- It's time for another look at a new game! Today I'm checking out Catch the Snitch, an upcoming magical sports game for two players from Knight Games. This is a pre-production copy I was lucky enough to check out early so bear in mind none of these are final components. Thanks to Knight for letting me get an early look!

So I think if neither Seeker had reached the Snitch when they run out of cards, the game should then continue (just like a real game of Quidditch). When a player scores a goal, they get to choose from one of the remaining 2 cards (which is then replaced) and then immediately actives it. It would add more suspense to the game after the Snitch had been revealed. Even if the Snitch was the last card to be flipped over, there still would be 2 remaining cards that could be claimed if the Seekers could not reach the Snitch.
Great Comment.
Though it seems Knight Models did learn some lessons from the last HP game release, they still apparently need to learn more. This is a mass-market style game with hobby prices. Very few casual fans will pay this price, and hobby gamers may find it lacking in game play. When you consider the paywall for named characters along with a high funding goal and short campaign.....I predict issues.
Couldn't have said it better myself. Check out the FB fan group for the HP minis game. You'll find rules in the files section for a fanmade Quidditch have that plays More like bloodbowl.
Absolutely. While HP fans are willing to spend $40 on a plastic wand at Disney, this game appeals to a very, very specific fan of HP.
The "casual game with hobby prices" description is perfect.
@@dreadknot69 be very interested in the link to that can't seem to spot it...
Really wish they release a new Quidditch game on consoles and pc.
Genuinely was pumped to see a video from you about a game I'm interested in backing, big fan of your reviews for new games. I like the look of the game a lot but the price is steep.
We used to play this game in prison...
All the Slytherin players carry shivs, of course.
Seems like you could reskin Guild Ball as a Quidditch game and use those minis.
Kool. Any chance of seeing Oathmark let's play this year? Just wanted to know your thoughts on it keep up the great work love your stuff
Great video! This game looks awesome!
Not gonna lie, this almost seems like a cool game. But when I first saw it, I was wondering why they didn't just call it "Quiddich". After seeing this video, I know why; it's only about ⅔ of a Quiddich game. Quiddich ends with a points victory, and while catching the Snitch earns your team a ton of points, it isn't necessarily a game-ender. I could see the second phase being added on in addition to the first phase, where you're making tactical choices to score points on the field with the bulk of your team and/or catch the Snitch, back-and-forth on both fronts like that one Star Wars Episode One game ("Queen's Gambit"? The one where all four parts of the Battle of Naboo are going on concurrently), bit seeing it break down to, Phase One is get a few cards, Phase Two is play a few cards is kind of... well... lame. 🤷♂️
Thanks for the great video! You did a fantastic job presenting the game!
I missed my opportunity to back this game, really wish I could get my hands on it.
Whew! All quidditch games rules I've ever seen/read always sound made up on the spot. Good run through and explanation.
Point of contention! Gryffindor should have won. Review the last card played, The leading player plays his card first correct? If so, Slytherin would have moved one space forward. Then, Gryffindor moves 3 spaces forward, and would still be behind for the second part of the card. They would then move an additional 5 spaces forward putting them 3 spaces ahead. Thus causing a Gryffindor victory.
Or did I get that wrong?
Rules Question: I can’t see in the rule book anywhere that explains what you do after you successfully score a goal to restart play.
You get the tempo, goal token and snitch card. But how does the game sequence continue? I don’t think it’s a keepers kickoff because that’s what happens when you fail to score and the keeper gains possession..
Any chance you could point me in the right direction please 😊
Have you backed the Darkest Dungeon Kickstarter at all?
Know you're doing the Heroquest one, but the DD one would be good as well.
Amazing how this still hasn't been launched. Last update on Kickstarter isn't even finished pre-production
Honestly done with Knight Models, but I am happy to see that they have some popular franchises to base their games in.
Hey Ash. can you tell how big the field are. width, and length?
We always catch them in the hood
Sad, game seems too expensive for what it is! Also seems too complex to be mainstream, a game I would play with my gaming group! And for my Miniatures Wargaming group, we would choose another game before this! Pass for me, however I do like the idea this exists...
Whaaa. The rules are insane. It's like you made them up on the fly to sound stupid.
I await some madman doing crossover rules for mashing up this game and Bloodbowl. "Ooh, young Potter's head has come clean off after that leaping tackle from Varag Ghoul-Chewer! Looks like he wasn't the Chosen One after all!"
@@richmcgee434 I was thinking of using guild ball rules for Quidditch. Might work better than using a board.
Honestly this one of the best published games for quidditch I have seen. It should be around $60-$70. Maybe their miniature production cost is too high?
Eight teams only allow 6 different match ups, not 16.
You mean four teams. But yeah, silly mistake that.
Anyone remember the Quidditch World Cup PS2 game? Fond days playing as the US Quidditch team...
i have it for the Gamecube, still play it now. Really sad they never made more
The project was cancelled the same day you uploaded. That's fantastic
oh yikes, they're asking for $120 for the base game. Doesn't add up imo.
Models dont look that great to justify that price, seriously how much is WB demanding in licensing fees????
Would you be willing to sell this game?
Wish they did the national league teams.
there is an expansion which adds national teams (player and team cards), but it's €25 for a deck of cards!
There's a game called golden snitch:snitch snatcher that's far simpler.
Just about to talk about what should be a fast paced game of zooming around on a broom is a card grabbing game and so went to the kickstarter page first - game is cancelled for the moment... "The current situation of uncertainty in the world derived from the electoral campaign in the United States, is negatively affecting our Kickstarter. It’s generating many technical problems on the web and freezing our communication strategy plan"..!!!!
Great name for a game. It *is* about violent convict gangs hunting down and brutally murdering stoolies and undercover agents in a dystopian prison, right?
Knight Models: meh
JK Rowling: meh
Ridiculous prices: meh
It looks alright, but I despise Harry Potter's franchise.
7th
And the game is just stupidly over-complex for the most stupid game in literary history.
Kinda glad the game seems lame, Wouldn't want too good a game wasted on the Terf's franchise.
Although I agree that JK is awful, maybe it's not a good look for you or your argument to be so oddly petty.
Not being able to separate an persons work from their beliefs and personal life is a very immature mindset. If you did that consistently across all media you would cut out some 99% of everything you currently enjoy
@@XYZdude00 JK Rowling does not keep her beliefs in her personal life though. She actively supports anti-trans groups in the UK and uses her very large media platform (through the UK tabloid press, twitter, etc.) to broadcast her viewpoints to the world at large.
@WinterXL While that's certainly accurate, I'm pretty sure Rowling didn't need her massive mounds of money to post awful things on social media. The most her celebrity and wealth has done is boost her signal some, and that's pretty much been a detriment for her rather than a boon. Not that I can imagine buying anything related to her work - I read those wretched books for free as part of a job, and regretted the waste of time involved, light as they were.
@WinterXL What are you even on about? If I like something I take part in it. You'll find that 99.9% of the population does not hold the exact same values as yourself, so using that as a determinate before you enjoy a product is an unattainable standard.
Oh, it was very difficult for me to watch this let's play video. So many montage cuts, most of them in the middle of a phrases and actions, wild camera movement, looking and reading rules through all video.
Author was so in a hurry, wants to make video so short, cuts most of his actions and words, that I didn't keep up with the game at all.
