design, the humor, the relationship with your brother, your cousinâs art, the tips, all of it!! *ignores all warnings and orders wallpaper for my ceiling*
đ youâre a brave soul
âWallpaper the ceiling⊠itâs gonna be dope as heckâ đ
So glad, you emphasize home and not the baloney premise that mortgage lenders push, false mentality of pride of home ownership. I own my tiny mobile home but pay space rent. Absolutely love it. Home is about people, family, neighbors and friends whom we love. I canât afford to buy a house, but I can afford to live comfortably and happily in my tiny house.
you had me fall in love at the first 45 seconds, and I had to come comment even before watching this. the design industry is so arrogant, it baffles me how they think only those with "taste, style and money" deserves their attention.
Girl yess!!! â€ïžâ€ïž so glad you agree
What I mostly loved about this redesign is your approach on art, especially when you talked about the piece your cousin made. Just hearing you talk about what it meant while
looking at the canvas made me feel so many things. I think where a lot of interior designers miss the mark
for me is their superficial approach on art as just an accessory that has to âgoâ with the rest of the decor. I love the âstart with the artâ approach, where you curate a meaningful and valuable collection (valuable to you, not necessarily in an investment sense) and build your spaces around that.
I deeply agree with you. đ
Love the cousin's piece and the story!
My "art" is such a crazy collection of original pieces, prints, found art, post/birthday cards that I liked the image and framed, one of my favorites is the framed telegram and envelope informing my grandparents of my month early birth while they were traveling internationally. 1970 so no interwebs or cell phones. I just want to have pieces that I have an affinity for, it's my space and I want things that are for me.
I love how Caroline doesn't preplan way too much cause she has a life to live! Just the example I need
Anyone else love her siblings? her brother is so sweet!
Obsessed with the corner flow into the ceiling and the way the bed fits but gives the room a stateliness thatâs so impressive
Even though our styles are not the same, I appreciate the charm in your designing style. I do love how the fireplace turned out.
So sweet thanks Chrystie! I love that you enjoyed parts, even with our different tastes! Iâm all about that đ
Gorgeous. That's really a beautiful space. You are so talented and engaging to watch. I told my 18 yr old and good friend about your videos. Your honesty, humor and talent add joy to people's days.
Great room. You did brilliantly in a awkward room. To up the cosiness vibe bring in a plain darkish peach (think of the colour used in old Hollywood films) on the bedding. You will feel you are in heaven.
We love a brother and sister project duo! Luke is a GREAT sport!
The room has been up scaled with a feel of comfort and class. Nice job and thank you for sharing design tips.
So glad you enjoyed itâ€ïžâ€ïž
" Systems that support your life that's what design is about " sent fireworks in my head
You and your brother are absolutely adorable bantering off each other.
I LOVE how you renovate for real people, real budgets, real spaces. Thank you! Love the colors and textures. I'm big on texture, and prints register in my mind as visual texture.
I don't like the black fireplace -- it's like a door into some void. Light grey, off-white, even a very light butter yellow would have given it character, tied it into the room, and not given the effect of sucking space into a black hole.
Adore your room. Not sure which I prefer, your style skills or your personality. All your videos Iâve watched have been so enjoyable. Itâs hard to believe you didnât find the success you were seeking as an actor because you surely exude joy in your videos. If my opinion matters, I think youâre both an organic and sophisticated designer. Itâs clear you love what you do. What a wonderfully beautiful and welcoming bedroom youâve designed! Take care, Grace
I love your mini rants. The dating grievance is priceless.
OMG! Youâre the only other person to mention the camera hack. It totally works to take a picture of a space and somehow the things wrong with it are glaring in the photo but not to the naked eye.
Obsessed with this makeover! Whenever I look at makeovers and room decor ideas on Pinterest, I either hate the entire room or love the entire room and would want to replicate every part of it. However, with this makeover itâs so evident how youâve made this your very own and I feel inspired to explore what works for me, in my space!
I feel like you could have an entire business just devoted to helping people with gallery walls. đ
Jesus Caroline watching your videos is pure amusement and also sore tummy from laughing. Wish I had a friend like you
Maybe I am just stoned right now but really you are sharing such a special spiritual message with the world surrounding home and wellness.
Your videos have been changing my life đ
Love this, Caroline! My favorite (so far) of all your makeovers. And I learned a new styling term -- friction! -- a style I've incorporated for years. I am n.o.t. a fan of matchy-matchy (for myself). Love your gallery corner wall! My gallery wall in the living room is very cohesive and symmetrical -- but, in the powder room, it is very random, and I love them both. (Tip: when your significant other says, "You're going to put *another* hole in the wall??!!?" -- the proper response can be, "Oh, honey, that ship sailed 10 years ago.") Thanks for keeping us informed and inspired and entertained!
Friction!!! Girl Iâm so glad you loved it. Also appreciate your last name đ
I have SO MUCH to say about this video. First, the literal LOL I do when I watch you. I live for it on Saturdays. Two, Google says yes, tea stains more than coffee đ thank you Google. đ THREE, I've been waiting for this bedroom makeover! Love it! It's sure I'd cozy AF! YES to mixing patterns. YES to a ceiling moment! And to the conversation about the wall decor. I need the things I put on my walls to mean something to me. Weather its sentiments or it speaks to my soul. I will not hang things just cause eh... its nice or simply works in the space. I want to look around me and feel joy. I'm a very visual person to. Thank you SO much for this video. I was either laughing or nodding YES GIRL!
â€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïžlove this. Not a fan of google today đ
I think what you did was timeless, it's also what you like and that's the most important. †love the look!!
When you sneezed I said "Bless you" like you were gonna hear me. No I haven't had enough coffee, today. Love this videođđ
Just discovered your channel today. Love what you said on how you don't have to wait on your forever home to start building a sanctuary in the space you live (love this idea as a renter). Your bedroom came out A-MA-ZING- love that wall paper ideađ
Exactly my thoughts. I love your encouragement to be free to be yourself and create a sanctuary... â€
You are helping me cut out the clutter of interior decorating and figure out what it is that I truly want in my space!! Thank you!!
I like that your content considers accessibility. I recently purchased my first home and so many channels are like â$800 makeover!â But then they use a bunch of expensive power tools and build custom closets or something. Maybe they only spent a few hundred dollars on cheap wood or supposedly inexpensive thrifted pieces (I have my own doubts about the bts of âthriftingâ content we see online), but because Iâm starting at 0 in a small row home, it would easily get into the thousands for me. Most people donât have lots of power tools, a professional work shop, or carpentry experience, weâre going to mess up our homes if we try to go all out right away. These renter friendly makeovers allow me to learn as I go. Eventually I hope I can take on some bigger challenges too.
its so funny that youâre such a sporty/aggressive personality but have such a feminine/quirky taste in decor. the juxtaposition makes this so fun to watch
Dude. Itâs UNREAL how talented you are. Thanks for sharing your gift with the world! Keep going đđœâ€ïž
You made my day with this comment, thanks for sharing so much love!â€ïž
It turned out gorgeous!!! So refreshing to see someone styling their space in something other than "mid-century modern"!!!! This has character, personality, and its cohesive and cozy. I also appreciate how you don't downplay the physical labor and tiny decisions and hiccups along the way. I get intimidated and would watch videos on just how to hang things up on walls correctly, like the nuts and bolts of it - what nails to use, etc. But more seriously, I rent a studio and would be interested in how to upgrade the crusty kitchen and bathroom faucets! Also, I really like your cousin's painting and concept behind it!
My heart skipped a beat at the room reveal. I am obsessed with the traditional design with little touches of modern peppered in. So gorgeous and cozy.
My anxiety level w the white pants while painting the fireplace BLACK. Youâre a queeen đđŒ
I am happy to find your channel.
I am a person of two continents and I bought the condo for my vacation time in Europe.
I started to watch local interior designers and I couldn't find anyone to fit my taste which is in between modern and old and two countries.
I just realized watching your channel I can design my space and your advise is so detailed and down to earth I just fell in love with it.
Keep up the great work!!!
I use a dresser as my nightstand! Got some side glances when I told people , lol. Thank you for the validation!!!! â€ïž. The room came out amazing!
Here to validate all your choices đ„°if it works for you, then itâs correct!
Your landlord needs to let you do whatever you want because I have a feeling you will be famous in not too long. Imagine people fighting over this place because you lived there đ
This is only the second video of yours Iâve watched and I keep asking myself, âwhy do I love this woman so much?â Answer: she reminds me of my favorite cousin, Barbara! Subscribed!
I don't know how you don't have a million subscribers! Your channel is one of my very faves! You're so real, and I love your design aesthetic so much! Had to rewatch this video for design inspo before I tackle my own bedroom!
This makeover was fabulous. LOVE the wallpaper on the ceiling for such a small space. Also, that little cupboard above your closet is a storage space for out of season quilts. Once upon a time a jar with either bath salts or a potpourri mix or even dried lavender was placed in the cabinet to deter bugs and keep the linens stored there bug free and nice smelling.
You have managed to pull it off applying a floral wall paper to a ceiling. That was amazing !
Caroline you deserve your own show. This is what the average person can relate to.
I canât tell you how much I love this. More importantly, I love how much YOU love the space you created!
I have very eclectic taste and have always designed my space accordingly. I like what I like. Things that are special/meaningful to me are special/meaningful to me, I donât care what classification of design they are from. I freely put together what pleases me. And strangely, it ends up not only pleasing me, but also being pleasing and welcoming to others (after they get over their puzzlement that it âshouldnât â be)! đ
This was so good! I love the wall paper. I hope your brain and heart allow you to believe me when I say you're amazing! You always make me laugh and give me new things to think about. Thank you for sharing.
Love you for this, thanks friendâ€ïž
Caroline. I LOVE that you decorate for YOU and not keep to match matchy styles! Love the concept of friction. I've been doing that for ages, I didn't know there's a name for it. Thank you! Love your channel.
Where have you been all my CZcams consuming life??? Found you searching if Heidi Caillerie had any videos on YT and bam Iâve been binging your videos every sinceđ.
Looks amazing ! Wallpaper on the ceiling makes it cosy. Love seeing the dynamic with your brother. Congrats on sponsorship. I'm a 'sheet snob' since buying good linens for our bed - money well spent and would NEVER consider going back to cheaper stuff !! Your room is now a cosy haven from this crazy world. Hi from Australia đŠđș xx
Wow. I cannot explain to you the emotions Iâm feeling since finding your channel! You make me so excited to start changing my space into a space that serves me in more ways than one. You deserve to live in a space that you love to be in. A clean, functional, and neat looking space I feel is a necessary foundation for your life! Learning this and really trying to remind myself of this, especially lately.
You just solidified all of those ideas that I had just floating around in this NOGGIN. Thank you for sharing your creativity and knowledge, I am so stoked to see what else you will come up with!
Also I find your family so interesting. Your dad with the violin, your sister writing a book, you with your creative mind, and your brother with his Pokémon art work! so amazing to watch
What makes you happy in the home you live in right now. I love that
Great life advice sprinkled throughout the amazing interior design content. What more could you ask for?!
How dare you đ„Čâ€ïž
I love what you did to your room . My favorite is your art work placement ,old and new .
That sneeze is the realest thing I have seen on internet! :D
Wow, I love so many things about your room makeover, but I just noticed how gorgeous the hardwood floor in your bedroom looks on camera. Such a richness and depth. I wonder if it looks that way in person? I'm currently living in the most cozy and aesthetically pleasing space I've ever rented in my life, and there's a lot to say for a house with good bones and a pleasing aspect. Your home comes across as having those things.
The room is really cute. I love the fireplace, the gallery corner and the styling. On a side note, tea will stain your teeth more than coffee but my dentist says it is easier to remove. So having your teeth professionally cleaned twice a year at your dentist will probably be sufficient.
this room is everything. This is so aligned with my style, I'm absolutely obsessed.
Thanks girlâ€ïžâ€ïžđ„č
"A cave with windows" lol. Love the way u put words together, it keeps me coming back for more đđâ€ïž

Last year we sold everything we owned and moved to Costa Rica. Long and the short of it were headed back to the crazy US of A and I've been so inspired to thrift and collect our home when we move back to Asheville. I stumbled upon your channel and have watched almost all your videos. You great, relatable as a creator and have such an effortless style. Thank you for inspiring me to create a home I can feel proud of.
I know this is none of my business but now Iâm curious as to why you moved to Costa Rica and are now moving back to the States.
@@wallihaley5194 it was a number of reasons. We truly love it there but post covid prices soared for real estate...and there is no financing for expats. My kids wanted to have a high school experience in the states too. Having three kids there proved some challenged and extra expenses like school which was just as expensive as our rent. We plan to go back and visit during the holiday breaks. Truly one of the best experiences I've ever had in my life.
The room is beautiful! I love the green and pink and all the lil touches you did. Gorgeous!
So glad! Itâs one of my favorite color combos đ
That "organic and sprawling" thing? That's exactly what I love when I'm arranging art. Sometimes I think of it as an art vine, haha, but castle stones do make more sense.

Bonjour Caroline,
Ta chambre est magnifique grùce à une décoration élégante et subtile. Gros bisou de France.
So chic! I love the old and new mix. The sparse art and styling. I agree, it reads European pied-a-terre! I think the architecture of those older DC buildings lends itself to this style very well. Miss living out east sometimes!
Love how you're like "don't design for Instagram or by what's on trend" meanwhile your spaces look Instagram worthy and gorgeous and totally on trend yet traditional and kinda timeless. I love your style. It's something I've tried to hone in on. It's exactly what I love.
The moment you called that sconce a âđ¶â I knew I had to subscribe.đ
I absolutely love this room transformation. That wallpaper spoke to my soul đ. Maybe you can put frameless candles in the fireplace for added ambiance.
The bed frame was such a good find! It's the star of the show and works perfectly with your mirrors. Also would have never thought of (or attempted!!) the ceiling wall paper but totally worth it.
DC has AMAZING second hand finds, or even free on Buy Nothing/Freecycle. Transient area, people who can afford nice things but also may have to switch apartments, or relocate in a few years and have to divest, upgrade, or their nice things don't work in their new place. Insane, the stuff I've gotten from people just desperate to get it out of their space. Have also been one of those people.
My daughter drink coffee with a straw when she is concerned about keeping her teeth white. Most teas that have caffeine can stain teeth. If you doing the tea thing for warmth there are teas with not much color. They stain, we use to stain cloth by using plants to color them.
I Love how your bedroom put a Huge Smile on your face âŁïž
I have a very small bedroom for two people. My husband has to have a TV and I many pillows to sleep with (he hogges most of them). I have a busy side table, my tall amoar, and a chair. He has his chest drawers and TV (I don't like TVs in the bedrooms).
"it's never calm in here so I want my outside environment to be very calming."
Wow, that makeover is insane! Gorgeous design elements and so many realistic moments-love that you didnât edit out your learning moments and appreciate seeing the whole process.
Your room looks AMAZING!!! Love so much about it, but I think I love the tiled fireplace the best. I'd probably put wispy white curtains in between the lovely green ones because I hate hate hate anyone staring in but it still lets the light into the room. Love the humour you incorporate into your videos, can tell that's your natural personality. I've subscribed because I love all the great advice and tips you give.
Such a cozy vibe. My hoarding self could never
