Flagrant vs The Andrew Schulz Show

  • The Flagrant Podcast has evolved since it’s started. Although it’s become more sophisticated, with the fake laughter and the egocentric personality of Andrew Schulz, it’s starting to feel like a cheesy late night show. Meanwhile Alex is starting to look more out of place with the more serious Flagrant episodes.

    1:27 "at times has the sense of humour someone in his 20s"
    I would say it's more the sense of humour of a 15 year old. He and all his "boys" all seem so immature. It gets old real quick.
    It seems like he only keeps Akaash around because he'll never see him as a threat to his own comedy career. As you pointed out, he keeps him in his place. Such an awkward dynamic for a podcast.

    • @Note10plusAura
      @Note10plusAura Před 3 měsíci

      @Jcabrera1206 yes it is usually more obvious in a movie, agreed;
      but the only reason it's obvious is because WE have grown, even from a young age, to Realize it's a story and not reality.
      It's not actors or movies doing this For us.
      Regulations or governments or music artists didn't do this for us either.
      Almost every single kid thinks a movie is real at some point but we quickly learn otherwise.
      The burden should fall on Ourselves,
      to learn and realize fact from fiction as we grow, aquire knowledge from people-public or peers, establish rationale, and gain common sense from the world around us..
      What they are saying is this:
      Any artist rapping about explicit fictional stories must be Held Accountable
      For Other People's Choices
      in their daily life because his song has influenced somebody.
      I can hardly even wrap my head around something like that-
      Expecting that a rapper needs to be forced to take responsibility for Me taking Xanax and going to the e.r.?
      ..whether I heard it on his song or not does not change the fact that the fault lies with me for Doing stupid shlt, instead of just Listening to stupid shit in a song.
      Peoples choices are their own to make AND Be Responsible for;
      Old and Young.
      ..Not the creators of the media we enjoy.
      We have been going down this path of constant insinuations, from every direction, that we all Need to be
      * Protected from Ourselves.*
      And all it's doing is creating circumstance where people, young or not, are no longer Required to pay attention, learn, or experience.
      This seems to be a terrible direction; what do you think?

    • @TheGoodRant
      @TheGoodRant  Před 3 měsíci

      Sure. I get Alex’s point. And sorry if this is a long reply. John Wick is movie character. Even children know that those are actors. That’s not the case with musicians. Even though musicians can talk about whatever experiences even it’s not theirs and can talk about stories that are completely made up. However historically with rap those stories are typically under the assumption that they’re based on real life. A huge appeal of rappers is that they are credible. If 50 cent lied about getting shot 9 times then his appeal would have dropped significantly. Even if his music would have been good. All of sudden we wouldn’t believe that he was really about that lifestyle. So the impression of rappers is that they are being themselves. Future rapping about doing drugs is obviously a bad influence. But still you could argue if that was his actual lifestyle then he’s just talking about his personal experiences…but that isn’t the case. In fact Alex says at the end as a defense to Future that “he’s just talking about his experiences” (NOT TRUE) So Alex even made a point against Future because that’s the defense. Those experiences aren’t his. It’s fake. He’s selling an image that is not only fake but a bad influence and it’s purely for personal gain... It’s shady to say the least. The whole defense of gangster rap or rappers who talk about doing drugs is that “hey it’s their experience they should be able to talk about their life however they choose to live it”. No-one’s arguing that he should get locked up for it or get banned. But it’s irresponsible and just a dick move.

    • @Note10plusAura
      @Note10plusAura Před 3 měsíci +1

      @@TheGoodRant That brings me to one of my main points..
      If a rapper tells a story based on fiction, who now should have the burden of Others' Decisions fall on him -because he's a bad influence;
      Then Why would that Not apply to an identical rapper, telling the same story, in all the same ways,
      except his is 100% true?
      If somebody starts popping pills because he heard it on that rappers song, then wouldn't That rapper, telling his real experiences, Also be a bad influence for doing so?
      And if he IS in fact also a bad influence, then that escalates from
      "Fake rappers shouldn't be able to rap about bad shit and act like it's real because it apparently influences some people"
      To
      "All Rappers shouldn't be able to have the freedom to express Any explicit experiences,
      Real or Fake.
      (Because they Both apparently influence some people.)
      Or the alternative
      All Rappers should be Held Responsible for other peoples actions if they portray an explicit persona.
      Including talking about an old version of yourself when you did grimy shit in a previous life- because why?
      Because It Will Influence people; and we need somebody else to protect Us from Ourselves.

    The real stand ups don’t want to be a podcaster. Unless they need to it for $. There are exceptions to this rule like Bill Burr. Burr is brilliant enough to have a podcast while filming a movie and still go to The Cellar in the village and kill with new material. Louis CK did a brilliant pod with Shane on our Presidents .. but it was a finite podcast. And yiu can also catching him in the cellar trying out new material. Crafting his art.

    All of Schulz's attempts at racial "humour" fall flat. His room-temperature takes on non-American cultures don't just reek of ignorant edgelordism, they so obviously show how desperate he is to come off as outre and provocative. I used to like this guy and his Internet comedy. Now, every time he opens his mouth, he snitches on himself. As for the rest of the Flagrant boyband, they're all human ad-lib machines; rejects from a reality TV show MTV would've cancelled after one season in the early 2000s. At least Adam Levine's supporting cast can play their instruments. Can't say the same about Schulz's beneficiaries.

    The point Alex is trying to make in that Russ discussion is actually valid. If an adult takes any particular drugs because of the image of a certain rapper then that’s on that adult for being easily persuaded in your life choices by people that hold no actual relevance in your life. You can’t expect everybody and their momma to be the good example YOU want to see in the world, it just doesn’t work like that. Future’s audience gives him relevance because of the image he sells, doesn’t matter if it’s true or not because that’s all just an assumption anyway. Truth is you never know and it shouldn’t even matter. Kids on the other hand should be made aware that not everything you see and especially on the internet is real. People have a right to lie about almost everything regarding themselves and exercise that right daily. Don’t be naive and don’t make stupid choices based on other people’s stupid choices, take responsibility and make stupid choices yourself instead.🫡

    • @TheGoodRant
      @TheGoodRant  Před 3 měsíci

      That’s a completely valid argument. It goes without saying that parents should teach their kids to not be influenced by someone like Future. And no-one is saying that Future shouldn’t have the right to do it. We’re saying that it’s just a dick move. The historic defense of rappers who are a bad influence whether it being them talking about violence, women, drugs etc. The whole defense of it was that “hey that’s their lifestyle, they should be allowed to express themselves and talk about THEIR experiences. “their “ being the key word. When it’s not theirs then it’s shady. But yes of course we should all have common sense. But not every kid has that unfortunately. That’s why smoking commercials are banned. We recognized decades ago that even though no one was telling kids to smoke. Kids generally want to copy what they think is cool. Make sense?
