How you ever heard of utilizing a rip, yes a rip on offensive, to help finish the reach as apposed to a play side press. It sounds strange but my coach use to teach a rip and it would phenomenally well. Guard goes to reach a 5, he get there and instead of trying to hook block or right arm press him he just rips and runs. And he ends up getting his hat around the play side of the defender. It’s actually kind of genius. A rip, on offensive.

We have taught that for decades on all reach blocks. Actually called it Rip and Run.

We emphasize using the shoulder to elbow into the chest of defensive player while using rip & run.
