So nice when the interviewer ask questions and let the guest do all the speaking. I admire Mr. Nettles candor regarding his life, a true role model for children in the same situation. Enjoyed him in MSM, now after watching your interviews, I admire him even more. A devoted fan from America, Las Vegas, NV November 16, 2109
YOGI Since you are from the future, how the situation with coronavirus went through? I hope all is well as there are still people out there in 2109. Good to know!
Miss John Nettles very much as Tom Barnby. A real natural as an actor. I can't understand why he's not back as Tom, after all he'd only be in his 70s, and carries his age very well. A fine man off camera too.
I am another devoted fan from Mexico, formerly from America. I love the series and the men Tom Barnaby and John Nettles. Still watch all episodes; they are like friends walking with me through everyday life. Love British tv :o)
John's South-West England accent was more apparent when he played Sergeant Jim Bergerac. His father in-law, Charlie Hungerford, was a dangerous man to know. Charlie was connected to, or was implicated in some other way, with the people involved in the vast majority of crimes Jim investigated. Bergerac's cast list during the 80s is a who's who of actors that went on to greatness. Michael Gambon, Ray Winstone, Louise Lombard and Greta Scaachi to name but a few. Superb.
You are SO RIGHT! I'm literally tearing up right now! What a beautiful person John Nettles is! I love Midsomer Murders so much and probably watch them for him alone......! It's Nettles' beautiful soul shining through Barnaby that makes Barnaby so entirely lovable, isn't it? I adore this man!!
I am so impressed by him ,it´s so lovely to watch and listen to him, he´s got the nicest voice to listen to 💋💖💗❤ He´s a real heartthrob ❤🔥even today he is, it´s hard to believe he´s 80 now he sure don´t look 80💕💞💓 Love him dearly💕💞💋
Talking about accents I was born in Chorley Lancashire and lived there until I was ten when we moved to North Wales. As an adult I lived in many places, including for a time in the US. Back in Lancashire at the age of 33 a fellow Lancastrian was able to pin down my origins to within 5 miles which I thought was pretty good. That was 35 years ago and I suspect that anyone with the 'ear' could still come pretty close even though I haven't lived in England since 1988. These things stay with you unless you are an actor, I guess, haha!
I can't believe that Mr Nettles has accumulated only $700,000 dollars net worth. Is this some sort of mistake. An actor of his caliber should be worth many millions. Look at what actors make per episode in sitcoms, some make close to or in excess of a million per episode. I'm currently on season 11 of Midsommers Murders on Netflix. Let's just hope John earns some residuals!
John Nettles could command $700,000 per series of the TV shows he appeared in. His quoted wealth is 10 million dollars. I met him and his partner whilst on vacation in the Seychelles in the mid-1980's. I took him on a scuba dive, even though his leg was in a cast having broken it on location on the island of Jersey and even though he'd only had a brief introduction to diving! Great chap, who bought myself and three Swiss ladies a bottle of champagne when the local police on the island of La Digue grew concerned for his safety after he & his girlfriend had swam from our beach out to sea for several hundred metres to swim to the next bay, leaving their bikes behind! The cops asked me to accompany them back to the beach because they were so concerned, "Strong currents, big fish" (sharks?), for their safety. So that night at the hotel he bought us the champagne to thank us for our concern!.
I very much often enjoy interviews by actors and singers outside of their own country...there seems to be some kind of new freedom of speech and genuine interest (and openness) that is sometimes lacking with the national ones.
I have a feeling it's language. I spent some time in the UK and was impressed by their use of language. Maybe they have a better education system there where a higher premium is placed on effective communication.
Nettles has the perfect upper class accent which we in India are used to and can understand. But kevin Whately another of my favourite actors speaks with Geordie accent which I struggle to understand. My granddaughters speak with a Brummie accent which I just can't grasp specially when they speak fast
Nettles is absolutely wrong about the series as being a comedy. There are some rare comedy moments but the aftermath of the murders create very tragic circumstances for the villagers during and after the murders.
@Margaret Gust I haven't watched them twice as I don't have that kind of time but I thoroughly enjoyed them. I'd get up at 7:00 am, eat breakfast and watch Netflix which has 17 seasons available to watch. I think part of the appeal of the show in addition to it's comedic aspect was the English countryside which was part of each scene. As for Peter Dungeon, at first I also thought him smug but I think that's just the way the writers wanted to portray him. His partners would make faces behind it back. After awhile though I didn't notice it so much. You should maybe give those episodes a look. I noticed also they started showing some nudity and the women seemed to be a little 'hotter' if that's the correct term. Definitely trying to widen their appeal of the show to a younger crowd. I haven't taken a look at any of the shows past season 17. Guess the newer ones are on Amazon but you have to pay extra ... so.... PS: I am American. I am from Michigan.
What a lovely human being John Neetles is!

I love John Nettles! One of the best actors in the world!

Not sure where that figure has come from - John Nettles reportedly has a net worth of many millions from both his tv work and writing.
Where did you get that, from google? How would they know anything about his finances?

It is about the quality of an actor, not the money he gets!

"Class is a man made concept designed to subordinate others".
This is interesting to hear the way John Nettles talks about his past. You would never know.
What an honest, lovely man!!!!

English humor perhaps. Great show!

Definitely comedic. Yes, there's a lot of drama and tragedy, but it's using a comedic look at it.
Women can chose not to have sex.
Men can zip it or use protection....why is it called 'protection' fella ? Are. men too stupid to manage or too juvenile to practice self restraint?
