  • Ben Hogan was one of the best ball strikers of all time. Look at the similarities between the Eureka move and the motion of a genius.

    Hi Steve
    Probably the best summary of what you have been videoing on about 'Eureka' yet. IMHO this is why I say this:
    1. You made the important point that a 'flatter swing plane' - your left arm at or below the shoulder plane is a key set position for consistent ball striking ( also helps keep right arm in correct position easier)
    2. You made the (very) important point about standing more upright at address so that on downwards transition you can lower into the ball - rather than reach at the ball ( which you do a lot in previous videos btw -:);
    3. You make the (very) important point that you must turn your upper body in the backswing to maintain connection between arms and body
    4. You make it clear how much left buttock clearance is achieved in a proper 'squatted turn' - this clears the hips and promote a very solid strike position - with longer clubs and driver ideally almost hitting with right hip and right arm - if this is done correctly and the correct inside to out path is maintained - you can smash the ball as hard as you like with no fear of the dreaded pull left or hook.
    I'd like you to move to explaining the correct subtle but important left arm rotation in the downwards transition - so that the Club head is not 'falling behind' as the hips and body turn - without the Club head ( more correctly Club heal) being rotated out into the inside to out path - the danger is that either players will slice - because the Club fall behind the body and hands have to play catch up (impossible) or just as bad, a bad hook or straight push right - if the Club head toe is thrown into the swing plane instead of the correct move which sees the heel of the Club lead into the inside to out plane in the downswing. *Note one of you viewers commented on the slice reaction to the Eureka move with driver....
    My take on your Eureka swing is it allows a golfer to better control and understand the dynamics involved in using momentum and acceleration of the Club head into the ball without strain on the body - because you are setting up ( like Hogan and most great ball strikers or 'hitters') a proper counterbalance regime or opposing forces to control the speed of the Club head.
    Thanks for taking the time to video your thoughts and explain them visually. It may be an idea to enlist a different type of 'body' to illustrate the same thing - maybe someone shorter and wider than yourself - :) - works just the same just wont look as elegant.
    atb Pete

    On every practice backswing in this 'Hogan' video, the shaft is below the shoulders, but during every actual full swing, Steve's shaft is clearly at the shoulders and parallel to them. The 'feel' is below the shoulders, but the 'real' is actually on the shoulder-line.

    One of the great things I love about EUREKA is, with the body pointing essentially 3 different ways, it restricts the top and nearly forces me to go on a consistent plane every time. This Consistency has greatly improved my ball striking, which carries over to the rest of my game. Thanks again Steve.

    Thanks Steve. I for one through all my years of playing golf always struggled with getting through the ball with a good turn. I took this concept to the range last night and concentrated on the setup and simple motion of taking the club inside with an open stance to create massive resistance and forgetting the hands and arms let my body come through to where it wants to go with the setup open and I just want to say wow. Pure strikes with every club in the bag including driver. Thanks

    Fascinating...I see things through the lens of an ex tennis professional/teacher. This tantamount to the "open" stance forehand. Years ago, from an old school perspective, this would have been thought of as "Fundamentally Incorrect". But the modern game of tennis accepts the open stance as the default setup position. Are you someone who is ahead of the curve? Time will tell. Great analysis...this will force the hips to rotate. At the very least an excellent training thought/exercise. Thanks for sharing...SteveO!

    I used to be a four handicap to a six if I didn't play much, but always hit it straight - not real far, but straight. Guys kept telling me it looked like I had an open stance and then I tried to square it more and then started with a pull hook that just killed me - until I started swinging more upright and began slicing! The three sticks look like how it used to FEEL. I'm going to use this hopefully tomorrow and see if I can get my old swing back. Of course it will be a much older versions since I was real good in my 20's to 50's and then laid off for ten or so years. We'll see - thanks for some great tips and drills!!

  • @thomasfraser9072
    @thomasfraser9072 Před 6 lety +5

    Ben Hogan by his book did not have his stance as opened as you do with your Eureka moment. I personally like a closed stance with shoulder pointing right or towards my target. I then temporary rotate my shoulder more right to my target as I place my club head behind the ball directly to my target. I then take my perceived Ben Hogan swing allowing my nose to swing as well. Your set up seems opposite of mine. Are we having two different Eureka moments? I feel with a closed stance and a square club to my target; I have closed my lead shoulder; just enough to ever prevent a mean spin out to the left of my target. I am doing an extremely modified version of Atomic golf's Channel Lock. In my opinion; what you are doing is 100 recent geometrically correct and what I now am doing is also 100 percent geometrically correct; only with variance in our triangular set up and aiming at our target. Would you agree?

  • @larrymasterspowerbuildingc4477

  • @alanduncan9204
    @alanduncan9204 Před 3 lety

    Just found this channel amongst hundreds of others.... Sam Sneed, Tommy Armour and Mr. Hogan less so, had their left foot forward of the right. They played the ball a few inches back from their left heel. Shoulders down the line. Right foot splayed 45 degrees to the right. This allows the body to turn and have their backs to the target at the top of the swing. Maintaining your swing path with your shoulder tilt you can then really smack in behind the ball...Plenty of old footage of these guys on CZcams to confirm this.

  • @whetedge
    @whetedge Před 6 lety +2

    This is the right direction for learning to swing a golf club imo. I don't agree with everything Steve is doing, but he has broken the barrier of thinking a full swing is "parallel at the top". Jimmy Ballard advocates "left arm down" (lead arm). You can put as much (more from my experience) power into the shot as anything else from that "abbreviated" position. Raising the arms up means you have to _do_ something to get them back down, thus all the "shallowing" and many various moves are taught to return the elbows back to the where they were relative to the rib cage at address. With the lead arm down, you go ahead and let her rip from the top. Much simpler, and far less room for error.

    Steve I thought Mr Hogan did promote aiming his feet (not shoulders) left with higher loft clubs by mid to long iron he was aiming parallel and with longer clubs his feet were aimed right. As I recall he felt a player needed to aim feet right with longer clubs to promote good backswing, but left with higher lofts and shorter swing so he could get out of the way/ clear hips better.

    Steve , trying to get backswing lower than shoulder plane, hitting it really solid and on line every club. However cannot get it up in the air. Thoughts?

    Steve you give that ball a great strike. Is the club square to the red stick?

    Is the club face open to the target line or square to the target line at address?
    I like this idea and I'm gonna try it once we can get on golf courses again

      That's interesting. Ok so far I have adopted the open stance and I have finally found the consistency of coming through. Picking the fall well. My misses have been hard left, but hit well. Or fades with not as much power. I then catch that my shoulders are way left. So to make the swing work, it's either alignment of the shoulders is wrong, or I must understand to swing inside to out. Which is the next step lol. More consistently I mean..

    You know you turned your body when your lead shoulder moves towards your trail foot and during the backswing you allow your nose to go from the downward 6'0'Clock position to the 5 'O'clock position. And then simply think of swinging against your nose for a perfect and balance Eureka Moment. What do you think? Am I right?
