Even if there was a piece of graphite from the reactor in the water, if it was somewhat deep, the water wouldn't be contaminated. Water is a really bad place for radiation to spread, it wouldn't take a meter to cut the radiation of the object in half. In case of used nuclear fuel, it takes 7 centimeters of water.
So ye, people get spooked by all the water stuff in the series, but the water is probably the least radiated thing in the entirety of Pripyat lol.

It's okay he'll just eventually have bald spots or weird coloring of his hair. He should have been using that Geiger meter more often. There's a reason areas are still blocked off--uneven radiation in certain spots.

We went there ourselves this summer for a multi-day tour with a private official guide. Fortunately for us we had two more sophisticated dosimeters, one of which could measure beta in addition to gamma radiation and the other even able to discern the different ions and in a few spots even detected neutron radiation. Lots of dangers actually you guys were not even able to measure. When a helicopter landed shortly after the incident next to the ferris wheel, lots of dust settled on the latter. I remember that the beta radiation there was like 400 times the average amount. Ingesting materials emitting beta radiation is an even worse idea. Still great video, brings back memories

I wonder how many people have actually been to the top of that Ferris wheel since the park never opened because of the accident. It was scheduled to open a few days after the accident, and I doubt anyone was on it while they tested it after construction so maybe the only people to be at the top of it had to climb it. Not to mention climbing onto the roof of it!

The radiation level at top of the wheel where you standed can exceed anywhere from 1000-5000 µSv/h, I do not think that was well planned thing to do without checking beforehand, as its already between 150-200 µSv/h on the ferris wheel on the bottom level, Thats why there is security, tourist guides know what to touch and what not to. the environment is different than the air, have to be careful with what you touch and what not especially keep away from tall and hardly reachable construction, as most likely they are holding multiple times the dose of radiation than things that were accessible and cleaned by the workers in 1986.
