NEW YORK DAY TRIP: (BEST LONG ISLAND SURFING BEACH)

Bored of NYC and need a summer getaway? Rent a car or hop on the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) for a long island surfing adventure! There are many places to surf along the Atlantic Coast of Long Island but in this surf vlog, we visit my personal favorite, Montauk -- a small but happening fishing town located at the very end of Long Island. Montauk, is in fact, one of the best places to surf along the entire East Coast of the USA.

BEWARE: Traffic is a challenge if you are driving at commuter hours of the day Thursday, Friday, and Sunday. If driving, do your best to leave early in the morning or late at night. Trains also tend to be packed towards the weekend during the summer months so be sure to arrive early if you want a seat!
Once there, go rent a board from Sunset Surf Shack -- the shop owner Craig is a great guy and will hook you up with a board and wetsuit appropriate for your size and ability. They also offer lessons so you can inquire about that.
Check Surfline or Magic Sea Weed for surf spots and forecasts. My go to is Ditch Plains Beach which is easily searchable on google maps, but later in the day or very early in the morning you can surf by the lighthouse which is incredible and works well on a hurricane swell.
FOOD RECS: Try the buffalo chicken slice at Sausages Pizza & Pastabilities at the end of town as you head towards the lighthouse -- best I've ever had. LT Burger in Sag Harbor has amazing burgers and shakes. Surf Lodge and Ruschmeyer for a scene and a fun crowd.

I usually book early and try to find a cheap airbnb or vrbo. If you're booking ahead of time I recommend this. You can also stay in the Campgrounds by Cedar Point.
Expensive:
These places are very nice -- if you have the money go for it. The best is GURNEY'S. The next best are RUSCHMEYER and SURF LODGE. Next best sole east and The Montauk Beach House

I’m a local on li so some spots that I have been to that have been good is Lincoln beach Long Beach, tobay, Democrat point inlet that is accessible by boat and car through Robert Moses state park west of kismet fire island and the waves break good from a huge sand bar where you can just chill and wait for a wave however the waves are usually 1-2 feet, also the beach side of hemlock is good very similar to demo point with sand bar and hood wave break
