I think what happened here is the Gold Kryptonite wedding band from the finale as it was never destroyed.
That he chose to give up his powers for a normal life he always wanted and allowed Conner to take the mantle of Superman. (This fits well in the story, giving it a logical conclusion.)

Such as the actor who played the Flash in the 1990 TV series playing Barry's dad in the modern show & the Jay Garrick Flash from another universe, or Dean Cain, who was Superman in the mid-90s show being Supergirl's Foster dad. CW (then WB/UPN) even as far back as Smallville, Clark's mom played Lana Lang in Superman III, among 20ish other similar examples. Not to mention Flask (Ezra) meeting Flash (Grant), also in Crisis.I think it's really kinda cool they did things like that.
