I have no idea what the year was when I first saw a television special called Let's Have an Irish Party except that it was probably on or just before St. Patrick's Day. It only ran for about an hour but it had singers and groups I'd never heard of including Anna McGoldrick who sang a very powerful song called James Connolly. An Irish patriot who was executed by the British, she sang the song with fierce pride of one of many young men and not-so-young-men (Connolly was 47 when executed) who gave their lives for their country. Their movement was to free Ireland from the British government and have it ruled by the independent Irish Republic. What shocked me was that James Connolly was so badly injured while fighting, his doctor said he had only a day or two of life left. Still, the British demanded he be executed, so Connolly, unable to stand, faced a firing squad while seated on a chair. It made me understand McGoldrick's impassioned delivery of those lyrics. No other singer I've heard sings the song so stirringly.
I cry and I cry when I listen to her sing this song. I can't stop the tears ..., it's so beautiful. It's so sad. She sings it with such proud and noble emotion.
Anna: Here is that video i promised today on the phone. It`s gotta be the most emotional, Expressive version i`ve seen. As Jackie Gleason would Say: Anna Your the "GREATEST" Ray Mahar on God`s land Prince Edward island.
Anna and I were good friends many years ago. We worked together. Still have photo of her 18th Birtday party. She was a beautiful girl and I have fond memories of her. I listen so often to that song ❤❤❤

Like Kevin Barry he was good at shooting people - not only soldiers - in the back. No doubt Anna is a good supporter of the 'free' Irish, but as a woman she should remember the women and children of Londonderry.
Anna was good friend of mine many moons ago before she went to Canada. We worked together. What a beautiful charming girl. Love listing to her. ❤❤❤
One of my dad's favourite songs, he died 30 years ago. Never forget, don't let them wild our history

Absolutely brilliant, but my mother, God rest her, sang it better than anyone I've ever heard! The song brings back so many powerful memories for me!
Great version of this song in my opinion the best . great vocal
Very sad. I sang this when young. I’d cry too much now. RIP James Connolly Irish Republican Socialist hero. ❤

They have long memories, don't they?
Going to Kilmainhaim Jail is one of the saddest things to do still. Seeing where James and the others lived and died. 💔💔💔
