99% of people, and 50% of decent guitar players couldn't tell the difference blindfolded. The biggest difference- that masterbuilt is only $850 USD. Great value.
I agree, But I will say that vintage dry sound of the 64’ sounded real good. I have just purchased the Masterbilt Frontier and I believe I landed what could be the deal of the year as well. Vintage Gear America in Palmdale California just sold me one for 599.99 with limited edition two tone Epiphone case.
Love the 64. Overtones and shimmer that I've been hunting for. The masterbuilt sounded great for its price, but still a little boxy for a dread. Lots of haters out there, but you almost always get what you pay for. Just because it isn't worth it to you doesn't mean that it's not worth it to the world. Instruments are very subjective.
I think the 1964 wins. You can hear the age on it (in a good way). However, If the 2020 is around in 50+ years, it'll probably sound just as good...lol.
I can't wait to get mine. Great vid, the 1964 is more open, but in theory that should also happen with the 2020.....so, they are both great guitars in my opinion.
@@stevebernard221 good luck w/that--lol. i waited 3 months early this year for mine to arrive. one week later the guard started lifting so i returned it. that was mid-July. still waiting on the backordered replacement. the first one was a GREAT guitar and i wish i had just totally removed the pickguard myself and kept that one..... kepping fingers crossed the new one is as good!
1964 wins. Its easy to think the master built sounds better but the vintage just has that snappy, twangy, dreamy sound too it. You can hear the master built doesn't really sparkle, more bass in each note. Just sounds like the vintage is more high definition.
Distinct difference, for sure. But I can't call it qualitative, better/not so better kind of difference. I can't pick a favorite. They both sound delicious. I could almost credit the difference to type, or newness of strings on the 64. And maybe the Masterbilt has coated strings.
I genuinely think the 2020 guitar sounded better... Just seems to have crisper highs, where the '64 seemed a bit dull. But that could just be down to the strings.
The US made model featured here is an original US Kalamazoo made guitar made circa late 1964 its not the 2021 Bosman US made model. You can tell because the Bosman models only have the earlier shorter headstock design neither of the guitars featured here have that headstock.
Nice playing but these Gibson/Epiphone acoustic guitars all sound kind of feeble compared to a Guild or Martin or many other good quality lesser known brands, I've tried Gibson's selling at 5K here in Australia that were flat and gutless even compared to a base model Cole Clark FL1 dread at 1.5 K, they're very disappointing generally but they do look nice.
Tend to agree with you on the Cole Clarks (and to some extent Matons) punch above their weight for the $$ compared to Gibsons... However, I had an asian Guild - D140 and sold it - Great guitar but the Low-e intonation was over 1C sharp on the lower frets and it bugged me. The USA ones are prolly better but you are talking US$3-4K compared to the AU$1,400 for the Epi Frontier Masterbilt. Love My MB Frontier - Finally got that high $$ sound from a low $$ guitar!! Only took about 50 guitars bought and sold to get there ;) I also bought the Epi Slash J45 but it's not a real J45 in tone but I am happy w/ it.. The Masterbilt Frontier is the cream of the crop for Epi's for sure (and the Excellente from what I can hear in videos with decent recording quality)..
The Masterbilt sounds fantastic.
Not as great as the "64

@@hotlov72 Thank you Sherlock...lol. However it has a 56 year head start.

that 64' sounds so rich
I listened to it blind and was completely sure guitar no1 was the 1964, since no1 sounds so much better (to me). Impressed by the Masterbilt
You play beautifully!
They are making iconics these days.
64 sounds great.
Lovely playing
Très bon son j'aime bien cette guitare 🎸

It has had 56 years to loosen up. Of course you considered that right?
It should in 56 years.
I think for $850 dollars, the Master built is a tremendous value.

I wish they would tell us what strings they are using
BTW what is the locking tuners he use?? Anyone can tell me what it is.tnx

2020 butter 1964 spakling
I don’t think it matters much which guitar this guy plays!!!
The masterbilt Frontier gets close in sound and looks for a fraction of the price.
it's a good thing his chin is protected from catching covid.....
The new version
What strings brand you use.?
It’s a guitar shop so they’ll be stock strings

I'm not crazy about the sound of either. Both sound too tight. But as long as the owner likes them...
