  • Jewish Christians, as faithful religious Jews, "regarded their movement as an affirmation of every aspect of contemporary Judaism, with the addition of one extra belief that Jesus was the Messiah.
Jewish Christians were the original members of the Jewish movement that later became Christianity.

They were the Jerusalem Church under James the Just. The Book of Acts AND Paul tells us James was the head of the church. Peter is claimed as the first BUT that is incorrect and James was killed before Peter was. So at best leadership passed from James to Peter, at best. The Ebionites continued on as James taught and were labelled Heretics by the Apostolic Father's AND Eusibius as well

Prior to that there were many sects or followers of Jesus that held different views about his life and ministry. The Ebionites being one of them.
The views of Paul were later championed by Constantine because he preached obedience to kings and governments.

Paul never advocated faith alone saves. Or I should say, Paul never thought “faith” was “mental affirmation” alone. Faith included works for Paul. Just not “works of the (Mosaic) Law” (circumcision, Sabbaths, Holy Days, Rituals, specific clothing Rules, Food Observances, etc). "Moral" works were 100% advocated and required by Paul in “faith”.
All this can be easily seen by simply giving Romans, Galatians, or Corinthians a quick read through. Pay attention to when he mentions what God requires of us, what Paul himself expects to see and hear about the behavior of his letters recipients, what he thinks God expects of Paul himself, what he says will allow or bar inheritance into the Kingdom, how he himself speaks about and defines "faith" etc.

    • @ericthegreat7805
      @ericthegreat7805 Před 2 lety +3

The term translated as Faith in English is Pistis in Greek. It literally means Faithfullness. The point of Abraham being justified by "Pistis" was that if he lived before the time Moses gave the law, how could he have been saved unless he had Pistis, was FAITHFUL, to the God of the Old Testament. The reading of Paul as "Faith alone" is an anachronistic, anti-Catholic and antisemitic reading inherited from the Reformation onwards, where they saw themselves in Paul and tied the Roman Pope to the legalism and alleged corruption of the Jerusalem Church. It is an obvious strawman but due to Protestant influence we keep misreading Paul. It was meant to justify pure opportunism and the refusal to do any Works (synonymous with and strawmanned as "blindly following Rome's orders") to achieve salvation. So you are correct that Paul was not against "works" but it was tied to his understanding of "faith", and that the specific thing he was speaking against was the need for everyond to follow the law of Moses to be saved.

    • @youngknowledgeseeker
      @youngknowledgeseeker Před 2 lety

@michaelchristian5963 I think, respectfully, that's a misreading of the text. Rather the text is saying that there are Jews "everywhere" (since Moses had been preached since old everywhere). And so some customs must be observed by the Gentiles to facilitate cohesion and fellowship between them and Jewish Christians. After all, the gathering places were probably synagogues first and foremost.
It's very hard to read or reconcile Paul and even Hebrews with the idea that Acts or any other book of the NT teaches Mosaic observance. Paul is so firm about this point in Galatians he has to say that those Gentiles in Galatia who choose to observe Moses because they think it's what God now requires of them and so what will help save them, he has to say that those Galatians have cut themselves off from Christ and potentially salvation. Paul says that rather we are under the "law of Messiah."
These can be very confusing or hard topics to understand or read or get good teachers for. I wish the best for you and I also hope God grants us truth always.

The Ebionites & Nazarenes look similar to each other (compared to Pauline Christianity) but they are not the same.
They both profess to follow the Torah and the teachings of Yeho'shua (Jesus).
Critically tho, the Ebion denied and removed the first 3 chapters of the gospel written by Apostle Matthew and reject that Jesus's spirit is the Spirit of God. Sadly, a lot of people waking up to Paul are running from one error to another: they're being deceived into Ebionite beliefs.
The Nazarenes, by contrast, affirmed and we continue to affirm that Ye'shua was born of a virgin, as well as that the Messiah's spirit is the Spirit of the one God.
      This is not trinity doctrine.
      Every human has a spirit.
      Job 7:11
Therefore I will speak in the anguish of _my spirit;_ I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.
Just as you have a body and a mind... you also have a spirit.
likewise Jesus. The spirit in & upon him = the Spirit of God.
      _
Yehovah God visited his people to save them from their sins. He did this in Jesus. Thats why J's name in Hebrew is Yeho'shua (Yehovah'Shua). That's why he is called Emmanuel which means God-with-us.
Ezekiel34 (written 400 years before Christ)...
For thus saith the Lord GOD Yehovah; Behold, *I, even I, will both search my sheep, and seek them out.* As a shepherd seeketh out his flock *in the day that he is AMONG his sheep* that are scattered; so will I seek out my sheep, and will deliver them out of all places where they have been scattered in the cloudy and dark day.
The shepherd kept his promise. He visited his own sheep.
      Mrk6:34 <
And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things.
      Mat26:31 >
Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.
Are the sheep made up only of Jews?
No. He tells us who the sheep are in Matthew 25. They are people from all nations.
When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: and before him shall be gathered *all nations:* and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: and he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left....

    Concerning the Ebionites Hippolytus says:
"The Ebionites, however, acknowledge that the world was made by Him Who is in reality God, but they propound legends concerning the Christ similarly with Cerinthus and Carpocrates. They live conformably to the customs of the Jews, alleging that they are justified according to the law, and saying that Jesus was justified by fulfilling the law. And therefore it was, (according to the Ebionites,) that (the Saviour) was named (the) Christ of God and Jesus, since not one of the rest (of mankind) had observed completely the law. For if even any other had fulfilled the commandments (contained) in the law, he would have been that Christ. And the (Ebionites allege) that they themselves also, when in like manner they fulfil (the law), are able to become Christs; for they assert that our Lord Himself was a man in a like sense with all (the rest of the human family) (Ἐβιωναῖοι δὲ ὁμολογοῦσι τὸν κόσμον ὑπὸ τοῦ ὄντως θεοῦ γεγονέναι· τὰ δὲ περὶ τὸν Χριστὸν ὁμοίως τῷ Κηρίνθῳ καὶ Καρποκράτει μυθεύουσιν. Benjamin was one of Jacob son,so how can this man be from the Tribe of Benjamin and the tribe of Judah in the same time?!!
Jew or Yehudi comes from the semitic verb "heda" which means to follow the right path, the authentic teachings,to be the guided one
When the teachings of a prophet get weak and forgotten his followers start claiming to represent the authentic teachings this is how sects appear
it happened to Moses followers and a sect among them called them selves Yehudim
it happened to some Jesus followers and they're called "othodox"
it happened to Muslims and they're called "sunnah"
the term "christian" is another subject
      Peace be upon you

      Question:
Why would Christ Jesus call the Apostle Paul "His chosen vessel," if he was going to contradict Him?
      Acts 9:1-22 CSB
Now Saul was still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord. He went to the high priest [2] and requested letters from him to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any men or women who belonged to the Way, he might bring them as prisoners to Jerusalem. [3] As he traveled and was nearing Damascus, a light from heaven suddenly flashed around him. [4] Falling to the ground, he heard a voice saying to him, "Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?" [5] "Who are you, Lord?" Saul said. "I am Jesus, the one you are persecuting," he replied. [6] "But get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do." [7] The men who were traveling with him stood speechless, hearing the sound but seeing no one. [8] Saul got up from the ground, and though his eyes were open, he could see nothing. So they took him by the hand and led him into Damascus. [9] He was unable to see for three days and did not eat or drink. [10] There was a disciple in Damascus named Ananias, and the Lord said to him in a vision, "Ananias." "Here I am, Lord," he replied. [11] "Get up and go to the street called Straight," the Lord said to him, "to the house of Judas, and ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul, since he is praying there. [12] In a vision he has seen a man named Ananias coming in and placing his hands on him so that he may regain his sight." [13] "Lord," Ananias answered, "I have heard from many people about this man, how much harm he has done to your saints in Jerusalem. [14] And he has authority here from the chief priests to arrest all who call on your name." [15] But the Lord said to him, "Go, for this man is my chosen instrument to take my name to Gentiles, kings, and Israelites. [16] I will show him how much he must suffer for my name." [17] Ananias went and entered the house. He placed his hands on him and said, "Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road you were traveling, has sent me so that you may regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit." [18] At once something like scales fell from his eyes, and he regained his sight. Then he got up and was baptized. [19] And after taking some food, he regained his strength. Saul was with the disciples in Damascus for some time. [20] Immediately he began proclaiming Jesus in the synagogues: "He is the Son of God." [21] All who heard him were astounded and said, "Isn't this the man in Jerusalem who was causing havoc for those who called on this name and came here for the purpose of taking them as prisoners to the chief priests?" [22] But Saul grew stronger and kept confounding the Jews who lived in Damascus by proving that Jesus is the Messiah.
Exegesis is the standard to interpret Scripture by, not Eisegesis and bias judgment towards one of God's servant who proclaimed that Jesus is the Messiah!!

That's your assertions against the Apostle Paul, where's your proof?
      Matthew 7:22-23 NASB
Many will say to Me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?' [23] And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.'
How can these verses apply to Paul when Christ Jesus called him His chosen vessel and appointed to do His will?
You can't be serious with your response!!

Although this early Jewish-Christian sect of the Ebonites (circa. early 1st-2nd C.E.) was considered heretical, and their teachings on certain aspects have certainly deviated from pure Christian doctrine, what they said about Christ as an Angel is corroborative evidence of the antiquity of this tradition and teaching going back to the Earliest Christians and to the Jews themselves, as confirmed by writings among the DSS or Dead Sea Scrolls and Philo Judaeus.
Here is what Epiphanius had to say on what they taught in this regard:
GREEK TEXT: “...καὶ [16.] MPG.)
EPIPHANIUS OF SALAMIS (circa. 310-403 C.E.): “...And on this account they say that Jesus was begotten of the seed of a man, and was chosen; and so by the choice of God he was called the Son of God from the Christ that came into him from above in the likeness of a dove. And they deny that he was begotten of God the Father, but say that he was created as one of the archangels, yet greater, and that he is Lord of the angels and of all things made by the Almighty...” - (Pages 8-10, Panarion 30.16,4-5; Montague Rhode James in The Apocryphal New Testament, Oxford: Clarendon Press 1924)
EPIPHANIUS OF SALAMIS (circa. 310-403 C.E.): “...They say that Christ was not begotten of God the Father, but created as one of the archangels ... that he rules over the angels and all the creatures of the Almighty...” - (Panarion 30.16,4-5; The Nazarenes of Mount Carmel Copyright © 1999-2006.)

What I find really interesting is that nothing was written about Jesus during his lifetime--only decades later. All that drama; the crucifixion and the resurrection (!!) all the disruption in Rome from this wild guy 'Jesus of Nazareth'.....nothing was written about him while he lived.
I think to find the origins of a 'jesus' or, really, 'Christ/Christos' you have to dig deeper and go all the way back to Egypt, all the way back to Mesopotamia and the old gods. The message, and whatever truly happened, I think it all just got misunderstood and reinterpreted (with A LOT of things being made up along the way, especially in the Middle Ages) again & again & again, through every historical era, all the way up to today.
