This is how Transformers 3 really would've ended. So as we all know Dark of the Moon ended with Optimus Prime dropping 2 top tier Cybertronians. His first victim was his former mentor turned enemy, Sentinal Prime. Seeing this, Megatron half-heartedly offers Optimus Prime a truce on the condition that he will remain in charge of the Decepticons, mockingly saying that they would be nothing without each other. Which may have been true and a more peaceful way to go about things. But Robo-Jesus was all out of peace. So it was off with Megatron's head. Literally. Funny thing is Megatron wasn't originally gonna be killed by Optimus or at all. He's sincere when he offers Optimus Prime a truce at the end. kneelinh down and stating that he is tired of fighting. Optimus is initially skeptical, but when Megatron offers to let Optimus kill him as an alternative, Optimus reluctantly accepts. This was featured in the novel but was changed because the studio didn't want the adaptations to share the same ending with the film. - Hry

Actually tf 4 and 5 could’ve been different and probably better too, megs and prime fight lock down,prime dies to lockdown but also killing him in the process and then megs learns who sent lockdown in tf4 and in tf5 prime comes back as nemesis prime and bee dies prime returns back to normal but megs dies to revive bee, then if tf7 was made unicorn brings megs back as galvatron, they kill unicorn, Galveston dies to finally end megs suffering or megs retakes over galvatron and bam it over

Arguably this one does a far worse job given how he died in the second movie and nearly every single decision he makes pushes his people towards extinction. Hell, this decision alone directly led to the next two movies happening and the deaths of nearly every Autobot under his command.

I like the Michael bay ending cause Sentinel Prime says to Optimus a little earlier, “You always struggled to make the tough decision.” and I want to believe that Optimus not hesitating to kill them both was his way of slapping him in the face for saying that.

These movies have gotten a lot darker. Instead of the hero sparing his enemy out of mercy, he kills him, making him no different than his nemesis.
That take on this is crazy... This world is already full of enough people not taking accountability for their actions. If you do something to somebody, expect retaliation... If you aren't appreciable to that type of message you're in la la land... Men should understand this, there's already a lot of women not dealing with accountability within their entire lives which is partially wrecking society aa i have known it...
In general, this is quite a logical decision on the part of Optimus. We don't know much about their backstory on Cybertron in the movies, but in other works Megatron has always wanted power. in the same "Prime" he was the mentor of Optimus and wanted to overthrow the top, openly opposing the council, because the top ranks were mired in corruption, which led to a lack of resources. Megatron proposed to stage a coup d'etat, but his ideas were not supported, as a result, the council elected Optimus (Orion) as a representative of the council. In the end, it all ended in a civil war, which was unleashed by Megatron. And after thousands of years - on Earth, he says that he will rule two worlds. Optimus also says that if Megatron revives Cybertron, the Decepticons will gain political superiority over the Autobots, which will eventually lead to genocide of the returning Autobots.

I honestly like both endings but won't lie in saying that the one from the novel would have definitely been the better way to end the trilogy. If Michael Bay did have it end there like it originally was supposed to.
i think another reason why studio did it also it makes it more open ended and allowed it to have fresh clean of the board without worrying about screenwriters that haven't watched be opened more loose with story for the or for the worst
If we got that ending then the next two movies wouldn't have happened or would have been similar to idw comics with autobots on earth and deceptions on Cybertron.

Megatron shouldn't have asked for a truce after all he did, he took a massive L that day
The truce was fake in this version of the movie, as in the legit ending where megatron did actually get a different ending, he had different longer sentences to prove he was real legit unlike the movie where he says "i wanna be back in charge" like what lmao

To be honest... Sentinel spared optimus twice even during the last fight he probably would leave optimus wounded and not kill him...but optimus didn't even hesitate to kill him when he had chance

And I liked this Bay-verse DOTM ending. After seen what Megatron and Decepticons did with Earth and fellow Autobots, Optimus said enough and gone full savage beast mode to finish them off his way.
Don't forget what Sentinel did to Ironhide.

Hearing Optimus say, "Time to find out" and watching his face places close took me completely by surprise.
"We were gods once" always sends chills down my spine
If Megatron wanted a truce he could've said some like this:
Megatron: "I want to have a truce now Optimus, all I want now is to go back home, back to our world. I see now that all this war has done has brought nothing but destruction to our species. I'll call off any remaining Decepticons on Earth and have them head back to Cybertron."
Optimus ofc would be skeptical of Megatron's words but if Megatron wants to sell it and wants to be truthful about it, he could give Optimus his gun as a sign of trust. What Optimus would do is up to him. But honestly that ending would've been good to close off the movies
Instead we got "We need a truce. All I want is to be back in charge. Besides, who would you be without me?" Which makes a few things clear:
1. Megatron isn't making the truce because the Decepticons were just decimated, he's only doing it to buy time for himself to come back to power.
2. The truce isn't going to last. "Who would you be without me?" confirms his and Optimus' conflict isn't going to end. This removes the possibility of a peace negotiation during the truce, which is the only bargaining chip Megatron would even have for the truce.
The ending of Dark of the Moon shows how Megatron was never the real villain, but only someone else's puppet, ironically a slave in short. I like to think that Carly's speech opened Megatron's eyes and made him realize he was never the boss. In my opinion for this reason he asked for a truce with Optimus, because he understood that he actually never had a say in the matter.
The ironic thing, though, is that both the novel's ending and the film's ending both make perfect sense. Although we do not know how the novel would have continued later, Age of Extinction is the direct sequel to the Dark of the Moon film, where Galvatron does not spare himself with Optimus after the events of Dark of the Moon.

I’ve read the dark of the moon book 3 times and parts of it hit way harder than the movie
It would’ve been way more of an ironic and fitting ending to the climax of the movie if Optimus spared Megatron for having some honor left and accepting the truce/ceasefire but deciding that Sentinel did worse for shattering a great trust and also killing one of Optimus remaining old friends after centuries to a millennia of Optimus believing that Sentinel Prime was a good mentor figure. Just one shot in the back like how Sentinel shot Iron Hide in the back.
Maybe Megatron wouldve returned in The Last Knight when he finds out about Quintessa and she couldve used him to fight for her. That mightve saved the show but then again tbey fucked up horribly by killing off all Transformers in Age of Extinction
That ending would have made far more sense for both of their characterizations. Instead Robo Jesus heard the fight announcer yell "Finish Him!" And he went straight for the fatality.
Damn. Not only would that be more in character for Optimus to not kill him, but you could still do a sequel where Megatron is tired of peace and once again wages war with the Autobots.

I honestly think that the novel ending sounds better than the movie ending we got of Optimus Prime murdering Megatron after he offered a truce. Optimus Prime doesn't necessarily have to trust Megatron, but he would at least consider the option of a truce over just killing Megatron, and Optimus Prime is willing to kill Megatron if there's no other way, as shown as far back as the original transformers cartoon movie. I honestly don't think that the Michael Bay Transformers films does right by Optimus Prime's character.
Nah Bay did Optimus more right than the G1 Cartoon, he isn't a massive raging idiot who blindly trusts that Megatron is genuine. Optimus was fighting Decepticons for 5 million years before the exodus in the G1 Cartoon and NEVER took a Decepticon life, which only resulted in the Decepticons killing basically everyone. You have any idea how many false truces and ceasefires Megatron likely tried to do in FIVE MILLION YEARS?
Especially after Megatron saved Optimus from being killed by Sentinel

At bare minimum, Megs is probably acting in good faith here for once given how he purposefully left Prime alive and chose to talk instead of kill. If his goal was to keep fighting, he would have just killed Prime while he was down.

it makes sense that prime would be a lot darker as he lived for millions of years witnessing his comrades dying, and after seeing how many humans died because of the deceptions, prime would be a lot darker and bloodthirsty like in the films in other continuities the deceptions hadn't killed a lot of human which gives us the prime we love
If we could have gotten that ending we could have gotten like a good or anti hero megatron that can join to fight something bigger....

What I read about. When you see the ending. There was an empty gap in the scene, and that scene was supposed to be Megatron standing. But someone ruined it and told everyone about the ending. So the writer changed the ending and has Megatron get killed.
It took Megatron a couple million years and 3 movies to realise fighting will get him nowhere.

Wish they WOULD have done that. In most or all the alternative series, there is always one tiny moment where they make it clear Megatron tires of an endless battle. And for most part, he doesn't revel in slaughter. He's a combat junkie for sure - loving a good fight - but he actually isn't a warmonger.

Sadly in bayverse their backstory’s are changed, or atleast Optimus’s is. Apparently in bayverse, he was never Orion pax and was always Optimus prime as one of the original knights (Michael bay has inconsistency’s so don’t blame me)

Honestly I prefer the chosen ending. Megatron wanted a truce but when he was attacking Sentinel he said "THIS IS MY PLANET" meaning he didn't reallt save Prime outta the goodness of his spark and just wanted to be back in charge of the Decepticons. After the events of the movie, it wouldn't have made sense to let any bad guy escape considering they just massacred a whole city and caused millions in damages to the city of Chicago.
As a sequel instead of humans making their own Transformers by using Tranformers remains, they should've had them just send the Cons remains into space where they drift upon Unicron and get rebuilt. Also I'd have Unicron have the Dark Spark, the opposite of the All Spark, that is built to destroy and have it give Megatron/Galvatron powers like the Dark Energon in the Cyberton games

The reason they changed the ending was because the Amazon leaked the final few pages of the ending that which spoils a few people.
Not only frustrated the studio by Michael Bay was really pissed off so they had to change the ending.

This is because of the last few pages being leaked in the comics before the movies release. So they had to rewrite the script.
They didn't have to rewrite the script. Bay just wanted it rewritten to keep it a surprise.
Rewriting the entire ending that late into production doesn't make sense. The script needs to be redone, the animation needs to be redone, and the actors have to come back to record the new lines. That would have taken like 5 months to do. It's not like editing the Mercedes logo off Soundwave for promotional material and commercials.

I got a question are you or are you not for Optimus killing megatron because i hear valid arguments that he's a decepticon and that the truce won't last, he killed jazz, he tried to enslave humanity etc. I'm a little mixed on both.
It honestly was unnecessary because the comic spoiled the ending no one would've cared besides manga/anime adaptations do it all the time.
When Megatron killed jazz, no love was left for Megatron. When one mercilessly kills the other, prepare for the same fate.

if i can remember the reason for the ending change is because by just previewing some of the pages in the comics before buying it already reveals some of the top informations meaning people didnt need to buy the comic and after MB heard the news about it he changed the ending
I think the problem with certain movies based off of comics/shows is when they kill off the villains and there's not many people left to fight and that's why a lot sequels fail
