      J K Rowling is the reason, that millions of kids learned to read. Millions of kids who would normally have played computer games or hung out on the streets at an early age in just about every country in the world.. She is worthy of every accolade the British Royals or government could ever bestow upon her. All Emma and Daniel ever did, was to act out whatever was in the script. They did a good job of course but they got paid millions for their acting roles. What has either of them done since the Potter series? Nothing of any consequence and that will continue for the rest of their lives. JK Rowling is still moving forward and I am so happy that Rowling has now stated that the HBO series will be better without Emma and Daniel. Watson and Radcliffe will forever be associated with the Harry Potter series, which is great that they cannot forget and nor will anyone else, that all they have is because of JK Rowling.

You don't get to just shut people out because you disagree about something that isn't how the world works, at the same time they have no issue raking in millions on a cult of image and working with all kinds of sexual predators in Hollywood, quaint. Also, I read that original comment she made and it wasn't hateful it just explains how she doesn't understand it, and honestly as a European neither do I. It seems to me Americans are mixing up personality and biology and it's creepy. Also, from my perspective, the fact you have to pretend to see them as the opposite sex even if you don't isn't really conducive to anything and is a kind of thought police ( I personally would always use someone's preferred gender, but being forced to do it is a different matter). She did not call for any violence or hate or anything, and I support their rights to neutral spaces, and to express themselves and live however they want to, I just don't understand it and don't see why people have to pretend to protect their feelings when I and most non-American women feel that people like Dylan Mulvaney are making a caricature of women (guess our feelings don't matter, get back in the kitchen). I also find it creepy how in the land of oversexualized everything so many girls don't feel like women and many of the public men who become women become the same sex doll. As a woman myself that's the part I find fascinating and overlooked.

As you noted, Hogwarts Legacy was a billion dollar success, despite the "boycott" lol. Turns out that a few hundred people on twitter isn't enough to sink the Harry Potter franchise. If they actually fullfill the promise of making it more book accurate, I can absolutely get behind that series. And while I know that basically everyone, including JK Rowling, disagrees with me on that one, I think Alan Rickman was the wrong choice for Snape, for multiple reasons, and I'm looking forward to see a portrail of Snape that doesn't downplay his vile and selfish actions in the books, and doesn't overemphasize his "redemption arc". I put the quotes here on purpose. Had I only watched the movies, I would see Snape as a hero and wouldn't be able to understand how people who know his final twist and sacrifice still dislike him. The pensieve moments were some of my faves in the books but they were for the most part omitted from the movie. I'm also hoping they fix Lavenders character. She didn't seem as silly & frivolous in the books. They made her way more comedic in the movies. Also in the bks both the Dumbledore & Ron characters are different than depicted in the movies. I am looking forward to this. But not looking forward to what seems like huge changes. The HP journey will definitely be a different one and less relatable amongst the original books (and readers). As someone who read and loved the books and watched the movies (and enjoyed them) but hoped for more details. This will be disappointing. HBO could ruin some childhood memories.😅

    I'd give it 10 more years before they do cursed child. I'd also wait another 30 or 40 to remake it. That way they could recast the main three in major supporting roles. It would be neat to see a 70 year old Radcliffe play Dumbledore.

    I just started watching other movies and even Miracle Workers to get the image of him being 'the boy who lived' out of my head to appreciate him as a diverse actor, like Johnny Depp. I think he's doing well, but I want him to keep doing good until he feels confident in coming back to HP for The Cursed Child without it getting to him.
    I am hyped for the recasting of the trio for younger versions of themselves in the TV series so that the books get all the little bits of information out. Who knows, there might be some even more information sprinkled in.

    The idea that the only reason to remake Harry Potter is to make money is INSANE. The choice to keep the font, music, sets and style is KEY - it's all essentially the trademark - the identification within the market - and it's nostalgic. It's almost as iconic as the characters and plot itself. The reason to remake Harry Potter has ALWAYS been (since Azkaban) that in stories this rich, long and complete - you CANT tell anything even close to the whole story in a film - not even in a two-parter. I can't wait and am very glad Rowling wouldn't let go - Hollywood and Disney have demonstrated over and over what they do and how wildly they deviate from original material if they have the freedom to. In a few decades they'll have the freedom to take all her ideas and play as fast and loose with them as their hearts desire - when her copyrights completely run out. Until then - well - thank whatever you believe in that the author is powerfully involved.

      Also, I loved the cast of the films - but they did really wait till they found actors they really saw in the parts - I don't imagine they'll be less careful now. I'm sure they'll get great actors and we'll get used to them. The WORST thing that can happen is they'll suck - and then people might now watch. On the other hand it might be great. At least we have a chance to see it made the way it should have been. AND families will have 10 years of show that they can sit down together to watch. I like that.

    • @lemonblue2387
      @lemonblue2387 Před 9 měsíci

      I like the idea of the other prequel and spin off stories - Rowling has told us that she knew much more than ever made it into the films - but I think just like with GOT the right move is first doing the books right (and thank god their already completed > . < ) the moving on to other parts of the world and the other stories she already knows and then filling in stories for other parts of the world she knows. I love the fact that merch might include more of the Hogwarts library books... maybe someday a comprehensive A History of Hogwarts *____* But first - it really needed to be properly telling the central stories that started our whole vision into that world. And nothing has to be "downplaying" the original films. Everyone knows film adaptations aren't faithful - the question is always whether they are faithful in spirit and whether things were changed for time, cost, or politics. That is what fans fight about. And everyone knows the single thing book fans were most upset about during the WHOLE of the film series ...was the thousands of times and ways the films departed from the BOOKS.

      The stupid complaint about fat people being set up as evil in Harry Potter is - well stupid. Who're the evilest people? Dursley's or Death Eaters? Even Umbridge isn't as Evil as Mr. Malfoy would have been if he'd been there. And forget about Voldemort. Meanwhile the skinny goodies Dumbledore, McGonegal, the heroic trio, . . . Mrs. Weasley, The FAT Friar, on the lower end at "pudgey" we've got Neville, ... I don't know who all else - I for one, didn't read the story that way. I read it as if I lived in the real world and knew that 1) I was reading about a specific part of a fictional larger world. 2) Though it was fiction, it seemed to operate similarly to the real world. Substitute science+technology for magic and you're not far off. And in the real world ... wait for it .... good and evil come in all shapes, sizes, guises and every other thing you can think of. ANYone can be good or evil, smart or criminally stupid. Reading the stories or seeing the films it doesn't seem like there's a statement about fatness either way. The only thing that tripped me up was reading it in the 2000s as I did - It caught my attention that they were being so blatant in their abuse. Rowling wrote what Harry thought - but he was 11 - 17, a boy, not exactly trained socially AT ALL, and had reason to think of his cousin and uncle in the vilest terms his immaturity saw. Also - it's never even implied that Harry/ Rowling thinks that the Dursley men are evil BECAUSE they're fat or proven evil BECAUSE they're fat - they are fat and they are MEAN and SELFISH and that is why they are evil. This one drives me a little nuts.

    Ms. Rowling may be a bit nearsighted and misguided in her opinions, but she did create an absolutely beautiful and immersive world that soooo many people love. I'm a 52 year old gay man and don't agree with her but some things are being overlooked here. As for "inclusion", she wrote in many people of all types and races from all over the world, not just England. She alluded to the fact that Dumbledore was gay, and the story itself revolves around a mindset that was very active in Germany in WWII with Hitler instead of Voldemort. It is a tale of love and compassion to triumph over evil. As for depicting overweight people as evil...Really???? They just happen to be written that way. Petunia was tall and skinny. Voldemort, Knox, and Bellatrix were also skinny. This one is just simply ridiculous. If she's not going to let go of her billion dollar baby, fine. Just do it like the books with as little deviation as possible. Don't make the fans of the books mad...Again.

    Who cares what the actors think, of course they do not want to be left out but that is not a very good reason to not do it, wanting to be "like Starwars" is a very good reason to not have the original director anyway close to the new project.
    The movies are well loved and a pretty ok adaptation, the series could be even better as long as the stick to the books and do not change anything to acomodate Movie nostalgia or a political agenda.

Yes, they could include stuff they excluded from the original movies, but they'd still be leaving a lot of important stuff out. There's just no way to include it all in a 2 (or even 2.5) hour movie. So I agree that even though new movies could be different, it would still be the same thing in that it would leave out so many important details.

  • @lambowolf

    I always felt the series would been better suited on TV with each season being the new book. There was so much depth to the series that the movies could never go into. I feel this is where Amazon went totally wrong with the "Rings of Power" series. I could easily understand if Daniel and Emma don't want to do because it is part of their lives that is done. However, if it is because they don't want to work with JKR because of her "Transphobe" beliefs is just ridiculous. First, JKR's views are not transphobic and if not for JKR, the duo wouldn't have the PRIVILEGE life that they currently have.
    Also, there are a lot of fans who really don't. Also, the political correctness crap isn't necessary. I guess we have to rewrite "Tom Sawyer".
